    I'm new to this type of filter. So please forgive me if I sou d dumb. With this filter, you no longer need the other ones that hang on the back of the tank. Is that correct?

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh วันที่ผ่านมา

      No worries! Yes, you are right - hang on the back (HOB) or canister filters are both effective. Typically, canister filters like this are chosen so that the tank appearance is cleaner (less stuff on it). Amongst other benefits like being quieter, they allow you to more easily customize different media inside which can be great for specific setups and needs. Thanks for watching and keep asking questions! :)

    My check valve is definitely too far from my diffuser. What placement do you recommend for hang on back filtered tanks? I have my diffuser at the bottom middle of one side of my tank. I have two filters running on either end of a 40 breeder. Is there a better place than this?

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      👋! Set the diffuser about 2” back off the top rim and you should be good. That’s my go-to placement on multiple tanks and have had no problems. Too low (like the bottom of the tank) has resulted in the gas not effectively making it to the diffuser in my experience.

    Why do you want to get rid of tannins. They're beautiful and beneficial to fish and other animals.

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re definitely not wrong! They are beneficial and we do have some Catappa leaves bringing a nice color to a riverbed set up also in our studio. But some people don’t care for that look and want a more clear-water pristine aquarium. So just providing a path to get there if that’s what someone would prefer.

      @@BRSfresh It's a shame ppl don't make the top priority the benefit of the fish.

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There’s no doubt that can be the case on a number of levels. Wrong tank size or tank mates. Over-feeding and over-crowding. Not doing water changes and properly medicating/quarantining. Not paying attention to pH and water parameters as well as temperature. However a tank without tannins can still be a very healthy environment for our inhabitants. But maybe we disagree? Either way, thanks for your perspective!

    Have you have seen rotala orange juice grow horizontaly? I never had until one day I noticed it doing so in my 40 gal guppy fry tank. I let it go and it has now made a complete run around the perimeter of the tank.

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      👋 Pretty common for OJ to run the tank. Can happen if not planted densely or if in high light situations. You can try to trim to train it and replanting the cuttings in a more crowded way should help them grow vertically and not quite as vigorously.

    • @jodip719
      @jodip719 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the advice. I actually don't mind it growing in this way in this particular tank. It's producing a ton of stems that I can trim and plant more densely.

    Could you leave the tissue cultures in the containers while submersing them for the first time. The hope is to reduce melt by minimising the transition.

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great question! Based on my experience, while it’s possible to have melting occur as they become accustomed to their new environment, I have never experienced that to any sort of extent that I would feel it’s worth the trouble of an acclimation process. For me, take them out, rinse them off and plant.

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! I think first I would suggest that you do use spider wood if that’s what you’d like to have. The biofilm is easily manageable and not something I would sacrifice what I want just to avoid. That said, my next go to would be any of the driftwoods - Malaysian, Amazon, Pacific. Combine 2-3 pieces of whichever you choose to create something cool. Throw a pack of Seachem Purigen in your filter to deal with the tannins if you don’t want to presoak or boil!

    • @BRSfresh
      @BRSfresh 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      👋! In our experience, the key to making the paper towel or a little ball of cotton work with your gel glue is to make sure that it is completely covered in the glue. When it dries, it is essentially just a hard object and won’t dissolve.
