American Sign Language (ASL) is my first language. Mom and Dad are Deaf. That makes me a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults). I have been a certified interpreter at the State and National level. Taught ASL at the college level.
The goal for this channel is to give you the skill and confidence to have a conversation and develop a relationship with customers, associates, students, employees, friends and neighbors who are Deaf.

How would you sign “I care” or “I care about you”?
Your videos are so enjoyable and informative. I like your style of teaching, I’m learning so much! Thank you!
I don't have any deaf relatives in my family and I don't know anyone who is. But the way you teach with your soul, with love and enthusiasm made me want to learn. Congratulations, teacher, you are amazing!
Awesome video, thank you so much.
I have recently had a diagnosis that will mean I will become completely deaf in the coming years. I came across this video and it has brought me such comfort. Our God is an Awesome God ❤

Press the Lord
Thank you so much! I learn so much!
Happy to help!
That did help, indeed. Have seen signers at our church differentiate 'faithful' from 'faith' by adding a bounce to it.... two F hand shapes that meet, then the top one bounces forward.
I am 62 I find sign language fascinating I am thinking about being an ASL interpreter in Colorado
Good luck! Lots of resources to check out in Colorado as you begin your journey
I found your page recently and love your videos! Thank you for educating us viewers in such an enthusiastic manner. I’m new to signing and very excited to continue learning by watching more of your content :)!
Thanks for watching and keep signing!
cattagorizing learning works so well for me. thank you!!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching
Can I make a request? With the election that just passed, can I request signs that have to do with elections? Like president, VP, vote, electoral college, etc? I wasn’t sure where else to post the request. Thanks in advance!
OK...I'll work on it
Are there specific times when one would sign "soon" using the H hand shapes vs. an F hand shape tapping the chin? My grandson has gotten very good at "train" as we see them almost daily. "Lasagna" vs. "bacon"? Thank you for another helpful video!
Personally, I use the H handshape. Likely because that is the one I learned from my parents. I see the F handshape quite often. Personal choice. Congrats on having fun with the grandson! Back to my parents...used two fingers for lasagna AND bacon. However, I believe the better use would be four fingers for lasagna and two for bacon
@@signlanguagepractice Two for "bacon" and four for "lasagna" is what I had assumed. Thank you for doing this video on "H" hand shapes! Much appreciated.
Using the sign for "weight"; I've seen 'heavy' signed by the H-shaped dominant-hand on top pushing the H-shaped non-dominant hand down. My question is: Would 'light' be signed in reverse... by the hands going up instead of down?
Tough to describe this one...I sign "heavy" with both hands in a 5 shape, fingers slightly curled...imagine holding a heavy object and you move the hands down and then up. "Light" imagine beginning to sign the number 25, palms down, turn the hands up ..."Light". Probably better teaching via a video
@@signlanguagepractice Appreciate the description, but yes, a video, please.
Good revision and new vocabulary practice 👍. Did you do "name"? I am just imagining how our vocabulary would be improved if you treated all letters similarly.
Yes, I’d love to see him do this from a-z and even the 1-5 etc handshapes
I'm new to signing, but I believe "weight" has both hands moving, while "name" has the non-dominant hand stationary. I'm sure our host will confirm/clarify.
BIngo. Correct answer
OK...that's a big ask. But would make for a great set of videos
The y hand shape bouncing at the end , is one I've seen b4 yet didn't know if it's correct or not, thanks for using it in the lesson to confirm ❤
You are a dedicated learner!
This is the most impactful comment any teacher has ever given me. Gave me goosebumps actually @@signlanguagepractice❤Sir
I know I'm not alone, we appreciate you so much ❤
Thanks
Im sure deaf people would appreciate a lot the 90% of the correct interpretation... even with the mistakes interpreters do, they get to understand more than if there was no interpreter in the room... some is better than nothing...
I've never met an interpreter who got "everything" right "all the time"
@@signlanguagepracticethis is a bit relieving to know. My daughter recently became HOH due to chemotherapy treatments. I’ve recently been contemplating a career in interpreting but it seems quite intimidating!
@@jolieakea1640 Must be very difficult for your daughter. Like any other profession, interpreting takes time, effort, practice and a little bit of talent. Lots of free content on TH-cam. However, the BEST thing is to find a Deaf event and show up and do your best to communicate.
There many deaf events in Houston but all of them are at night. I have not found anything happening during the day yet😔… Or perhaps I’m an not looking for them correctly? I don’t know how to…
@@Maria-ix1up Google Houston Association for the Deaf (HAD) I just found a group in East Houston who meets during the day. Not sure where you are located, but, try the same process
I enjoyed this video! But it took me a while to find it. Would you do a playlist with the videos on your channel regarding Religious signs? Thank you for all you do!
