You are very helpful , could you please do a video on setting up the controllers in third party aircraft ie Flight Factor 767-300 0r 777-200 as I cant get the controllers to do anything once in the pilot seatThanks in advance
Nice job! What program are you using to talk to the sim and is that default atc?
Thanks. I am using PlaneCommand by Lee Baker and for ATC using SayIntentions.AI.
MSFS its really a joke compared with VR controller interaction! But after a few tweaks using secondary and tertiary functions in the controllers, Its coming to be usable, you can see me flying the airbus using the controllers in my channel and you will see that its almost transparent nowadays.
what fps are you getting
I normally get 37 FPS while in VR with the Beyond.
Thanks for telling us about your various settings and hardware again! This really helps for comparison/upgrade planning. Do you use the FlyWithLua 3jFPS12 lua scripts for performance optimization?
No I do not find the need for any performance scripts with the hardware I have.
Hey Sparker, I appreciate your videos and VR contributions over the years!
please use your checklists so you do not run out of fuel in real time
Это Xplane12 .откуда такая графика?? Что за дополнения?? Если есть моды то какие?? Скажите пожалуйста.
What plugin are you using to put the programs inside the VR?
I am using OVR Toolkit and have for many years.
When I click Search it crashes
I've set up a button on my joystick to toggle the VR mouse pointer and another to bring up the settings window. If my VR controllers don't work properly, or stop working, I can get to the settings window and reconfigure my controllers. Normally I run with my mouse pointer turned off, but I can quickly turn it on in cases where I need it.
Can you please make a tutorial video on how to live stream the VR with WEB camera etc. I am using Pico4 with Virtual Desktop and i don't know how can i live stream in OBS. THANKS!!
I do not own a Pico4 so will not be able to do that.
@@sparkerinvr526 Thanks for the reply anyway.
How do you get openxr to be used by X-plane.
Thanks for the video. Im using tbe vr tools plug in.is there anyway to to bind the left right forward backwards up and down to my tca hat switch.moving your seating position using the vr tools arrow keys is painfully slow cheers
You should be able to map these commands to your hat switch. sim/general/left Move view left. sim/general/right Move view right. sim/general/up Move view up. sim/general/down Move view down. sim/general/forward Move view forward. sim/general/backward Move view backward.
For those who are wondering "EFB" stands for "Electronic Flight Bag".
VR definitely needs more love in XP12. Because of this I tend to spend more time in XP11 VR, where controllers work better, graphics are crisper and FPS is higher.
Yeah XP12 is rough for VR use.
how does xp11 compare to msfs performance wise in vr?
I'm a retired software developer. I've also used gdb on Linux to help Laminar debug issues. They appreciated the extra info! I do all my open-source X-Plane development on MacOS and Linux, including compiling plugins for Windows on Linux. If VR had the same performance on Linux, I'd fly VR mostly under Linux instead of Windows. I've noted flatscreen performance seems to be the same between Linux and Windows. Valve needs to improve their Linux VR support.
I hope Laminar is receiving good feedback from VR users during 12.1.0 alpha. Sadly they've been ignoring VR issues, so much so that I typically fly 11.55 far more than I do 12.0.9. I realize VR is a niche market thus far, but a harvest left unattended will wither on the vine.
I am doing my best to bring any issue that I have found while using VR and am being listened to. What I would ask is that when 12.1.0-beta-1 is released we need the whole X-Plane 12 VR community to file any bug you find. I know that some VR things have been fixed but not all but we will have a better sense when the public beta is out in the wild.
Looks like a good accessory. How is the Glare when night flying? Thanks for your vids mate and cheers.
I generally do not fly at night but I am now flying glass cockpits where with my VP2 it was not comfortable. Using the G1000 do not find any glare that would make it hard to read so still not sure what other Beyond users are seeing on this issue.
@@sparkerinvr526 Sounds like the glare is more noticeable when night flying. Maybe try a little night flying and see if you notice this. Thanks mate.
Howdy! Try adding the soft cross-strap to the Beyond audio strap. A couple of small binder clips will keep it from sliding back and forth. I think it makes the audio strap even more comfortable by moving what little weight there is to the top of your head.
That sounds interesting. Do you have a pic so I can see where you put the top strap.
@@sparkerinvr526 Just put it as far forward as you can before interfering with the HMD, roughly ear to ear. You'll see what makes sense. Adding little binder clips really helps keep it in place and makes it super easy to don and doff. You can flip their handles up out of the way. When you get it adjusted just right you really can get to nearly zero face pressure although you'll want a little just to hold the HMD in place.
the strap looks really nice. very excited for my beyond to come in the mail.
Hi I used this tool to find Toliss AirbusFBW Datarefs which are not published and are are not picked up by the Dataref Editor. All the Datarefs you show here are integers or floats and I have had no probs in setiing them from an external program. However many of the AirbusFBW datarefs visibie in the DataRef Tool just say 'activate'. Without knowning what activate means internally, it's hard to enter a program value that changes the Dataref state. Do you have any information perhaps?
If you look at time stamp 09:45 you will see that I am only looking at commands. The activate is to allow you to active that command which will be a command once. If you click on details you will see command press will continuously press the command until released. The other is the same as just using the Actuate button.
@@sparkerinvr526 It's the simulation of "Press" that I am not getting. I need to know WHAT the Lower Ecam on 321Neo fires at the AirbusFBW to change its state. I will write a python-program using the XPlane-NASA Pluging that will be triggered by TouchPortal on a tablet
@@sparkerinvr526 I still dont understand. I want to fire a command to activate from a >>program << using the NASA-plugin. Or is it a toggle simply CRLF or similar? Rgds from Munich

