This was the last night we showed Lawrence of Arabia. At the same time as I ran the film through the projectors. I rewound the film to the core and packed the rolls into the tin cans.

test run of the locomotive The Rocket, but the two new passenger wagons. even though the engine is filled with a lot of nuts as a counterweight and a 50g weight at the chimney even so slips it. probably because the the plastic has low friction against the rails. have to figure out where to do

trial run of two carriages to the rocket but it turned out that despite the weight on the locomotive as it spin. so there will be increase of more weights.

Very nice! I have 3 or 4 3D printers, and I need to take advantage of that. Eight years later and your video shows up. I guess you figured out the slip problem by now. A dado or recess printed into the wheels to allow traction tires (rubberbands) or Bullfrog Snot to be applied.

I always wanted to do this as a job. Did it in school for free. I managed to do one of my childhood dream jobs. This would be the one I didn't get to do. The other was work in the VIDEO TAPE BUSINESS. And I did. Everything from working at a privately owned Video store way back in the beginning, renting and selling Machines and Movies to working at the duplication plant. Then also capturing and editing functions from Weddnings, Baptism to Corporate videos. But loved asking the manager for tours of the projection booth. I can watch this video's all day. And I basically do. I never get bored of these for some reason. Going to visit a local theatre that does 35 MM Fridays and ask for a tour. - Toronto, Canada.
Loving films as a child I began to piece together what the dot in the top right corner of the film represented and would often look back at the windows to see the switch. I was very young like 5 or 6 and mentioned it to the adults who never noticed it. I explained that's why there are two windows at the back of the theatre. I really do hope film comes back again. Just like Albums have, I hope the same for film. Thanks for this, I am finding myself watching many of these video's and finding both enjoyable, magical and relaxing. - Toronto, Ontario.

thank you for this. i salute anyone that can run 70mm. I run 35mm here at home and with DTS. I did not get to see your audio rack there. I saw a remote and it looks like it might be a CP65. I was also curious to see what DTS player you were using.

I have always been interested in film 🎥 l must admit I prefer film too digital all the different formats and lenses and how the film Hollywood studios had their different versions 😊and the colour so vibrant 😊
It's interesting they ship on cores these days. I my day they shipped 70mm on shipping reels in individual cases. DP70 (AAII in the US) is the Cadillac of projectors.

What a beautiful cinema! I love the fireplace in the foyer. So welcoming! Lovely to see 70mm projected with such care and presentation. I miss film, I know these days its not viable to do it with most movies when digital is so convenient, but when you get something this special, this just makes it perfect.
I love the how the change over went that's real cinema and DTS sound o yea !!!! and no gray bars on the screen I wish they only had this kind of care in showing movies the Digital Cinema is gonna kill the movie theaters because you get nothing magical with it and there is no care put in the presentation I quit going to the movie because its not that good at all with digital its just a phone are a tv with a blurry picture
Hej! Kul att du delar! Jag har två frågor. Varför projiceras ni bilden för stort på Rigoletto? Duken är 2.35:1 och bilden fyller ut hela bredden, men 70mm 5-perf är ju 2.20:1 om den inte är anamorfisk? Satt längst bak på balkongen på min visning och man kunde se bild projiceras i taket. Har ni funderat på att göra en retrofitting av ett 35mm non-rewind-system för att stödja 70mm? Har Filmstaden kvar några non-rewind-bord? Har sett många maskinister här på TH-cam (i USA primärt) som gjort det. Då skulle man man blir av med skarvande aktbyten (som tyvärr var väldigt synliga när jag såg Oppenheimer), och mindre jobb under visningen i maskinrummet förstås. Ha det bra!
Hej korviugn Här kommer någon typ av förklaring. Rigoletto har nära nog en TODD duk på 2,2:1. Som du nog känner till så är det skillnad på hur man visar analog resp. digital bild. Analog bild från 35 och 70 mm har luddiga kanter medan digital har en knivskarp kant så där behövs i princip inga svarta masker. Att det lyser på vissa ställen i taket på balkong är faktiskt lite trist. Men hänger ihop med att det måste vara lite större bild än vad dukmasken är för att det skall bli snyggt med en svart ram runt om. Att det kommer lite på balkongtaket hänger då ihop med lokalen utformning och att vi vill naturligtvis ha en så stor och pampig bild på duken som möjligt. Att ha två st filmprojektorer som DP 70 är en lyx som få biografen i världen nu mer har tillgång till. Det allra flest slängde ut en om inte bägge för att få plats med digitalprojen. Vi kör detta format ganska få gånger under en 2 till 3 års period så en talrik skulle vara mer i vägen över tid. Med två projektorer så är vi mer flexibla . Vad gäller skiften så är det i det flesta fall ingen som märker det. Detta är ju inget nytt så har man ju gjort i årtionden. Men visst de kan ju hända att man tappar något skift eller att det kan bli en kvarts bild. Men alla vi som jobbar med detta är på tå för att få till en perfekt föreställning. Vi har ju kört så sedan 2015 med Hateful 8, Dunkirk osv utan några bekymmer. Men på Oppenheimer var några av skiften lite knepiga ljud mässigt. Välkommen nästa gång vi får någon ny 70mm

