Top 5 Best Historic Decks MTG Arena Meta
Just found your channel since I am trying to get into timeless/historic. Has been really helpful and the videos seem high quality so far, much love
Colour fixing... In a momo deck?
Decent deck can slow lot of decks down just not the fastest
Close to it though!
Cool list, thanks! I'm playing variants on 4 decks on this list (Eldrazi, artifacts, devotion and enchantments). I think the Eldrazi list needs 4 devourers to maximize your chances on Ugin's Labyrinth. Also, I'm splashing green for Sowing Mycospawn (more ramp/land selection) and a single Dust Bowl for land destruction which comes up quite often.
Love it!
Most of these decks say weak to fast aggro, yet fast aggro doesn't seem to be prevalent in the meta? Maybe there's an opening for an aggressive deck to make some progress in this meta
Mardu Energy is pretty aggressive right?
Incredible video quality👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you liked it! 👌
Um, the turn 1 sorin belcher play listed doesn't work. Land into a dark ritual into sorin drains your mana pool, so nothing left to cast the Sacrifice on the Saint Elenda token.
You’re completely right, I’ve played the deck loads so I don’t know why I made that mistake when writing the script. Probs cos I was rushing - my mistake everyone! Won’t happy again 💪
@GetGuudMTG don't get me wrong, turn 1 Sorin into the Sacrifice could work with a turn 0 Gemstone Caverns. But even without that, a turn 1 Sorin/Vein Ripper, Lord X or St. Elenda is usually enough for me to get a gg.
I've personally been doing good the last few months with Domain zoo. The mix of Kavu, Brawler and Mockingbird enabling Stubby Dee plus Tribal Flames and Ajani just is fast enough to both quickly kill combo and control decks and win the race against other aggro decks. I'm only waiting for Scion of Draco to be added to Arena so that the deck can be complete
Nice glad it’s working for you! You gong the lurrus or non-lurrus build? I always seem to crush zoo so would be interested to see how you build it
@@GetGuudMTG Non-Lurrus with Leyline Binding. It's the best for the Omnitell metagame, and Psychic Frog is also so good in the build
I also do well with Domain zoo. Maindecking vexing bauble and running Leyline Binding helps with the Omnitell matchup.
@ Vexing bauble sounds really good, I’ll try it later sb but it’ll be hard to know what to cut
@ thats the only issue with domain is all of the options are so good cuts are hard! I wanted to fit in Leyline of the Pact but it is so hard to find 2 slots let alone 4
Timeless has changed!
I know right. Sure, it’s subtle changes, but definitely a lot of subtle changes!
I put the wrong pros and cons on the first deck - sorry! Here they are: Explosive Reanimation Plays: Reanimate enables turn-2 or turn-3 game-breaking threats like Overlord of the Balemurk and Phlage. Versatile Removal and Interaction: Swords to Plowshares, Orcish Bowmasters, and Thoughtseize provide strong answers to opposing threats and strategies. Synergistic Sacrifice Engine: Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord and Dedicated Dollmaker allow powerful interactions with cards like Saint Elenda for value and tempo. Weak to Graveyard Hate: Cards like Leyline of the Void or Unlicensed Hearse can shut down reanimation and disrupt key synergies. Struggles Against Fast Combo: While interactive, the deck can lose to combo strategies that win before its threats hit the board. Reliant on Key Pieces: The deck depends on graveyard recursion or Sorin to power out impactful creatures, which can be disrupted by removal or counterspells.
Pros and cons for the first deck look to be for omnitell?
well spotted!! I've just pinned a comment with the correct ones. Thanks for letting me know :)
A correction: About artifact hate, the video mentions Kataki, War's Wage, but that card isn't on the client
Well spotted!