Looks sick! looking like you’re from the future!
Looks great mate, thanks for sharing this. For me, I'll wait for BSB to come out with a more universal, glasses-friendly facial interface with manual IPD adjustment. Also, maybe larger micro-oled panels (curent ones are limited to 1.5in). Of course, a wireless option would also be very nice, lol! The new Pimax headset look promising but still way too big imho. Until then I'll just live with my QPro with Link cable for sims and my Q3 for wireless PCVR using Air Link for everything else. As much as I've love my +4.5yo Vive Pro 1 for night flying (amoled screens, Etsy lens mod, 2x2.0 base stations, and Index controllers), its low res (1600x1400) screens poor clarity and high SDE are now pretty hard to live with so It's starting to collect a bit of dust.
To me, glasses friendly sounds like low FOV, unlike it can be accomodated with different face gaskets. And yes, IPD Adjustment is important.
@@lorsch. shouldn’t significantly effect FOV if properly designed together with adjustable eye relief. As is, BSB is way too restrictive, for me anyway. I’m glad you’re very happy with yours mate. Cheers
Adjustable eye relief goes against the minimalist concept of the BSB, sadly even the bigger headsets these days don't have it. I don't have a BSB, I think the same, and have quite the opposite, a Pimax Crystal ;)
@@lorsch. Ya, minimalistic = too restrictive, for me anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new Pimax Super QLED headset pans out. If everything works as well as advertised I'll probably buy the Pimax Super Qled/Oled combo bundle. I just hope that my i913900k/rtx4090/32Gb 6400ram/z790mb PC is going to be strong enough, lol!

Still enjoying your BigScreen Beyond headset?
Very much so. The reason I now fly glass cockpits is because of the improved resolution of the Beyond. The only thing that I am missing is a better audio solution but there audio strap is on short final and should receive mine in a month or so. Compared to any other headset I have owed or tried this one is the best for how I use VR in flight simulation.
@@sparkerinvr526 Thanks for that mate. I have been looking for a replacement for my +4yo Vive Pro 1 with Etsy Gear VR lens mod and Index controllers. This still works well but because it's only 1600x1400 res, the SDE is a bit too much, even super pampling the heck out of it with a rtx4090. My only concern with the BSB is its restictive facial interface and lack of good audio. I'll prpably wait a while to see if these get improvements/mods. Thanks again mate and cheers.
How do you ad the openxr tag to the command line exactly
In your desktop shortcut Target "E:\X-Plane 12\X-Plane.exe" --open_xr
How do you get that floating window that shows the text file and web browser to show up?
I use OVR Toolkit. There is a link in the description.
Congratulations on the video friend. What do I think about the quality of the bigscreen? Which video card do you use? Thanks
I am very happy with the Beyond coming from a Vive Pro 2. I have a i9 13900K with a RTX 4090.
In VR I've noticed the "home button" at the bottom of the XPAD is sensitive to 3D mouse cursor left button clicks but it is not sensitive to VR controller trigger presses. It's annoying. I added a custom manipulator positioned directly above the home button in my BD-5J aircraft, but that only works for my plane. If I want to click the XPAD home button in any other plane, I have to haul out the 3D mouse cursor.
I also noticed you can't pan and zoom the XPAD display using the 3D mouse. So XPAD interaction is a bizarre combination where you can do certain things with the controllers and certain things with the mouse, but not all with both. I don't remember reporting this issue before so I wrote up a bug report and sent it in. Maybe Laminar will fix it at some point.
Sparker , you have no idea how you help me. I use flight simulators since 1999 and you have a lot more experience than me for sure. I was trying to speed up the radio controls for Toliss A320 and than I saw this video and start tweaking the airplane. Now is working perfectly! thanks for sharing this one. I'm really appreciated
Glad I could help.
By the way, thanks for the heads up on the XP12 changes to the VR config file!
Hey Sparker. Before I invest in a Bigscreen Beyond, I wanted to see what the smaller FOV looked like relative to my Valve Index. So I "PDQ modified" my HeadLamp XPlane plugin to add "blinders" on the edges of my vision matching the documented FOV. The vertical FOV is noticeably tighter, but not too bad! The horizontal FOV is about the same. Does that agree with your experience?
I am coming from a Vive Pro 2 with prescription inserts that I think reduced the FOV. I do not find any issue with the Beyond FOV and if I need I just turn my head. the fact that is so light you barely feel like you are wearing it. I did have to get a updated IPD and facial interface to get to where I am now but very happy now.
@@sparkerinvr526 Yeah, I also currently use prescription inserts with my Index and I'll need to have some added to the Bigscreen in order to use it.
This is awesome man, wow. I am getting into flight sim's and did my discovery flight a few months ago. Do you find this to be easier or more superior (in VR) rather then using physical sim gear? Any tips?
I use a physical yoke and pedals and use VR controllers and voice for all other controls. This allows a very small footprint in my house and also I can change to different planes with no change in hardware. I am a former student pilot with 108 hours in a Cessna 172 and am now learning how to fly more complex aircraft. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I like the bigscreen beyond but there is no possibility for mixed reality and that is a dealbreaker for me.
I waited and saved almost a year for this, and it is just insanely uncomfortable on my right eye socket, no matter how I arrange the head band, carved some right eye piece foam out and it still puts intense strain on the right eye, the left feels awesome, the visuals are great, i just can't play any longer than an hour, the IPD and scanning may leave something to be desired
You need to get with support and they will get it sorted out for you. Are you on the Bigscreen Beyond Discord and did you get a owners role.
@@sparkerinvr526 I've been getting with support for weeks now and all I get is we'll fix you up eventually. No rescan, questions about specific problems the hmd is giving me, just be patient. Well it sure looked like they took my money quick enough. It's like sitting in the wind, quite unpleasant and unfair.

