Nice work as usual warren
@paultwood5170 thanks appreciate your comment and view.
Thank you for another great video! Could I ask your name btw? I was wondering about that (Marshall?) spring unit in that cushion at the beginning of your video. Did you and your client decide to replace the unit with foam due to cost/labor? Or was it for a firmer cushion? Do you prefer those spring units over foam? Thank you for your time and another FANTASTIC video! 🐕🦺 🐾 ~ Heather from cold Chicago 🖤
@TheUpholsteryLibrary Hello, my name is warren. And yours? I am not a fan off using mattress pocket springs in seat cushions . They are inferior replacement for the old coil spring units used many years ago in my opinion. So I don't use them. Keep watching.
@@HammondsupholsteryI’m Heather, Warren 🖤 thanks for your response! I look forward to your next video!
I've just found your channel and subscribed... my mum and dad had a suite similar to the egg chair in the 1970s, one chair swivelled too!!! The fabric was fab!!!
@lindakennedy1193 thanks for the comment and subscribe. It was a fantastic chair and I am glad I convinced the customer not to recover it.
Hello from South Carolina, USA. I’ve recently found your channel. As an amateur re upholstery hobbyist I find your videos very helpful.
@robcombs7505 Thanks for your comment. Hopefully, you can pick up some tips and enjoy your upholstery journey.
This kind of furniture cheaper to recover/repair or replace?
@zippy979 Good question it's not always about cheaper. Sometimes, it's about getting what you want, whether that's styles or choice of materials/ leather, etc.
It would be Great to see owner reaction!
The chair is lovely, and your incredible attention to detail has increased its value. As a reader, I can see the owner sitting for long periods of time comfortably...
I like the head roll!
@Sweetwater24 Thanks for your comments. The owner was pleased, and that's what I am to do for all my customers.
You are amazing! I've wondered how it works and this was great!
I think for someone who is interested in learning the ins and outs of upholstery this would be a good place to go. For people who are just curious on how upholstery is done it might be a bit too detailed.
Great job Mate,.have a nice day !!! 😀👍.
This was quite informative and interesting. I learned some techniques although I probably won’t use them.
@lilashelton535 I'm very happy you're enjoying the content.
Enjoyed this
@joshcullum88 Thanks for comment, very glad you're enjoying my content.
Interesting video and timely for me, as I have to redo the webbing on my settee and chairs. Again! The first time I noticed the cuts in the foam and yes, mine doesn't have canvas on it. So it's a shame you didn't show how you fitted the canvas. I would be concerned that if the canvas was stapled to the frame the edges would tear as it doesn't stretch. Also what level of tension should be applied to the webbing before stapling it?
@chrisnagy thanks for viewing and the comment. You pull the elastic webbing as tight as you can. but insure you have elastic webbing for seat not back.and don't skimp on it. Webbing comes in different stretch %. As for the canvas, if used over the correct webbing or springs. Wear too canvas should be minimal. But nothing lasts forever
Hi, what % webbing is used? 45? And is the cavas stapled to the frame too?
@trekcer for a seat ide use 10% stretch. And yes the canvas needs to be stapled too the frame.
Hi there great work I have a question. When you are pushing the needle through the fabric does it go through 1 layer of fabric or do you go through 3 pieces to hold the shape hope that makes sense ?
Hi, yes get what your asking, no it's just one piece it's not going through the pleats. Hope that helps.
Hello 🙋♂️. Hope you are good !! Fascinating watching you do this little stool, and reviving it in order to it another life !! Question: I would imagine that as you pull - off the years of old fabric and, the decades of decomposed, decayed foam - that must be fairly disintegrated with use - with regard the life it’s had over the years, are - you not concerned about the dust, bacteria and fungi from the small foam particles you are inhaling each day from the waste ?? I thought you would be wearing some type of 😷mask to ensure that the dust particles does not infect your lungs 🫁 as - when you get older and retire you will want to enjoy your retirement without constantly coughing up years and years of dust particles…. What the most amazing thing you have ever found in an old seat 💺 that when you pulled it apart for upholstery ?? Thanks 🙏 Take care and stay safe. James ✌️.
@James.979 From time to time, I will wear a dust mask if furniture that bad. I've never found anything that exciting apart from Lego, food, odd bit loose change. Remote controls. And occasionally, jewellery that all gets returned to the customer.
Alright bud I’m an upholsterer also, nice work it’s a dying trade nowadays with all the crap coming in from abroad 👍
Hmm nobody left comments, I guess I’m the first to leave a comment… while I watch what you work on, it’s awesome! Just letting you know that there’s crack behind you while you lift your arm to staple on other side of the chair! 😂 😉
Since I left a message, you deserve my subscribe!😉
@TexDeafy very true 🤣
Nice job, its great to see how others go about their work. As a typical canny Scot and from one upholsterer to another at 34.02 I would have been tempted to unroll the fabric to see if the 6" could be cut from the other end without wastage. In truth I often use both ends of a roll if it is a relatively short length. Keep up the great work 🙂👍
@rmackenzie hi, thanks for commenting, and yes, I quite often check the other end off the fabric roll if the pattern allows.
