    My son is in the market for a pro horn although he isn’t that great of a player yet. Most important it needs to be something he likes to play on. Now just have to figure out which sax that is. When buying on eBay how to figure out if it’s not a fake or how much service it needs, plus no change to play test it. Yanagisawa btw doesn’t make any student or intermediate horns.

    My 4th grader starting school band was handed a student model Jupiter JAS710GNA alto priced at $2945 or $50/month rental. How the heck is a student model priced this high? This isn't much less than a Yamaha YAS 62 pro alto. I am seeing pro models of some brands priced similar or less than a student Jupiter JAS710GNA. For example, a Jean Paul AS-860 pro alto is around $1499. I know they're made in China but still have some pretty good reviews and an American company. I'm just trying to understand what the justification is for a "student" model Jupiter JAS710GNA ($2945) being priced about 4X more than other beginner horns like the Better Sax alto (currently $699 on SW) and 5X more than something like the Jean Paul AS-400 student alto? Is the Jupiter really 4-5X better than these others or are we being fleeced by Jupiter and music stores that have a hold on schools? $3k for a student model/beginner saxophone seems insane. But if the Jupter really is worth it, we'll buy it.

      That’s too much money and no, Jupiter is not that good. Please watch this video from beginning to end. It will answer your questions.

    • @1MJ981
      @1MJ981 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@79mupoh Thanks, I did watch the entire video and was surprised to hear you mention the entry levels ranging up to around $1500 because as I said, this Jupiter student model is double that. I don't get how they're asking this much. I am a little scared of the, as you said, "buyer beware" used market since I have no ability to fix an instrument just in case there's a surprise issue. Since my message earlier, my wife said the school told her we can purchase the Jupiter at a 40% discount at any time, whether it is the entire value now or 40% of whatever balance is left several months from now after renting $50/month. So I guess at around $2,000 or a little less, that's a bit easier to stomach but it's still a student model so I'm going to keep researching options. Thanks again for the reply and video.

    Respectfully disagree; see Chick Corea on this issue. You have to develop an internal sense of time, and it's not static (metronomic) at all. It flows, ebbs and weaves, like the moon.

    You are the best tutor i have found on Utube so far. I have been playing Alto sax for just two months and have been making slow progress. My greatest obstacle has been in maintaining my Ombuteur. Just answer me this question please 🙏… If student and professional saxophones sound the same, why we don’t see any musician playing on student saxophones ? I have never seen any professional player using a student saxophone in their concerts or shows.

      Pro horns sound better, but a pro can make a student horn sound good. Most pros use pro horns because they are an investment to their career.

    Yup. I've played metals from Guy Hawkins, Bergs, Link STM, Beechler Bellite, SR TECH, Runyon, Wolfe Wayne, Meyer, Lakey, Rousseau, on and on for 35 years. And each time I listened to a recording of myself, I got so mad, because my sound was still the same. I finally just settled on a Runyon Quantum and Beechler Bellite 10. Because they were loud, easy to blow, and never tried me out. Blew at least a thousand dollars in all those years. I bought the "deals" mostly from eBay. Never spent more than $129 on a mouthpiece. I should've listened to Don Menza.

    I've listened to both the curved and straight neck C-Melody Saxs (Can I call it a Contralto Sax?) and like the straight neck sound better. More alto-y, but in a pleasant contralto register. Like Dianne Reeves, Diana Krall, Karen Carpenter. Very nice.

    Facts because I play a John Packer Tenor (I know cheap horn but I'm broke) but I play professionally so I figured I'd try a YTS 62 iii maaaann the difference was night and day. It was crazy how much better the 62 played and more free blowing paired with my STM 7*.
