    Yup. There is no other car that is this fun to drive anywhere near the price point. The Abarth couldn't touch it, neither could the Focus ST. You have to drive one to get it. The FiST has the right nickname. It packs a punch. It's not fast, but it's fast enough to be fun. 4 wheel discs, sport suspension and 17s on an econobox. It stops being an econobox and starts being fun to drive, even with just the base engine, but you get more than that. The 1.6 turbo is a workhorse that powered SUVs, vans and the Taurus. Put it in a 2750 lb. car, give it around 200 hp/tq, and you've got a hot hatch. Not that quick in a straight line, but lots of fun in the curves. Ford rallied these cars and won. The April/May 2024 Road and Track magazine was titled "The 20 Greatest Cars We've Ever Driven." The Fiesta ST was on that list. The only other Ford was the GT. It's just a magazine, but that's a hell of an endorsement from a seriously qualified crowd of car enthusiasts. The GT and the FiST. 2 of the 20 Greatest. Ford's most exotic race car and a hot hatch they did right. Congrats to Ford for getting 10% of the greatest cars!

    2+2's are for sure underrated Z's. I have a 2+0 and it's great but it's not as easy to get the rear end to slide out as the 4-seater was. My cousin had a 2+2 Z32 that he absolutely loved until he found out that there were 2-seater models. I tried to tell him that the longer wheel base was a good thing for what he wanted to do but he sold it anyway. He was never super smart tho cuz after that he got an MR2 and when when that broke he went and bought a Chrysler Lebaron turbo convertible haha. Needless to say he never really got to go drifting. I myself am not in the local drift community and I don't want to drift my Z31 but I do like to go watch friends and go for ride alongs ^_^

    A 1990 gts coupe was my first car, in 1999. Wasn't that fast but it was fast enough to be fun, especially for a reckless 18yo who wanted to put it sideways around every corner possible.

    I owned a 1987 EXP. It had the High Output version of this engine with the same 5 speed transmission. The HO motor had sequential port injection and a better intake manifold along with some factory cylinder head porting. I think it put out around 110 hp. It was not fast but was kinda quick for the time. A girl I dated had a regular escort with the automatic , the auto really killed it. My EXP with the 5 speed was noticeably faster. With just over 80K miles it broke the timing belt, luckily no engine damage occured. Threw on a new belt and kept on motoring.

    I think you felt the way you did because you don't know the car. You spent a short time with it on a road that wasn't that inspiring to drive. This car was meant to be driven hard and fast on back roads and it will do it all day long and put a smile on your face. I just took my GR Corolla on a 5300 mile road trip, mostly on back roads, and it was amazing. It's very easy to keep in the power band where there is no turbo lag and it will pull without issue. I took it to the top of Pike's Peak at 14115' and she never even cared about the elevation. Also an FYI, the suspension doesn't change in any mode but the steering does in Sport Mode. The chassis is also different than the standard Corolla. It's based on a standard Corolla but there are a lot more chassis welds and extra adhesives. I find that the car has a lot of character and the more I drive it the more fun it is. One short drive can't do it justice at all. One owner is a professional rally race driver and he has told me how amazing the GRC is. There is another owner near me that is a professional Porsche driver that trains people to drives a Porsche and he owns one and loves it. These are examples mom people that know how to drive and how to get the most out of a car so I take their experience with a lot of weight. And I'll keep on enjoying mine with every mile too! 😍 Thanks for your thoughts.

      I can definitely attest to it driving great, my main gripe was the turbo & pedal delay. I shoot these reviews from the eyes of the every day enthusiast & I drive on realistic "every day" roads (thats all we got on Long Island lol). So while I'm sure this car feels great on a track, I want to give my thoughts on how it does on a day-to-day basis on common roads. Thanks for the advice! I really do wish I did some more homework on this review, there are some cool facts & features I missed the mark on

      @@kaoriisdriving I don't track mine at all and I don't think it's the best track car either. I think it's best on back roads, canyons and in the mountains as that's where it shines. When driving in those situations it's very easy to keep the RPMs 3-4k range and I never notice any lag at all, and here are every day roads. Now when driving around other traffic and in the city I don't care as much as I'll just go with the flow of traffic and it will easily stay with the pack. It's too bad you don't have more exciting roads to drive near you so you can really see what the car can do, that would require a drive to upstate NY.