Just came back after 3 or 4 years only have the first 2 sets. Iv been using the decks I've created before. What boosters are best to open
Welcome back! Of course it always depends on a lot of factors but personally, if you’re playing ‘eternal’ formats like historic (which I assume you are as your watching this lol), then Modern Horizons 3 is probably your best bet as it’s simply the most powerful set. Hope that helps 🤜🤛
Surprised this video hasn’t blown up yet. Really well put together man, I enjoyed it a lot!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it 💪
Are you gonna make for BO1 too? Thanks
I tend to take lists from BO1 and BO3 then merge them into one - so no sorry. One day I'd love to do seperate videos for each but I don't have the time and think it's more valuable spending my time on another format. But keep an eye out, one day I will! :D
He's back
And I ain’t leaving ever again 😉😂
Sums up historic
Surprised wizards didn't make cut
@@jacktalehand It's funny you say that, it was on the list and I cut it just before putting it together! Minaly because it's quite similar to the Kiora list. Wizards is definitely great though!
Timeless meta game challenge is coming again. Any updates?
I’ve had a bit of a break from uploads but have planned to release 2 videos this weekend. One will be a Timeless update 💪
The other video (releasing first) will be a historic update too!
Haven’t finished it in time - expect it this upcoming week 💪
Nice with!
Been giving Acererak Combo a try. Haven’t seen too much success, but that’s been mostly due to poor playing on my part, and my LGS meta being mostly aggro or disruptive decks. Love it when I can successfully get the combo off, but it just seems a bit too clunky for competitive pioneer at the moment.
Really cool deck! Definitely a playable option 💪
And strategies based on discarding cards? I think they have a good rank here.
Cheers, I'm considering switching from standard and this is very helpful!
Do it bro! Historic is fun and not as many Agrro decks so you have time to achieve your win cons
The irony of a no skill trash fail calling himself git gud. Hard facts; if you're playing net decks, you're no skill trash because you can't build your own deck and you can't level up unless you play one of the top pro built decks in the game. Now you may be fail because you're new. If that's the case, start building and testing your own decks and learn to play. If you're not new but pretending to be pro by making an internet how to video, you're lazy no skill trash
Jund Food is pretty good too
It’s sure is!
How can i find the decks in deck builder?
Hey! Sorry, I don’t actually know. To be honest with you it’s been months since I’ve been on Hearthstone - sorry I’m not much help!
is ragavan banned?
Nope! Some builds run him, some don’t. It depends on how much Orcish Bowmaster you’re running into!
love the editing and very well explained!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 👌
Im playing a dimir soulflayer soulflayer deck. I’ve genuinely had a good bit of success with it but I don’t think it’ll be meta anytime soon because it can be heavily affected by sideboards
boros energy gets me hard
Play this deck on arena and it’s really really fun
I love it!
If only the rcqs were pioneer
Why is that mate? Do you prefer pioneer over modern?
@@GetGuudMTG I prefer to play pioneer at least once a year at a comp rel event
Yeah that’s fair. Modern is my favourite format so I’m always happy to play it haha! Definitely wanna be able to play pioneer competitively at least some point in the year too though!
@@GetGuudMTG exactly
I just started getting into magic again playing online. Went to my 1st event today and won it (limited) now that i won that i qualified for a regional event in january and its modern so gotta build a deck from scratch for it
Congrats and good luck with the tournament! 🫡
Have you decided on a deck? I’m intrigued 😃
I've literally just got the cards from the sealed event I was at and none other than that so I am really not sure may just end up going with the cheapest one price wise but I'm waiting for thos new set to drop incase it changes things
Fair play! If you’re looking for something good that’s cheap (for modern’s standards at least) I’d recommend giving affinity a try
@GetGuudMTG thank you. One thing I'm not sure about is when I see alot of these decks they don't seem to have many cards from the newest sets (I've mostly just played duskmourne and bloomburrow drafts) is there a power discrepancy? Like the standard decks don't have a presence at all in modern (from the little I've seen)
My man. Buy a thesaurus, the number of times you described things as "powerful" or "extremely explosive" it became a meme in my head. There's so many other words you can use. Editing is on point but your scripting needs work.
