Maypop Passion Fruit from Seeds, Update! (Passiflora Incarnata)
I have one that appeared on my fence last season here in Nashville. It produced a few blooms and from what I can tell, one fruit. Does that sound like a first year plant? I’m hoping it comes back stronger this spring.
Absolutely. First year is mostly about building a root system. Assuming it survives the cold it should come back stronger and hopefully you’ll have little baby sucker plants in the area. If you don’t like their location you can carefully transplant them just be careful to include enough roots. I accidentally killed a few by digging them up before they could produce their own roots and they didn’t make it. Sometimes they send out an underground stem with no roots a couple feet away and what appears to be a new plant starts growing and many times it won’t have any roots yet.
@ thank you for the tips! I actually like where it is. I cleared out several invasive vines behind it. And I plan on keeping them cut down to the ground as they reappear while allowing the passionfruit to takeoff.
Oh my gosh, I finally found you. I've been studying mushrooms for the last year. I am my Carrington 's. Best buddy he passed away and I'll always recognize how much he adored you. I'm interested in taking one of your courses. Lots of love. Thanks!
How many of them actually terminated?
It’s about 25% germination. Only 2 of those seeds from that bag actually grew. I think 4 or so sprouted but two of the 4 were very weak so I just selected the two strongest.
Did you have to put them in the fridge for any period of time for cold stratification?
Nope, I didn’t do any cold stratification, I kept them in my office in a plastic bag. My office is always 72 degrees.
Dude, great episode! I appreciate your tips and insights for projects like this. My blackberry bramble is doing well!
Thanks Brother, I appreciate the love. They are the perfect defensive food providing plant!
Did it fruit the first year?
Yes, like 3 fruits first year, but it got like 10x more fruit the second year.
Nice!
Thought I was one of the very few who sucked the nectar out of Trumpet Creeper . And yes Humming Bird love them . The nectar is very sweet. Just have to look out for bugs in them before sucking the trumpet's.
Thank you so much 🙏 I've tried so many times to grow them and failed. I hope this trick works this time. Excellent video 😊
Will it grow in tn.7b?
It grows in Mo 6A natively so I would assume so. The crown survives winter
I saw your comment on “Come Back” and want to hear your story ❤
what does it look like as a seedling?
Kinda like corn
They say it's impossible, don't tell me what I can't do. I'm going to try
th-cam.com/video/kYxpGNgkE84/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rbIwBYjfX_moUWOS Here’s an update on some of the cuttings that grew
The sprouting seeds idea is a good one I’ll have to try out. I have a TON of sprouting seeds.
Are your soy being attacked by Japanese beetles? They are a huge problem in my area. I use traps for them but they still manage to damage some of our stuff.
Nope, it’s mostly my young Apple and Grape leaves that get attacked by Japanese beetles. They pretty much ignore everything else.
This is so cool! I can almost smell it 😂 thank you for sharing 😊
lol 😂 it certainly has a memorable smell
i imported cuttings from online store & all have 4 nodes into that, i will use grafting in the morning, & all the base are cut from just less then half inch, so if that works, i will use the top 3 nodes of every stem in correct way, while i can use the bottom ( base) bud with inverted position, will that work sir ?
I’m not sure, that sounds like an interesting experiment though. Let me know if it works. 😊
@@thechaosgardener hahaha lol
onion ?
Yup! Good eye!
do you get squash beetles ?
wow 🤩
i need one of these in my life 😮
are these poisonous?
Nope winecaps are edible and delicious.
Update: I did an experiment with grafting dormant scion wood onto dormant rootstocks and active rootstocks and while dormant scions are critical, I had much higher success with a dormant scion and an active rootstock which I did on a few vines after budbreak on native rootstock vines around my fences
Tried to get these to sprout about 20 times and not a single one sprouted gonna try again with this technique thanks.
Make sure they don’t dry out. They need to be used shortly after removing from the fruit.
How do you stop your misting system from freezing during frosts?
It freezes below 26 degrees or so It works great for light frosts but anything more intense fails.
Omg 5 or 6 truck loads!
