How to setup Harrison Live Trax software with Allen & Heath D-Live integration via MIDI
A quick run-through of how to setup the new Harrison Live Trax software with Allen & Heath D-Live, using midi to pull console channel names through to the DAW.
The midi connection here will also allow you to use the Transport controls on the D-Live to control Live Trax! You can then also assign these to soft-keys on the console should you wish.
When recording, it will also great markers in Live Trax based on when scenes are fires on the console.
If you have any other questions about other features, comment here and I can create another video that goes into more detail.

Using plug-ins in the live domain. In this video, I give you a quick rundown of the live sound rig I have been putting together during 2020, and its first ventures into venues in Jan 2021. Shot over 4 shows at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, working with artist Ben Stewart as he performs songs from his band Slowly Slowly in solo-mode. These shows were an ideal way of taking the setup I had teste...
Can’t thank you enough for being the only one with a vid on this rn 👏👏
Well... I tried to make it work this morning. DAW via Dante, no problem. MIDI... no joy. I can see the AH MIDI receiving midi data (if I move a fader), but not transmitting.
Thank you 😊
EXCELLENT <3
Thanks
Great video, What brand and model did you use as your touch screen monito?
I met you long time ago in Australia, <3 good to see you on this video!!!
first of all thank you for such a deep dive into this, was absolutely insightful! I just wonder if it's possible to send>Rtrn via USB slot (instead of dante) and use logic X as processor host? Cheer's dylan, definitely subscribing to you!
Looks nice, but what’s your total round trip routing and are you sending every channel into the love profession, as there’s no delay automatic delay compensation on the inserts at the sq series. As far as I know ✌🏼
Would like to hear it in action with tapping audio from the mixer
Thanks for sharing. I’m just a little bit confused. Does A&H allows group to group patching ?
I imagine Dylan is returning those groups to a pair of channels and then routing those out to the master drum group
How much pre-show time did you have for building the midi triggers and mix?
how to patch all of that ?
Awesome video, dude. It's amazing how much live sound has changed over the years.
Love your shit mate😍
"aaam"
I see a Reaper user, I Subscribe!! good stuff
Man - that DAW is insane with the amount of functionality. Got a workflow problem? Yeah, just create a solution. Crazy.
@@dylanmaudioexactly! Your mind is the limit with Reaper. I've been having so much fun with the CSI 3.0 extension and customizing how my X Touch integrates with custom actions
NL mix is excellent live, you do a great job 🤘🏻🔥
That delaythrow on the vocal was insane!
Thanks for this vid mate! Very informative.
Mixing live is crazy
Absolutely love this kind of content - I just play drums but have always been very fascinated with the stuff you guys do and the way you all implement tech, which I why I break Danny Olesh' balls so much haha - Great stuff mate
This is great mate, love to see it!
Dylan is the man!
Can I ask you a question that I don't understand? In the video you show us the structure of subgroups and masters, do you have the console configured as groups to groups? When you tell us that you have a Band Master, one for vocals and one for tracks, what do you mean? Greetings and thanks for these videos!
Yeah! I like to cheat my way through group-to-group mixing - on any console!
And this is the part i dont understand! Group to group in dlive is not posible!! Thanxs for your replay.
Hello, Dylan! I'm trying to do the same with Reaper and an A&H Avantis, could you share your Reaper project or make a specific video? Thank you so much!
@@dressink you just have to think outside of the box a little bit - or even like an analog signal flow mentality! Plug the output of a group into an input channel, then route that input channel into a group again :) Be aware though, this will add a small amount of latency (as it does for other consoles that DO allow bus-to-bus routing such as Digico)
@@phantomkik yeah cool! Maybe I can do a video to explain the methods I ended up with. I’m still learning but Reaper is very useful given all the custom commands you can make.
super super smart. What a great rig
That’s how I do it….
Thank you for sharing, awesome setup ! I assume you don't have issue latency because? If I'm correct you have external processing on tracks, busses and master, so it could basically triple your latency ?
Yes you’re right. My drums pass through UAD 3 times before outputting through the master. Low latency protocols help, along with running at 96khz. I’ve been running this same mix setup for quite a while now, with no perceivable latency. I should really measure it! But I would imagine total RTL is 10-15ms
This is awesome. Never thought of using UAD live mainly because Waves seem to dominate. Would love it if you can provide some content around that.