Agreed! Writing’s always been a weakness of mine but I try my best. I’m much better visually (hence the editing and graphics I enjoy making for the videos), but I’ll continue to work on my scripting skills and try to do better
Nacatl is actually rarely registered these days. Bowmaster is more common
Sure if you ignore ring, energy decks, and how linear the format is, then yeah.....healthy!
Exactly! I’m glad you understand the Among Us imposter reference at the beginning haha! To be fair though, I haven’t had as much fun with a format as I am right now with modern, in agggggggges. Though admittedly, that is because I’ve only played decks with the ring in it…
Though even with a ring and energy ban well likely Still have issues. But at least they will be alot less. At that point in December I could see there being an archetypal imbalance in the format.
To be fair though, so long as new cards are printed, there’s always going to be a new card with a target on its back. So personally, I’m glad they’re at least giving the Ring a chance to be used in modern. Even now, I’m personally not 100% certain on whether it needs a ban or not, but I’m definitely leaning towards it does! 😅
@@GetGuudMTG I think if a card is a value engine used in 50 percent of modern decks that's way to much. Can't compare it to bolt where it's more of an answer than an engine or Wincon. Modern is supposed to feel varied, there's alot of cards in the format. So when 50 percent of games have ring and 30 have energy. It really hurts the diversity modern is supposed to have. There will always be a deck with a target, and that's ok, it's a part of the game. But when its such a huge percent, that's when I question wizards ability to manage the format.
Thank you for taking the time to comment about this, I absolutely LOVE debating topics like this. Whether I agree with you or not, when it comes to MTG, it's never black or white so playing devil advocate is so fun! 👇 I disagree with the diversity side of things, if you look at the bigger picture it's actually very diverse. Yes, Energy is clearly holding too much of the meta share, but outside of that, the meta is fantastic! So we can firstly agree on energy, it needs to be hit by a ban, but the Ring is more complex. Focusing on the Ring specifically, just because it's in 50% of the decks, doesn't mean it's in 50% of the games like you suggest it would - in fact there's a huge difference. Let me explain why. Firstly, the data isn't perfect. If a deck has 1 copy of the Ring, 2 copies, 3 copies or even the full 4 copies, it's still valued as a deck including the Ring - for example a Boros Energy decks running 2 copies counts a single deck in the meta share, and an Eldrazi deck with the full 4 also counts as just 1 deck in the meta share. So not all of those decks will mean you're playing against the Ring the same amount, it'll vary within the 50% of the meta share, deck by deck, game by game, player by player. In addition to this, you still need to actually draw it. The Ring is (currently) the same as any other card in modern, you can only run 4 copies total, so within each individual game you'd be just as likely to see the ring as you are to see anything else in their deck - of course, that they're running in the same quantity as the ring i.e 4x Ring is just as likely to be drawn as 4x Primeval Titan. Then you have to also think about how the Ring is often sided out of your deck in certain matchups, or how the data isn't always correct because not all games are recorded, or maybe your opponent has it and doesn't have enough mana, or some people won't play it because they can't afford it with actual real life money - etc. Basically, what I'm getting at is that there's so many factors involved and once you're in game, it's a fair playing field when it comes to how much you'll see The One Ring - you're just more likely to get matched up against some one with it in their deck. That's what you can take away from the 50% of deck including it. So to clarify, The One Ring being in 50% of decks DOES NOT mean it's in 50% of games. In fact it'll be way lower and it's not actually as bad as the 50% originally makes it look. (yes it's still more than any other card but way less than 50% of actual games). But for the sake of it, lets imagine a world where you did play against it in 50% of the games, the decks playing it vary drastically, so technically it doesn't hurt the diversity of modern. That's because the 50% of decks in the meta utilising