This headset must be so comfortable, I'm a Quest2 and now 3 user, and Its almost impossible to be more than 1h inside the headset
Yes it is very comfortable and so much better in many ways than the Vive Pro 2 that it replaced.
Thanks for sharing your unboxing experience! It's great to see your enthusiasm. Videos like these are awesome!
In my setup, I have fashioned two small flat wooden platforms on either side of my wooden swivel chair to support my HOTAS. At the back of these platforms, I placed two small hooks. I fastened tie wraps to the bottom of my Valve Index VR controllers to form a loop which can grab these hooks. So I use muscle memory to take my VR controllers off the hooks and put them back when they aren't needed. This allows me to switch my grasp easily between HOTAS and VR controllers.
can you use it without base stations and use 3 degrees of freedom instead of 6? i wanna play sim racing so ill be sitting and only moving my head around and not my whole body
It is a SteamVR headsets and needs base stations to work.
Yea u can do with 1 if ur just sitting

Have you tried it with DCS and IL2 Sturmovik? Please tell me, how many fps do you achieve and if the objectives are seen well in the distance, what resolution do you have at 90 fps, can you compare it with the Varjo?
I do not own either of those titles. I am a plugin developer for X-Plane so spend most of my time there. I also have MSFS but currently the VR controller support does not meet my expectations.
Since I have a issue with my IPD I am reserving judgement till that is resolved. On X-Plane 12.0.8b3 I was getting 37 FPS at 75hz and seemed quite smooth. I do not own a Aero.

Another question, how do you display your desktop and pilot2atc window inside VR? Always so annoying to take off the headset to access other apps. Searched the web for it and found something about OXR Toolkit, but I don't think that's what you're using. Thank!
I am using OVR Toolkit to bring in the desktop and individual windows into the VR space.
@@sparkerinvr526 Thanks! Is OVRTK working (again) with current XP12?
@@jorn-jorenjorenson5028 OVR Toolkit is for VR overlays. OpenXR Toolkit is support for OpenXR which is not yet supported in X-Plane 12.
@@sparkerinvr526 Oh, stupid me... OpenVR Toolkit, OpenXR Toolkit, OpenXR Tools, OpenVR, OpenXR, OpenXR runtime, SteamVR, SteamVR for WMR, WMR, this VR mess is still going over my head. Anyway, will keep trying to understand some day what each of that is doing. Hopefully it all will be simplified before. : D Will try OVRTK with my G2 next XP12 session, thanks again. : )
Very interesting, thanks again! I wonder, with 24GB VRAM, why are you having XP's texture quality "only" on high? If I'm not totally wrong, it shouldn't make a difference in performance, only VRAM usage.
I will have to look at that and see if I could increase the texture quality.
@@sparkerinvr526 It shouldn't decrease your performance, but give you even more clarity in the cockpit. At least in theory. : )
Have you tried using this setup with XP11? I have found the performance of XP11 is almost twice as fast as XP12 in VR.
Yes I did spend some time in XP11 and the performance is much better but it is missing so many features that XP12 has and I have grown to enjoy. If I have enough performance than I am very happy with that. Because my Vive Pro 2 I would run at 90hz I would get 45 FPS most of the time. The Beyond I am running at 75hz and get 37 FPS most of the time and very happy with that.
