MFR. Sometime in the late 60s, I attended an All Star Game with my grandparents in Hiram Bithorn stadium, San Juan, Puerto Rico. I was 7 or 8 years of age at the time, and played both basketball and baseball for the local district of Rio Piedras. That evening, we had VIP seating’s on top of the home team dugout near first base. My grandmother brought along her hand radio and sewing knits. After nine innings of play, the game concluded, and the visiting team won the game by two runs - it was tied in the 8th, but the visiting team clocked a homer with one runner on base. After the game was over, players from both teams came over to visit with fans at random signing baseballs and caps - it was hilarious. All of a sudden, my grandparents were chatting with Roberto in uniform. Roberto was signing a ball to my grandmother - she´s a huge fan of Santurce´s Cangrejeros. She personally introduced me to Clemente, while I was holding a huge paper cup of soda, ¨this is my grandson Luisito and he plays ball.¨ To make a story short, Roberto took off his game jersey and signed it, No. 21, ¨To Luisito from his friend Roberto!¨ Needless to say, that same jersey smelled like dog poop, but I relished the moment nonetheless. After some 50 years plus, I have that same jersey today in my studio sealed in wood and glass. I also have in my custody, our grandmother´s ball with Roberto´s signature. It´s not for sale! I also have the privilege of owning a baseball bat, a cap, a pair of cleats and socks, from Roberto with his signature. God is good. My own father explained the incident in great details when Roberto flew to Nicaragua - he was both a fighter and commercial pilot en Isla Grande at the time. Amen.

You have to have some ability. Otherwise, any idiot on roids would be an all star! People give steroids too much credit. At this level of play..you better have the fundamentals down and at a very high level..then you add roids for recovery, healing and SOME (not too much) increa in performance..it’s not a miracle drug..

Maybe those who discriminated against him, and do it about other from the island don't know that the tiny island contributes with billions of dollars to the USA treasury annually, what their countries of origin do not do. The USA Treasury: The recent economic crisis on the island has put a huge dent in the federal tax revenue collected from Puerto Rico, but it still added up to $3.6 billion in fiscal year 2016. That's not much less than some states where residents do pay full income tax: Vermont and Wyoming paid $4.5 billion in federal taxes that year._ Do their country contribute to the USA? We don't think so. Does the USA give anything for free to the island? We don't think so. The island helps support the USA, not the other way around.

As a Puertorican, living in le main island, after 6 years; alot of what Cornell West and Ptr. Luis Gutierres has comed true. Very much reflected in what happend last summer (june and july 2019), with our demand for our governor to resign, and our political strugle with what is happening in the U.S. Now, after 6 years of this conversation in the University of Puerto Rico we still struggle with some of our own determination weather is social, spiritual or economical. But in a sertain perspective the light in the end of the tunnel still shines with this example of theological and social prophesy were we as a sovern nation may say as Martin Luther King did "Free at last! Free at last!! Thank God all mighty we are fee at last!!! " we as a Comonweath are starting 'to see the promise land'

If not for Cesar Chavez,the Mexicans people in the United would have no Union,no benefits,no medical insurance and other benefits he provided for tha farmworkers here in the United States,he was Chicano too.

Puerto Ricans are more United Than Mexicans,I've worked with Puerto Rican people,they show no enviousness,less violent,better to get along with.I'm Chicano.

Clemente is THE greatest player ever look who he defeated on that Yankees team. 5 Hall of Famers like Berra, Ford, Stengal, Maris and Mantel. Pirates only had Clemente and Maz as Hall of Famers. Mays said out of his own mouth Clemente is the Best Player he ever saw next to himself. Clemente was already known as the best right fielder ever. He was called the great one for a reason and broke Bad Bob Gibson leg. Clemente hurt with a come backer Baltimore also had many Hall of Famers as well but Clemente beat them.

I was 9 on New Year's Eve 1972 and remember so well, because HE was my favorite MLB player ! .......so tragic .

The Great One accolade given to him I believe in Pittsburg , is about the correct one , he had to deal not only with the fact that he was black , he was black hispanic and the constant mocking from the sport writers , and still when he took that field it was artistry in motion to all of us that had the honor to see this extraordinary human being and I say human being and not player because even bigger than life out of the field with the poor , the marginalized and all of those in need , to the point that he was aware the day of his tragic day that something bad was going to happen but he still said I am going on that plane and I will make sure that this aid gets to the people that is intended for the poor that lost all on that terrible earthquake in Managua, his last act of compassion , and we have a saying in Puerto Rico , that goes , He was so great of a human being that even the Ocean kept him for her on his hometown because the airport in PR is in his hometown, yes it has been many years since his death shattered many lives to include mine at 11 years old playing little league that even today I see all this documentaries and tears still comes out of my eyes just remembering the news on that fateful night .