Yup breaks down fast. After 6 months 2/3 of each pile is gone
What about the hips that are really brown and seem dried , are they viable? Great video for tribute to your late Wife
Yes, they should work great. I would imagine after a couple years the viability of the seems might decrease. Another sure bet for older seeds is to spread the seeds on a damp paper towel and put it in the fridge in a ziplock bag for a month to make sure they fully hydrate
Will pomegranate grow in Kansas City?
With winter protection. This video was made in my Arizona homestead. I haven’t tried growing pomegranate here in KC yet.
Did they ever sprout? I went through at least 100 seeds last spring and not a single one sprouted.
OH MY GOD 😮 That is amazingggg😊
Good stuff 👏
Did you put them in the fridge when they were in the soaked paper or just a cool dark place?
Just a dark drawer in my office desk. It’s about 70 degrees year round.
Thankyou for this info. Question 1- If the rose that I bought have no developed nodes, what should I do? Question 2- Should I cover the cuttings with a soda bottle to promote growth?
Something I should have mentioned when I made this tutorial is the importance of making sure the stems are healthy. This is based on speculation since I cannot see the cuttings but I would guess they might have been treated and so I would recommend soaking them under water for 10 minutes before starting the process of preparing the cuttings. When you make cuts you’ll want to look closely at the edge near the bark. This is the cambium. When you get familiar with what healthy cambium looks like you’ll spot rot. If there’s any rot in the cuttings you need to remove the rot and make sure the visible ends are healthy material. The cambium is going to be important for transporting water to the leaves and turning into roots. If it’s rotten or starting to decay it won’t be effective at moving water and turning into roots. If the cuttings/flowers are relatively new and appear to be healthy they should be easily rooted. If they are not healthy they won’t root. A soda bottle can be useful but you have to be careful because if the stems are starting to rot the bottle will accelerate the rot and make a great environment for mold.
@thechaosgardener Thankyou so much for the detailed explanation! Cheers!
Beautiful!! Enjoy for us.
Wonder how oysters would do with this.
My sweet potatoes leaves are all turning yellow and are falling off, I’ve had them since the end of early fall right after I harvested them. They were doing great and I even gave them a little bit of food. Any idea why out the blue they’ve lasted this long and now end of December and Beginning January it’s turning yellow
I would add some hydroponic nutrient solution. They might have leaf miners or a fungal issue. I’ve had both of those things happen. I like to root my slips in my aerogardens
The term for mycilium rapidly colonizing a substrate is also the title of my favorite book by Paul Stamets "Mycilium Running". I bought my copy at a yard sale for $1 from someone who was more concerned about spreading knowledge than making a profit.
Thanks very much
So cool. I can’t wait to see it all come alive in the Spring. Do one of the back yard and the orchard.
Gorgeous!!!
Looking forward to experimenting with this, thanks!
Bleugh!
The leaves look like a Shangri-La but the growth pattern seems more like a Pakistani. Pakistani mulberry trees have more of a vertical upward growth pattern, whereas Shangri-La tends to grow horizontally, droop and want to grow straight to the ground. I'm constantly trying to encourage my Shangri-La Mulberry to grow more upright. I clip all the side and downward pointing branches, trying to leave the upward pointing buds. But they often change course and grow downward anyway. Beautiful trees, though! I love the HUGE leaves. And the berries are MUCH tastier than Pakistani mulberries! 😋
what a waste of valuable time watching this dude, not everykne got cash laying around to buy fancy machines.
They are like $20 at goodwill. How much was your phone
Hello. Very interesting‚ i love your method. I gess you select anaerobi facultative bacteria‚ lower the pH and easy accessible food for bacterial mold or other is already eaten so fungus are well set to take over.
Yup exactly. Cripple competition but still allow the fungus to develop a strong immune system
I don't saprophytic fungi like winecap usually kill nematodes. It's mostly mycorrhizal species that do that

Our willows still have most of their leaves! And of course the marigolds are all champs. I haven’t gone out there to see the effect of the snow… I messed up and did not plant my bulbs… was going to do it over this long weekend but now it’s probably too late. 😩
Yeah it’s so weird how some trees drop their leaves right away and others hold them for so long. I wonder what causes that
Halito 👋🏽 Looks like you got a little more snow than we did north of the river.
