SPOILER BELOW!!! He should definitely use that line. The whole movie should be about his naked totalitarianism and his downfall. Maybe reflecting on that once he loses his eyes and pushing himself towards the inevitable blind death-walk into the desert. Also Chani was written differently so the whole story can be different with her as the real protagonist. They don't need to keep the tiny part when he looks at his naked sister while she was training. It's more about the ghola anyway. People should be challenged to wrestle with white savior hero worship stories. My humble opinion. Also they will probably need to adopt Children into a mini series or something.

Was Paul really Praising Hitler? Paul didn’t have much control at that point even if he died the Fremen would have martyred him and still killed in his name.

I wouldnt call his convo abt h*tler a "loving" conversation, it was more admiratiory and factual, kind of him showing stilgar the similarities

Sorry, but I think you got the text passage wrong. Paul knows, that his Jihad needs to end. But the only way to achieve this is the golden path. And Paul fears this. In this passage you mentioned, Stilgar talks about the holy war as something effective. And Paul gives him some filmbooks from the Atreides-library, to show him, that Stilgars messianic love for Paul is wrong. He wants him to understand, that the holy war is something bad and that being the Lissan Al-Gaib isn't good. That it will lead to human suffering and extinction. That's the whole point here. Paul isn't in love with Hitlers ideas, he fears them because he outdone them by a billion. He is sarcastic to Stilgar, because of the religious fundamentalism of the fremen fedaykin. At this point of the story, Paul just wants to die. But he can't. Because if he dies, his holy war will go on and he will become a mertyr. If he lives, the Jihad will also go on forever. Paul needs to find the way, to end all of this. And here he tries to show Stilgar exactly that. This will be important later, when Alya becomes a demon. Paul saw this coming. But in his fear, to sacrifice himself on the golden path, he forced his son Leto to do this. To become the Shai Hulud.

I agree. I think ppl forget that the series has some zany vibes and maybe it's because the new movies make Paul's character into a martir (granted he kinda is) but forget that the story is a study of the generational consequences that the decisions made by ppl in power have over society. Paul is a victim in that he caries the weight of centuries of manipulation but he has power and influence beyond belief so it's complicated. I feel like the campy elements of the second book might disturb some ppl but 4 sure Deni is the right director for that challenge. I just feel like in order to make it he phenomenon that the last two movies became, he might have to dilute some of the messages and ppl again will take Paul's side instead of realizing he's becoming a religious dictator (even tho the guilt kinda eats him from the inside).

GRRM stopped writing after becoming rich and famous. It just seems he's really let that make him lazy. He will always be remembered as a great author even if his books are finished posthumously. So he doesn’t care anymore. He's old, he's fat, and he has no energy because he doesnt even exercise. Meanwhile, mangaka in Japan will still write and draw 12 hours a day despite severe health problems... even after they're already rich and famous! Fuck our culture. Its so gross nowadays. Places like Japan have values they hold dear. Here, we don’t even speak of virtues or values WITH OUR CHILDREN and then wonder why they end up so confused and depressed. We don’t teach our kids about duty, honor, self-respect, courage, industriousness, honesty, rationality, temperance, charity, etc.

He will die before he finishes ASoIaF. We have to accept that and pray whoever he leaves the series with will have both talent and plenty of energy. GRRM is obese and a shitty diet and no exercise causes severe brain fog. Dave Asprey had the same problem when he was out of shape. I also have noticed brain fog and a lack of cognitive energy when out of shape. "Fat and lazy" go hand in hand for many reasons.

He needs help but he's to arrogant, I think, to allow anybody else to touch his baby. Understandable, but come one... I mean, he likes to write the same chapter 3 times before ironing out the details and being happy with the 4th draft. So he could hire a bunch or ghost writers and have them write a chapter several times, with his supervision and ideas and then he can write the definitive version after reading what works and what doesn't. That would significantly speed up the process and give him more time to focus on whatever other projects he wants.

Did you really read Messiah and think Paul was speaking of Hitler "lovingly?" That misses his point entirely. He was condemning himself. This is the duality of Paul. One one hand doing what prescience tells him is necessary but on the other hating himself for doing it.