Just stumbled across your channel and really enjoying your videos. Its so frustrating to see what this 'upholsterer' tried to get away with. The sad thing is that some customers dont realise and the upholsterer gets away with it. All the best 👍
@rmackenzie thank you for your comment. It is shocking at times, and unfortunately lot of time it comes down to cost, not quilty. But in this case the customer had paid good money and just got a bad job.
@@Hammondsupholstery I am like you, I try to be kind about others work but there are not really any excuses on this chair other than the person took on a job they clearly couldnt do. In addition that fabric is from PT's Glencoe range and as you will know it is one of the thicker fabrics you will work with....even more so if they bothered to get it treated to comply with the FR regulations.
Not as fare as I know, ha ha
Are you Michael Caine’s nephew? Haha
Thanks 👍🏻
The chair is beautiful. You do great work .
Thank you so much!
Great video..Awesome Hoodie! 🤭
😮 totally shocked. I feel very sad for the owner. What a shame. I hope the owner phoned the person who gave them the recommendation to let him/ her know that were not pleased. This was very difficult for you and I am very glad it was at least possible to give the owner a better base to sit on with the fabric you had to work with. Great job!
It was a shocking workmanship. I was able to make the chair at least usable for the customer.i appreciate your comments, and thanks for your feedback.
@@Hammondsupholstery I am studying upholstery right now. At school I haven’t even ever seen such shoddy workmanship 😟
@@stien9330it was very poor work for someone claiming to be a professional and charging according. Such poor workmanship is the reason the public undervalue skilled craftsmanship.
@@Hammondsupholstery that is why it is good you posted this so that people can see the difference!
Thank you for showing this on a stripe and how you do your tension. Lovely work!
Thanks for your comments,I am glad I was able to give little insight to how I work with strip/pattern fabric.
Nice job👏🏻...how would u rate the self pressurized spray glue system?????and do u need to shake before each us???? Which is a deterrent to me from acquiring one....
@charlescampbell1319 Hi, I started using them a long time ago on contract jobs where i was glueing large areas. There no need to shake them. I sometimes have to clean the nozzle if left for a long period.
Love the chair but who chose the fabric lol good job I love reupholstered chairs and sofas
Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. It's little different but I think all the better for it. Keep watching for I hope some more exciting fabrics.
@@Hammondsupholstery wonderful ,I love watching these videos ,I wasnt trying be unkind . Just not my cup of tea but that’s a fantastic rocker for sure xo hugs from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
I have never seen that tool. That’s so cool. I love that fabric and I love your videos. They are quite special because you really show a day in the life of a master upholsterer. Seriously…you are awesome 💚
Thank you so much! I am glad your enjoying them.
Glad your enjoying them, there will be new one end off next week.
Enjoying your Videos in Australia 🇦🇺.. Cheers mate 👍. Great work
Your videos are wonderful! Please keep making them. What a blessing to learn from you. Thank you 🙏🏼💙
Thank you for your kind words.
Very interested and informative. The side rails aren't very thick timber but could I fix another piece of timber onto side rails to hold a piece of plywood into the base . There is a large space or cavity between the webbing and the bottom so I could put a piece of high density foam between the plywood and the webbing to hold the webbing up for more support Your advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks for reaching out. Little hard to make recommendations without having seen the chair. But if your concern is the rails strength. You could remove the webs and fix a plywood board to the top, then add your foam to that. That keeps it simple and adds strength. I hope that helps.
Please help. How do I fix a chair exactly like this one. It doesn't have springs in it only webbing at the bottom and it's collapsed
Magnifique
To sit on this chair would have been extremely uncomfortable. I suspect this was a DIY project. I've reused parts of a chair, sofa, etc. if it was in good order, but I don't see anything reusable here for the insides. I'm looking forward to watching and seeing the end results of your reupholster.
Thanks for the positive feedback and will definitely do something about sound levels. Thanks again.
great videos and very enjoyable but you have to do something with the sound volume of you talking- very low - have to increase sound volume to hear, to the music that comes on when you finished talking which then becomes very loud
Thanks.great to get positive feedback on the new venture (youtube)
Well done Mate!!☻
Above my expectations, highly recommend (must also thank you for my conservatory suite covers).
Our pleasure!
Good idea is that warren
There is something wrong I pressed the like button and went from 1 then zero
thanks i will check into this.
Exactly Warren, I don't do onsite repairs either firstly for the reason you said a secondly you have to take half the workshop with you load and unload, keep up the videos Warren, should get a good following soon, and hopefully monetised, keep making them it takes a while
Exactly!
Brilliant video Warren, same here I don't do onsite repairs for the same reason, and never found much interesting in them either, though go back 20 years plus always found plenty of change keep making the videos and £££££
If you kept all the templates of the many designs of sofas and chairs you would have no room to work, pleased to see someone doing videos like this with explanations of the work involved, in a few months you should get many more subscribers and b monetised get some merchandise to go with the channel and buy me a coffee ie donations
i hope it helps the public see the real work and time involved in quality work.
@@Hammondsupholsteryvery true and the skills involved, it's lucky that upholsters don't change electricians builders or plumbers prices doubt weather it would cover the ripping up and cutting
Well done Warren very well presented, hope all goes well for the channel, and it makes a living for you
Thank you kindly
Congrats on 7 subscribers, and nice stool!
Thanks!
Nicely done warren