the Ring isn't just a few decks, it's many different decks and archetypes, leading to a diverse meta. For example, some of the different decks adding up to the 50% Ring total are Jeskai Control, Boros Energy, Amulet Titan, Eldrazi / Through the Breach, Tron, Grinding Station, Mono Black Midrange, Twiddle Storm, 4/5c Omnath and lots more! So even if 100% of your games had the Ring in it, you'd still be playing against a diverse field of decks, covering Midrange, Combo, Control and a touch of Aggro with Boros Energy. So diversity isn't issue. What it actually does, is make modern decks more homogenous. So to be clear, diversity is great in fact we have a lot of meta diversity. But then within those decks, we have high levels of homogeneity. Is this bad? Maybe, but maybe not. That's why it's a more difficult and nuanced decision Wizards have to make. Looking at Sol Ring in Commander, or Force of Will, Brainstorm and Wasteland in Legacy - they've made their respective format's completely homogeneous - leading you to believe it's a good thing at a glance. Players would go crazy if any of those cards got banned. But that's the difference, if the Ring was banned, a lot of players would rejoice - which is why it's impact on pushing modern into a more homogeneous format warrants a ban for it, in my opinion. So over all yes, I agree with you, I think the Ring needs to be banned and that energy needs something to be hit (possibly Ocelot Pride?). But I really want everyone to recognise, it's not as simple of a decision as the internet makes it out to be. There's so many layers and consideration to think about before making a decision, and that's just from what we can see - there will be more complexities behind the scenes too. So I just think we should all cut Wizards some slack, and acknowledge that it's not a simple 'the Ring's in 50% of decks, it needs to be banned'. It's more like 'the Rings in 50% of decks, is this homogeneity good and healthy for the format, or bad and warranting a ban?'. I think that's why they haven't hit it yet, so they can decide if it needs to be banned. They should only ban a card if it fully deserves it and is too powerful, not just every card that is very powerful because we want to be able to play with powerful cards. Just hit the ones that are too strong. The Rings not like a Nadu, where it's blatantly warping the meta due to it's pure power, was un-fun to play against whilst they took ages digging through their decks, and clearly deserved a ban. Where as the Ring being played a lot because it's the best source of card advantage in all colours, but not necessarily too powerful of a source - though it might be. So there's a lot of complexity to think about before deciding on whether or not to ban the card. If anything, I'm glad they've taken their time to think about it so they can make an informed decision. I've really enjoyed playing devil's advocate here, and it's inspired me for an idea for a new video to thank you!! It's so interesting seeing different opinions and disagreements etc - I love hearing from you all 💪
I love this format because you can steal wins with a "budget" deck even in ranked. I built a mono black aggro skeletons with an aggressive discard package. It's simple but it just works.
Love it. Sounds fun, especially so close to Halloween 🎃

How would you pilot a heliod list in this meta?
The first question I’d have is why do you want to play the deck? It’s not the best deck right now but is still playable if you want to play it. So, If it’s because you enjoy beat down, I would try energy. If it’s because you enjoy creature based combos, I’d suggest yawgmoth or even naya energy. But if you want to play the because you love the archetype, I’d suggest trying a list like this one - mtgdecks.net/Modern/%E3%83%98%E3%83%AA%E3%82%AA%E3%83%83%E3%83%89%E3%82%AB%E3%83%B3%E3%83%91%E3%83%8B%E3%83%BC-decklist-by-hoshino-kazuki-2237952
Ive been playing with Gruul delirium and its been wiping any midrange decks because i get 2 4/3 scarecrows with haste turn 2 with +1/+0 and double strike, makes for fun turn 3 wins.
That sounds like A LOT of fun!
Amazing content and very very useful information
Glad you enjoyed! 😀
Are there any combo decks in standard?
There’s a few midrange decks with combo finishes but not many good ‘proper’ combo decks. I haven’t seen many whilst doing my research though. If anyone finds any, please let us know here!
Yea mono red is combo of hate, dont-wanna-play-again and fuck-this-deck.
