Southwest Spring 2024 Photography Trip Part 2
Part 2 of a 10 day trip around the Southwest exploring and photographing some of my favorite places as well as some new locations. Hanksville, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Bears Ears National Monument.
I’ve started a new thing. I’m trying to document some of my photography travels but don't always want to carry a second body and lenses so I picked up an Insta360 X4. Quality definitely won’t be great at first while I figure everything out and learn best methods for what I want. Hopefully something is gleamed out of the video on my photographic process and traveling.
Don’t worry, I’ll be getting wind mic muffs and eventually DJI lapel mics. There’s currently no stock online for the premium lens guards so I hope to buy those soon to help with video quality; as I get comfortable maybe I’ll not use the guards sometimes. Since a lot of this trip was in a sandy, dusty, rocky environment with the chance for scratching I decided it wasn’t worth the risk until I’m more used to using the camera.

Winter on Wilson Peak 4K
มุมมอง 3710 หลายเดือนก่อน
A visual ode to one of the most stunning and iconic peaks in the San Juan Mountains with the incredibly powerful music of @calebarredondo5204; a piece that expresses the emotions I feel looking at this summit better than I could ever put to word. If every mountain had a song, this would be Wilson’s. #telluridecolorado #telluride #wilsonpeak #coloradowinter #SanJuanMountains #colorado
Telluride - A Winter in Timelapse
มุมมอง 136ปีที่แล้ว
If I could rewind a winter’s season in Telluride each year I would. I’d pull each day’s memories back through the sieve of time not to relive but experience anew. That longing is something I feel for all the places, people, and times I cherish the most and here in the San Juan Mountains is the landscape where it runs the strongest. These last two winters I’ve spent working outside and on my ski...
Aurora over Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
มุมมอง 353ปีที่แล้ว
An extremely rare sighting last night (4/23/2023) of aurora in Southern Colorado at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park! This was the first recorded severe geomagnetic storm (G4, KP 8) since September 2017 allowing the Northern Lights to be seen overhead throughout the northern U.S. and faint glow as far south as New Mexico. I was lucky enough to see and photograph the Northern Lights on...
The Mountains Make Their Weather - 4K
มุมมอง 803 ปีที่แล้ว
A nature inspired ASMR short film that reveals the visuals and sounds of some of my favorite recent experiences in the mountains. Most of the sounds were naturally recorded while filming, others are recreations of the sounds I experienced while there. (Example: A pack of wolves really did howl at Tipsoo Lake while I was filming sunrise but my audio levels were too low to capture it since I didn...
Vivid Alaska 4K
มุมมอง 2693 ปีที่แล้ว
A vivid film of Alaska's wilds in winter, fall, and summer. A place that exudes the true nature of wilderness through unending forests, enormous glaciers, towering falls, verdant fjords, and aurora filled nights.
May 2021 TX OK KS Storm Chase
มุมมอง 423 ปีที่แล้ว
Last weekend I spent a couple days chasing storms across the Great Plains of Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. It was a very different and unique experience compared to my solo wanderings in the mountains. Nature photographers love to boast about "chasing the light" but I don't think any type of photography is closer to that saying! The video is a mix of timelapse and real-time clips with a 4x slow-...
Summer, Fall, and Winter in Crested Butte

An aerial composite of seasons in Crested Butte, Colorado. Unplanned shot created from similar clips filmed over a couple years. Shot with a Phantom 4 Pro.
My 2020
มุมมอง 804 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the time of year myself and other photographers share our favorite photos from the past year. 2020 was obviously a very challenging time and despite struggles of my own I was vastly more fortunate than many. As I started to think on what were my favorite photographs I decided this time to share a film that conveys some of the incredible experiences and views I had. There's so much more ...

Phenomenal Noumenal Wonderful
มุมมอง 3015 ปีที่แล้ว
The Phenomenal Noumenal Wonderful Pacific Northwest. I've been fortunate to spend many years wandering and photographing this incredibly diverse and dynamic landscape. Unfortunately, some of these beautiful places no longer exist as seen due to human impact, overuse, and destruction. Much of that impact is the result of the surging photographic and outdoor community. Please join me in pledging ...