Both excel at different things IMO. UAD is better at emulations and ‘flavours’. Waves has better audio tools and effects.
But uad live is discontinued right ? How to use it in a proper way ? Need a old macbook with a specific version of Mac OS ?
@@yannperonyp yep - I have a Mac mini 2012 running High Sierra, alongside a Mac mini M1 for Waves
Sick. So so sick.
Do you have to use an old version of the OS on your Mac, not newer than Catalina, to use UAD Liverack?
Yeah - High Sierra is the only OS! I'm running a 2012 Mac mini.
Hey Dylan, can you tell me what the roundtrip latency on this rig is? And does Live Professor compensate different latencies between channels or send individual channels out at minium latency each?
I haven't used that setup for a while - but ballpark I think about 12ms with a number of round trips through sub-groups/master bus etc. In LP, you can 'time align' your inserts into groups if you like. For this particular setup with such little input count, it wasn't so important.
@@dylanmaudio Thanks! =)
great video, thanks
Just a little suggestion. DualLock tape work way better than regular velcro. You can use it basically forevere and hold things very solidly.
Thats why I use it so much, I should pretty much own shares :)
truly very very huge setup you done with this console. thanks for sharing. the question is if you connect directly dante card to the pc you dont have the same inputs ?? im trying to understand the focusrite pci role. is mandatory to have one?
PCI card let's you go down with latency.
It is to lower the latency. PCIE card allows 0.15ms minimum latency each in & out, per round trip Dante virtual Soundcard is 4ms minimum latency each in & out, per round trip. If you have multiple round trips - ie signals go through a channel chain, a subgroup chain, and a master bus chain, the latency stacks up every quickly.
What SQ5 software are you running on the Mac that gives live HQ fader meters? Thanks
SQ Mixpad! Very handy for high-res meters for this console with a v simple metering system!
Hugely inspiring video! Is the trick to getting acceptable latency having a UAD Quad/Octo PCIe card and a Dante PCe card? Would a thunderbolt Satellite & Dante PCIe be too slow for live? Do you have any thoughts on running inserts through Apollo instead, pros/cons? Much appreciated!
No too slow of live at all.. any thunderbolt Dante interface will allow low enough latency for a couple of round-trips in a live setting IMO. Hardware Inserts through the Apollo is a great idea, just means more I/O and analog cabling required but it's a very robust solution.
Nice porno 'stash! Show us your monster unit!
Can live professor read any apollo device ie. Apollo 16 via dante then onto thunderbolt? That would be nice if it csn pick up the dsp from there. Sweet setup btw thanks for posting.
My head was hurting trying to understand your signal flow at first, but you explained it so well!! What a sick rig m8!!!!
Nice setup! Have you tried Gig Performer?
No I haven't! I should give it a run..
You should, rock solid and way more flexible in every way
Hey Dylan! What would be your recommendation for a personal, budget rig for a vocalist of the same genre? Something for cleans & screams to move. maybe something around $1000-2000
For live? Invest in a good sound person who can make you sound great anywhere.
Cool setup - again ! Dylan, why using the UAD live rack instead of live professor 2 ? Advantages/disadvantages ?
Advantages are that it is rock solid with minimal configuration and computer strain. Less flexibility than LP though.
HI from the UK Dylan, thanks for the oustanding content! , My names Jack , I'm currently speccing a system with a similar set up but I've come unstuck with finding the relevant driver for the touchscreen, do you know where id need to look to find a dell driver for touchscreen control? :)
touch-base.com!
How is your set up configuration in Dante Virtual Soundcard?
I don't use Dante Virtual Soundcard in this setup
this is great! It gives me all kinds of ideas for live and recording.
Its lots of fun!
can u make a video about how to work with / setting up the server in use with live professor? thanks
is that just a touch screen monitor on the console? if so please could someone tell me which brand it is?
If I had $1 for everyone that asked me that question... Unfortunately they are discontinued. I've managed to locate 3 of them (2 in-use now, and 1 spare), and they were VERY difficult to find. They are excellent, cheap screens.
Nice video, what touchscreen are you using ??
And how did you secure it to the console ?
The brand is Innocn. They are discontinued. Using Dual-Lock to clip it onto the console.
I want to 3d print a small support/stabilising beam for the back of the waves plugin monitor😉 #wear and tear anxiety