@@ReadyAimFire_ that’s not a combo
@@GetGuudMTGi can think of five decks: 1. Mono Red Leyline with a turn 2 kill with the god hand 2. Golgari Talent (Golgari Midrange with Innkeeper's Talent and Vraska) 3. Dimir Control (with Coveted Falcon and Greed's Gambit) 3. Dimir Control (with Jace and Doomsday Excruciator) 4. Mono Black Demons (with Unstoppable Slasher and Bloodletter of Aclazotz) 4. Any deck that can use Grievous Wounds (or Unstoppable slassher) and an offsprung Vinelasher. One Fabled Passage is lethal.
Love it! There’s loads. But it definitely feels like it’s more of a coincidental combo in an otherwise midrange deck. Not a full on combo deck, just a combo finisher for certain matchups! But they’re my favourite decks!!
ive got a new show and tell deck i made thats just as good. Wins with tendrills and big creatures. 4 dark ritual, 4 thoughtseize, 4 show and tell, 3 omniscience, 1 one with multiverse, 4 brainstorm, 3 impulse, 1 demonic tutor, 1 grim tutor, 1 necrodominance, 4 necropotence, 2 tendrils of agony, 1 atraxa, 4 griselbrand, 4 dig through time, 1 ermakul promised end, 1 emrakul world anew. 17 lands. Can win on turn 2 and every turn after that. Best hand is dark ritual, show and tell, omni, griselbrand/atraxa/dig. This deck lets you play your whole deck and kill them with tendrils easily. And can necro on turn 1 as well. I came up with this deck too, wanting to storm off. Its my fav deck to play in timeless right now. It is maybe tier 1 deck if you dont play against control.
Very interesting! Never seen a deck like that before, could be good?! Soon I’m going to have a ‘User submitted deck’ section where I’ll choose one per a video. Once I set up the form, you should submit this! Sounds fun
@@GetGuudMTG i playin best of one and got to platinum in one day from gold lol playing in best of 1. its very good and beats anyone who cant counter show and tell, basically. once you have omni in play most people just concede there. But i love drawing 14 off gris with omni in play! you cant lose after that happens i find! I will say this though. Fast aggro will beat this deck if you dont mull to a turn 2-3 hand. If you keep a slow cantrip hand vs burn youll die most likely.
This is exactly the video I was searching for ! The quality of the explanation , simple and clear , is great. Easy to watch. Thanks and keep it up, loved it!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad to be of assistance 💪
Dude love your contents
Thanks 💪
Where does mono green eldrazi fall? It would be great if you can make a video about that deck. Thank you
I’ve included it in some of my previous modern videos if you’re looking for some information :) I’d say it’s definitely playable, just outside of the top 10 right now. Close though!
@@GetGuudMTG cool, I'll check it out. Thank you & more power! New subscriber here. :)
🤘
Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Twiddle storm or Glimpse of tomorrow. Those are my go to decks right now.
I love Twiddle Storm!
love smaller creators, keep makin good vids but, are your etsy tokens AI generated art? very good work if not, unethical if they are because it's not disclosed as far as i could see
Glad you like the videos! 😀 No I don't rely on AI generated art to create my finished tokens. However, I do use AI as a tool to to give ideas, speed up my process, provide a starting point, tweak / make difficult parts and optimise designs too. In fact I use it just as much in my videos too - AI is great for speeding things up! For example, in photoshop I use the generative fill tool to expand the artwork of cards so they fit thumbnail dimensions etc. So to be clear no the artwork is not strictly AI generated however, AI is heavily used to help me make the tokens and my videos
But this comment has made me think about, and I think you’re right. It should be clear! I’ve just updated the descriptions to disclose that I use AI as a tool in my arsenal 🤘
It would be great if you wouldn't use cards printed in that terrible frame from outlaws thingy. Looking at the sideboard and seeing Prosperity written, not only means you get thrown off, thinking prosperity is now legal on modern, but it also prevents us from actually knowing what card it is 😢
Agreed they don’t look great! I’ll keep that in mind but I must admit, it’s easy to forget to tweak the card styles when uploading the list to moxfield. I’ll try and remember though!
@@GetGuudMTG Thank you for the reply :) Yes, you just start creating content and can forget the smallest details.