First Dune was pretty inspiring actually. Paul knows that the myths are pure fabrication. But still he falls in love with the Fremen, their pure faith, ingenuity in tough environment, honor and strength. He sees their world uncorrupted by petty opportunism like the world he came from. So quite heroically he decide to embrace the myth and lead the Fremen out of their mystery. Herbert basically hated how inspiring his own story was.

Honestly as much as I really loved Timothy C as Paul in 1 & 2.... unless this movie doesn't get made for another 7 or 8 years, they really just need a new order actor to play him. He's older in the books too anyway so it really wouldn't make it really any real difference to just use an older actor. I do think that in today's culture, they could do a dark story about a hero figure really being the true villian without people not being able to take it. If that was the case this book never would have gotten released. From most studios I'd say yeah they probably would never agree to make the "hero" of the story as bad or worse than Hitler. But Denis Villanuve mixed with the absurd amount of money part 1 & 2 made they will basically just let him do what he wants to do. But hopefully they get an older actor like 35 to 40 ish.

I’m excited to read (and eventually, see!) Messiah; based on my interpretation of the wiki pages, my conception of Paul’s story is that he is less villain and more tragic figure trapped by his prescience, enduring a years long “gom jabbar” to see is he is human. His prescience grows more accurate until it is so precise he can see all potentialities - he is the kwisatz haterach - but the KH being the fullest, perfectest human (in the bene gesseret philosophy) is actually somehow subhuman because he lacks true free will. This is finally amplified by his physical blindness, because he becomes completely dependent on the visions for everyday activities - he can still “see,” but at what cost. So him losing his prescience and wandering into the desert is him passing the gom jabbar, surrendering his power in order to reclaim his will and humanity. Later, his son becomes an eternal Worm-God tyrant for 3,000 years to take up the mantle of “inhuman” willingly, in order that the human species as a whole may reclaim their freedom from prescience. Paul gave up his power to become human, Leto II surrendered his humanity to give power to humans. But again, that’s just my take after reading Wikipedia pages. Probably once I actually read Messiah, Children, etc. themselves my perspective will change.

The good question to answer would be - "Would you ever start reading the series if you knew it would never finish". I usually don't watch series until they are finished. There are exceptions, Better call Saul was one (that one panned great). The other was Game of Thrones, that one not so much.

He should just let chatGPT write it at this point. I'm so glad I never got invested in the books. Being as invested as I was in the show was already a waste of years of my life. I'd be super-pissed if I had sunk even MORE time into the book series knowing we will never get a real ending to the story, which for show watchers would be for the SECOND time. If GRRM was serious about finishing ASOIAF he'd have quit going off on tangents doing minor projects (and even finishing *whole other books* - ahem Fire & Blood) to get the last two books out years ago. I'm done with this story.

The only thing I am listening in this video is, the leftoids are not going to like Dune Messiah every time you say "the modern audiences". There are no "modern audiences" it's an euphemism to describe a very specific group of the population which doesn't represent the totality of the audience and as time goes they are becoming more puritans censoring what can be talked and what not. I find Herbert's approach to depict Tyranny and Fanatism awesome a very mature approach and realistically dark. That's part of life and the incapacity of the "modern audience" autistic group to process the harshness of life doesn't meant to deprive those interested in see this story adapted. I say bring back cinema for adults and mature people thirst for something intellectually and philosophically engaging.

My point isn’t that I don’t want to see Messiah adapted. I said multiple times that I really liked the book and even that I think Villeneuve will do a good job adapting it. The problem is that general audiences and Hollywood studios might have an issue with the lack of action and surface level drama that the source material presents. You sure it’s not your comment that is empty?

I think, the biggest challenge will be the changes set in motion by the previous films. Stilgar became so goofy, it’s difficult to see how they will make us take him seriously again. Chani has become a much more high-profile message-broadcasted, so it’s hard to fit her with the book. On top of that, DV has zero faith in his audience and doesn’t like/suck at extensive dialogue. I have a hard time seeing how the convoluted dialogue-heavy conspiracy can survive this, and likewise with the Ghola