I'm a self taught ASL.. Love your teaching.. easy to learn.. I fall in love with ASL language.. It's a language but in silence..
Thanks. A beautiful language.
How do you sign “trick”??? As in magic trick? Or would I use the sign “fool”?
Yes I have seen "fool" used.
Am watching this video, again. Can never get enough practice. Would you consider doing another one of these, perhaps with the H handshape?
Ok...here you go. th-cam.com/video/7iH_CdHrtpc/w-d-xo.html
ASL video without captions is hilarious lmao
Thanks for catching that. Should be working now.
so good thank you
Thanks for watching
How to sign "twice daily"? In Pharmacy, often medication is to be taken twice each day (or three times each day).
non dominant hand, in a 5 shape, held vertically. Dominant hand, sign for "2", middle finger starts the middle of the palm and pops up quickly. If three times each day, same process, but the number 3.
You are such a joy! God bless you for helping me relearn asl. You make my husband and I so glad. What a blessing you are!!!!!
That's pretty high praise...thank you
I'm doing more than just to 'contemplate' during this practice video, I'm rejoicing in more ways to worship the Lord. 😊
Wonderful!
Oh wow, math and Lying look the same
math is both hands with a modified "m" crossing over each other in front of the body. Lying is a single hand, similar handshape to math, under the chin
Great fun lesson, I'll have to practice " Convince "
Just not on a loved one
cutie 🥰
I really appreciate how passionate you are about asl, it makes me excited to learn :)
Easy to do when it's your native language. Thanks for being willing to learn!
Hello, I am curious where you live? In PA they sign a lot of these different- similar but pretty different, gospel is same motion over top of open palm up-non dominant hand.
Western US. Yes, definite regional differences.
I'm new to all of this. It's a little overwhelming! I had a lung operation a couple of months ago were my vocal cords were damaged with a breathing tube. I'm taking speech therapy but my voice is just not there. Now I'm trying to learn sign language by myself to be able to communicate or feel like I have a way to communicate. But when you don't have anyone to talk to or practice with is hard. In my 41 years of life I have never felt so isolated. At this point I'm just trying to take it one day at at time and your channel has been helping a lot. Thank you!
Don't push the voice. Have you checked out the local community colleges to see if they teach any courses?
Thank you. I am in my 4th semester of ASL in college, I only knew a few of these.
You will learn signs from lots of sources...class, TH-cam, Deaf community etc...
❤
Thanks
More of these please! Thank you! Love your videos!!
Glad you liked it!
Yess! Please continue making these interpreting practice videos! I am an inspiring asl interpreter and I struggle with this and finding out the right word to use when interpreting asl to English and vice versa! You definitely get it!lol I feel like I’m never going to get it. But I’m going to take your advice and keep going! Thanks 😊
Going to be a life long journey!
@ 😩😩😩 I can do it!!! Lol
Hi I enjoyed watching this very informative video. I’m a Red Cross volunteer and help those impacted by disasters such as home fires or mud slides. I’m currently taking ASL for emergency management but I learned more in this short video than the last seven weeks taking the course. I’d like to learn more disaster related signs please
Thank you for being willing to serve
Hi thanks for this video! Me and my deaf/hh son are watching Halloween movies and they had magic/super powers on there. Thanks!
That is awesome!
THANKS :)
You're welcome!
Hi, I know this video is 2 years old but is there a specific sign for “I do”?
Seen several options..."I promise", "I will", "Yes"
Thank you so much for this teaching. May God bless your ministry.
Kind of you to say...appreciate the prayer
Only halfway thru the video but dang it’s so good already. My partner recently started to pursue learning ASL to enhance and add to her social work skills so I’ve been watching along. I was curious about other languages like Spanish or French or Italian etc. do all understand asl? Or are there differences per language? Thanks and great video so far!!
Every language has a distinct sign language. For example, it is easier for me to understand a Deaf person from Chile than one from Britain despite the similar English spoken language
@@signlanguagepractice interesting! Thank you for sharing
I need science signs for 6th grade. Cells, mitachondria things like that.
Focus and hall, new to me ❤
Thanks for coming back
@@signlanguagepractice Always coming back. You are Part of Christ family
Great lesson ❤thanks for admitting, that even the best signers, make mistakes too
the best signers make lots of mistakes...that's how they become the best signers
@@signlanguagepractice I suppose, like super Athletes, eg: Michael Jordan, didn't become great,by being successful every play