Great video. What are you using to film yourself?
Thank you, an Insta360 x4.
Hermosa naturaleza, cuan grande es nuestro creador, todo lo que el hace resplandece
Saludos desde El Salvador muy bonito ese video quedo perfecto.
CO is hauntingly beautiful. I remember driving there the first time. When I passed leaving New MX sign and came to the Welcome CO sign, I looked over to my left and the montains, the view right there in front of me out my car window, I had to momentarily pull over because tears were pouring down my face.
Stunningly Beautiful.
رائع جدا
Since moving to Colorado, I feel like I am part of something lager than my my work week. Mountains can hurt but they can heal as well.
Very true
Wooooooooooow
Least Likes !! Dont Worry This is the year blessed for Great. Recommended to all ..!! #youtube #Earth #night #stars
Loving ur channel.. incredible videos . Many more views to come.. sharing with my friends. Keep it up.
Awesome, thank you!
Irrefutable evidence that the earth is flat. Thanks for the upload!
Ehhh?
Just cant stop watching it....so soothing...
Perfect timelapse! Awesome detailing!
Thank you!
Firstly, I want to appreciate u for your efforts in making this video. This video turned out mind blowing. But I have one kind suggestion for u, why aren't the stars stationary? If u could move the setup exactly in the opposite direction as how the earth rotates, the stars would look stationary, leaving the earth alone to rotate.... It would give u another perspective.
Unfortunately this timelapse wasn't photographed with this effect in mind. I would have needed to record with different settings to match my exposure to the rotation of the earth for my selected frame-rate, or use a star tracker to track the shot. I agree it would look better that way though!
@@JasonintheWilderness Thank you for your reply! I wish to capture similar timelapses as yours, in the near future. They are just awesome!!!
Amazing look at Capitol Peak at 2:37. Great video!
Thanks!
1. What is the best time to visit Colorado to view this fall color? 2. I believe the shot at 00:29 is on Last Dollar Road, Telluride. Is it okay if I just drive a sedan or SUV there (I don't have a 4-wheeler)?
Colorado fall colors vary a lot depending on the elevation and yearly weather but mid-September through mid-October is the best time. That overlook is accessible with a 2WD vehicle as long as it hasn't rained or snowed heavily, beyond the overlook is 4WD high-clearance.
Flat earth😂
Full Earth rotation and still night
Wow! Gorgeous cinematography! I just got my drone and hope my videos will look this good eventually.
Thank you! Hopefully your efforts are going well!
@@JasonintheWilderness they don’t quite compare, but they are getting there. Feel free to check out my last few videos if you have some spare time!
I took my bucket list trip to Colorado last year with my wife for the first time in peak Fall season. I visited Aspen, Vail, and Telluride..which was my favorite. This gives everyone a perfect vision of what Colorado is in Fall.. perfection. What you captured here along with the music score is simply beautiful!! My advice to anyone who has been wanting to go to Colorado is to plan the trip as soon as possible..life changing!!
Thank you! I'm definitely fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. Glad you got to visit it!
Very nice! please keep up the good work!
thank you!
just breathtaking!
can't believe this video is only viewed 100+times. should deserve way more better!
Thanks! It has a few more views on Vimeo, where the quality looks a lot better too. vimeo.com/298263472
This is the best video of colorado I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing. Amazing! Could you let me know what camera and lens do you use for these? Thanks!
Thank you! This was shot with a variety of Sony cameras and lenses including the a900, a7R, NEX-7, and a7RII. Right now I'm on an a7RIII with Sony FE 16-35 f/2.8, 24-105 f/4, and FE 100-400.
Majestic!! No idea why this doesn't come up in 4k video search results.
Hmm, maybe I have to add a tag?
Wow! Stunning work here. What a beautiful state we live in!
Thank you! It truly is.
Great edit and choice of music! And how you wrote the caption as a disclaimer is funny.
Thank you!
Very nicely done!
Thank you!
Another great film in a string of great films you have done, nice work.
Thank you, David, I really appreciate it!
Nice video, Jason. Kudos!
Thank you Rob!
Whose is this music?
Hey man I somehow found this on TH-cam and I live in Springs.. You killed it. I shared a link to this video on about twenty Facebook groups in Colorado Springs. So hopefully you can get some subs and make more! Insane dude good job. It would be cool to see some of Breckinridge, Pikes peak, Cheyanne Mountain (zoo, city, norad) Aspen would also be a cool spot and Pueblo Revisor come to mind. Hope you can keep making these!
Thank you, I really appreciate the shares too!
Why don't you have a million subscribers...wtf!? Aweeeeesome video bro
Thank you!
1Mio dollars, and I can live there ...
you and me both...
Great video! Check out my new timelapse video here - th-cam.com/video/B9oD52Hk3bs/w-d-xo.html
Love your technique of keeping the apparent speed of the drone constant across all the clips. I'm going to try and remember to do that. FYI, for some reason loading of the video stalls just after the power house is revealed above Bridal Veil Falls - this happened several times. If I skipped ahead the rest of the clip plays just fine.
a7wd Thanks 👊. I didn't have any loading issues on an iPhone over LTE but I've had that issue a couple times with other user's videos on a laptop.
I tried again on a different computer and had no issues. Love your Colorado videos as they show some of my very favorite places - it's fun trying to recognize various spots I've visited. I didn't recognize the ridge at 2:50. Looked like a couple dispersed campsites with fabulous views. @@JasonintheWilderness
very well done time lapses. Beautiful video
Thank you!
Breathtaking! So blessed to have been born n bred in this amazing state!
It's a wonderful place to call home!
It deserves more views!
Thanks! It has over 40k on Vimeo (better quality too).
Great :) I'm heading to Colorado in three weeks. Any good spots to recommend ?
Nothing beyond the usual: Maroon Bells, Crystal Mill, Crested Butte, Telluride. Check out TheOutbound.com for some options within those areas.
Thanks!
Seriously!
The best vids of nature at its best I have ever seen on TH-cam. Great job.
Thank you!
Would love to see some commentary in the description regarding what some of those places are named. Like 1:45 for example.
Oops. I mean 1:40. And 1:50.
1:40 is the Castles near Ohio Pass, 1:50 isn't a location I share publicly.
Wow this is amazing! What camera and gear did you use to get those killer timelapses? Super jealous
Thanks! Sony a7RII, Sony FE Lenses, and Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens.
Very nice