Ja det har nog för mig blivit en preferens för mig, jag växte upp och jobbade på en småstadsbiograf som körde med ett non-rewind system så att se projiceringar med 2 projektorer har jag gjort väldigt sällan, kanske 10 gånger i mitt liv och då är det nog mer yrkesskada från min sida, mina vänner reagerade inte på det. Sen har jag ju märkt det även på digitala visningar att titlecards kapas av i bilden så kan ju också vara dålig av filmskaparna att inte ha mer marginal för det. Sen är jag väldigt imponerad att allt lyckas synka med projektorerna, ljudet och digitala projektorn för textningen(?). Hade nog haft konstant panik under föreställningarna att något skulle sluta funka!
Man, seeing 2 more DP70s out there with the mag heads still in them running DTS with the reader mounted where the fire rollers used to be makes me so happy. Exactly how ours are set up. For what its worth, we thread using the constant motion for the mag head, as well as the tension roller in it (as an idler) before dropping down to the 1st constant motion for 35mm optical, it better distributes load between the sprockets.
How old IS this video??? 2017??? 70mm film was first used in the late 70s along with continuous -film platter systems that required only a single projector per auditorium. With that, a single film could be played in multiple auditoriums simply by threading the film thru multiple projectors. All of that reduced tha amount of manual labor required in the projection booth, reducing the number of projectionists required from 1 per auditorium to one for the entire multiplex! Not to mention (but I will) the reduced wear and tear on the film prints (especially the more expensive 70mm films).So why hasn't this theater been upgraded?

Tack för det. För oss som jobbar i maskinrummet med detta är det en stor skillnad, mycket handpåläggning. Rigoletto har ju en stor duk passande detta format, biografen byggdes 1939.

Is this the real silver film? Or the film is re-printed digitaly? Other wise how do they add digital seens like Intersteller did!? 🤔

I am surprised and impressed to see big film is still alive and delighting audiences throughout the world. At 5:19 you can see the FotoKem slate and Kodak Laboratory Aim Density chart, starring Marcie the color reference girl. FotoKem is one of the few labs on the planet that can still produce a theatrical film print. A little research turns up that they purchased a Celco Fury film recorder in 2003. To the best of my knowledge, only a CRT film recorder like the Celco can record the full 52.63 mm image width for the 65mm format. This would have been used to print the digital intermediate to 65mm film. This negative would be used to create many 70mm theatrical prints by conventional contact printing. Typically, film is always wound emulsion-in. I'm a little surprised that the projectionist chose to twist the film to make marks on the emulsion side. Also, maybe emulsion out projects slightly sharper on screen.