    I have my eye on these. Have to drive one because it woukd be a dad car replacement for a much more powerful sports car. You mentioned the Golf R. That's such a frustrating car for me. In terms of packaging, options, and performance, I think it's a great value. I just don't know if I could buy one for similar reasons you gave about the Corolla. It's just so plain and boring looking. It's not an ugly car by any means, but there's no flair to it compared to the Type R or GRC. And the fact that blue is the color accent is personal. Bummer for me. Not a fan

    • @kaoriisdriving
      @kaoriisdriving 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gabea.458 totally valid points honestly. The Golf R has no personality, but man it’s such a better sports car if you’re looking for speed. If I were you, getting a dad car, I might pick the Corolla over the golf R just out of it feeling more like a tuner car. The R is sophisticated and mature, but the GR is fun and exciting (in my opinion). Also- the problems I had with the GR can pretty easily be fixed with a tune or a pedal commander. Some folks are making 500whp on these motors unopened. Hope you find the right car for you !!

      @@strifu808 I can admit to the fact I wish I had done some more research before this video, as it was a last minute arrangement. That doesn’t change the fact that I actually drove the car and I’ve driven lots of cars & my disappointment comes from my personal comparison to other similar vehicles. The JCW Clubman I reviewed was a lot more fun and had a lot more character. I mean what’s even the point of an honest review if I’m going to figure out all the intricate specs of the car and just tell you what everyone else is telling you? @@kaoriisdriving Poor excuse, a chassis being reinforced is not something to overlook in a car like this. It's pretty much the point of the car. I don't like the corolla and I don't praise it at all for any dynamics having owned it, It doesn't impress anyone of your caliber. I agree, I have driven better cars, but having the information correct in a car review is standard. How else do you think viewers can trust your aforementioned reviews if your credibility doesn't stand in something so simple? you claim honesty yet you're presenting a blatant lie, that's perjury. Other than the fact you didn't do your due research, the justification of the car being less fun than a clubman jcw is a testimony to how much your opinion can be valued, subjectively.

    A few people have been disappointed with the performance of the GR Corolla. Nemtec TH-cam channel showed how the OEM transmission collars in the transmission are poorly designed Hubs and 2nd & 5th gear are Weak... They recommended PPG straight cut gears or CUSCO Reinforced Transmission Clutch Hubs or a Sequential transmission... They also talked about front differential is smaller than the Rear Differential, which causes slipping and heating. Another Expensive fix...Yet they have 3 GR Corolla Hatchbacks. 😂😂😂

    Oof. Strike one: I don’t believe any technical evaluation by anyone who sets climate control to LO. Do you really want the car to be 50 degrees in a tshirt, or do you set it like that “to make it cold faster?” Because that’s not how it works. Strike 2: turning off all the TC. You’re not a racing driver chasing lap times. Strike 3: “expert mode stiffens up the suspension!” No it doesn’t. The suspension is not dynamically adjustable. Sorry kid, do your homework, and come back in a couple years when you’re honest about what you know.

      @@aluisious hey thanks for the critique! I’ve driven a good amount of cars now, so I feel I can make some decent comparisons. I will admit I wish I did some more research on the car prior to the shoot, but it was somewhat last minute; anyways, my reviews are more of a blind reaction to the driving experience. You can find a full list of specs , quirks, and features on so many channels but I want to give you my raw feelings and honest reactions, as an every day enthusiast. I only set the AC to LO because it gets wicked hot in cars when I’m doing reviews , I actually usually turn off the climate control completely, but having this one on the feet was quiet enough to where it didn’t blow into my mic the whole time haha. Moral of the story is, I’m not a professional car reviewer or critique. I have a full time job & cars are my passion. I shoot these videos as a scope through the eyes of an every day car enthusiast. 0-60 in 4.9 is actually kind of terrible. It’s a 300 hp, four wheel drive compact car. It should be faster. I’m figuring that’s a ton of turbo lag. I drove a cts vsport that did it in 4.5 seconds and that car was 400 hp and 4000 lbs, rwd.