The video is great. But why on earth does the prjectionist have to draw the markings for "the change" himself? Since when does the copying plant no longer do this? That's so ridiculous.
Adding "extra" cue marks on the film, when these are printed on at the lab is considered poor projectionist technique. He also seems to be mixing emulsion-in with emulsion-out handling, by using S-winds at 4:50 and 6:43, while visible running straight-over in the projector at 10:08. Adding "extra" labels at 4:43 is considered poor projectionist technique, particularly in that the print is brand new, and is already perfectly labeled. These are textbook examples of why filmprints looked so bad after rumnning through your local movie house for only a few weeks.

So gratifying to see a professional projectionist with all those mad switches etc and clutter behind the scenes working his magic to the audience with great tabs ( curtains and lighting) and checking the focus and framing on the changeovers..I miss it !!
Thanks . I have been part time projectionist since 1971. I still have the opportunity to be part of this. When a 70mm copy appears in our theatre. It is true that it is a certain feeling to be able to run an analog performance completely manually. So one wonders if there will be any more 70mm copies for our cinema in the future.

What happens if accidently something went wrong with film before devloping??

Som liten var jag ibland uppe i maskinrummet till Bio-Pony här i Dalsbruk. På den tiden fanns där två projektorer med bågljuslampor. På 90-talet kom en projektor som klarade av en helaftonfilm utan omladdning. Den har dessutom xenon lampa. H. Stig Österberg från Dalsbruk i Finland.
Kul Sitg. Ja det där lilla rummet längst bak. Väggen med ett antal små gluggar där ljuset kom ifrån har alltid fascinerat mig som barn och det har hållit isig. Började köra 71 också med 2 projektorer med bågljus. Det var kul så länge det varade fram till digitaliaeringen. Men det har varit kul att få vara med på denna 70mm resa.
@@utjtrain1376 Om jag inte misstar mig. Den första biofilmen jag såg på Bio-Pony i Dalsbruk var "Vi på Saltkråkan". Det var en föga angenäm upplevelse. Kom ut ur salongen med ett tuggummi, stort som en tumme inklätat i håret. Det blev att ta till sax för att bli av med otyget. Jag gav trots det inte upp mitt intresse för film. Favoriterna var 50-talets finska komedier. En del av dessa finns på TH-cam. Sök "Pekka Puupää ja Pätkä" (Kalle Träskalle och Stumpen).

What is this film called?
This movie is called in the original language Gung Ho! in Swedish it became, Attack in the jungle! Premiere 1943. But my copy is from 1961 so it is a safety copy.

why use a digital projector to run subtitles but use film? why not do the whole thing on digital
I was projectionist for many years. I worked on Century 35/70, Cinemeccanica Victoria X, and many other projectors. I was lacing the film in such a way that the upper reel always rotated clockwise with the emulsion side was towards the gate. When watching on TH-cam, I see almost all places in the USA, the upper reel rotates anti-clockwise. My question is what direction of film copy is laced in the gate, emulsion toward the gate or shiny side toward the gate. I was working in Israel for 20 years. Thanks for your kind input.
Joker was shot on an alexa 65 camera which has a resolution of 6.5k, on the other hand Todd-AO 70mm film has a resolution of 8k so seeing this movie on this format still has an advantage.
I think - with about 95% certainty - it was actually shot on the Sony Venice-2 (8k). Besides, if the original material was shot in a lower resolution than it's being scanned at, the scanning would add no extra detail or sharpness as it cannot create what is not there.
That's a job of passion.

When showing undertitles on the digital projector -- how do You avoid stray light, destroying the contrast in picture ?
Good question, Since we started with these new 70mm screening that started with Tarantino's H8. We have used a bit cardboard in the projection window, and cut out a small rectangle so only the text reaches the screen. In this case, the rest of the image is unaffected by light from the digital projector.

I would also like to be able to show it. But due to the pandemic that summer when Tenet was released, our cinema Rigolett was closed. Which was very sad for us who wanted to work with Tenet as a 70mm film.
What happens to the reels when the film is done being shown?
The copy we showed on Rigoletto has the film company decided to deposit at the Swedish Film Institute, fortunately.
