PC Engine here in the uk. Like with Megadrives we somehow used the correct name.
The latest games over 90 MB
99,800 yin… crazy work. Over 640 bucks for a handheld in the 90s is wild.
was that the kid from "Stranger Things" in the commercial? @ 16ish
The games cost £150, 30 years ago, could never afford such a machine, just looked it up £600 in 2017 so even more today
Gotta love the bee!
I wanted the Neo Geo so bad as a kid, but it was too expensive. But I did eventually get the Neo Geo CD and for a brief moment in time I felt like the coolest kid alive. Even though I only ever had I think three games total for it, and unfortunately no local video stores rented Neo Geo CD games so I didn’t get to play a variety on it
I had one of those and I loved it.
I remember when I was in the Army, I had just bought a SNES . I couldn't believe the NEO GEO was so expensive. The graphics were great, and I knew I could never own such hardware, let alone a game. That was like the holy grail. Even to this day, I can't afford one, and I've never seen one in my life. It's just a system I've always read about and now watch video history.
Very cool video but why are you showing Street Fighter 2?
Did that dude wearing the kilt just shot a fireball through sinep???😅😅😅😂😂😂
In Japan, the NeoGeo AES released as a “rental unit” at the same time as when the MVS released. It didn’t get the actual console treatment until it’s true launch: January 31, 1990. In the USA, the NeoGeo AES actually released October 25, 1990 as an exclusive pre-order from magazines (or ordering at specific retailers like Babbage’s, Toys-R-Us, etc.), and a blink-or-you’ll miss it commercial that aired on MTV at 3:00 A.M. After all that didn’t work, the AES didn’t actually release (actually became available on select few store shelves) until July 7, 1991. In Europe, it didn’t release to any of that fanfare in 1991-it just released there. Brazil didn’t even get that system until 1992 (cabinets came out in Blue over there). All AES manuals from the launch of the NeoGeo, if you turn to the end of it: there is a section that talks about the memory card. There, it calls the NeoGeo a “Rental System” and not “Home System” until after the fact.
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones my favorite game
These videos are a master class of quality. I used to watch Newsmakers Games but found it to be childish and his constant attempt at trying to be funny was just too cringe.
Thanks so much for the kind words. We’ve got many more in the pipeline…
@@ThePixelPlayback Very excited for more!!
The “pie factory” is actually the last level not the second.
I never seen one for sale out in the wild. All i saw was gaming magazines with them for sale and they were ridiculously priced. Games were like 100 dollars too. But it was true arcade at home until dreamcast came around.
Overall good video, but, GoldenEye Zero Zero Seven? Humans normally say Double-Oh Seven.
There's a crucial error in the video. The TurboGrafx-CD was actually released November 1989 with two games, Fighting Street and Monster Lair, with Ys Books 1&2 releasing later in the year. The TGCD being hugely expensive AND releasing so soon after the TG16 itself played a massive part in painting the public perception that the TG16 was an expensive console and not as good a value as the NES and Genesis.
My uncle bought my cousin one of these for Christmas one year and my other cousin got mad he didn't get something that cool
Things to add for an update... the release of the BigPEmu software-based emulator that expands the emulator used in the Atari 50 product... as well as the introduction of an Atari Jaguar core for the MiSTer FPGA project bringing Jaguar into FPGA and in the hands of the tens of thousands of MiSTer user. I have to wonder though, is this video a creation of A.I.?
If you are going to tell me JAGUAR is 16 - Bit , Then you are a GOOBER
The Ross Perot console!
One of the "luxury consoles" of the period! Like the CD-I and Neo Geo and maybe the Atari Jaguar. I think the fourth gen was the only gen to have luxury consoles that were significantly above and beyond the main consoles (SNES/GEN/TG-16)
Hey PlayStation CAN NOT COMPARE too 3DO
The worst mistake of the TG-16 is its crappy two button controller. They had no vision of what would happen in video game development.
I remember in 1991 stores clearancing out Turbo games. Games were on sale for $10. I bought a bunch Dungeon Explorer Legendary Axe 1 and 2 Bonk 1 and Ninja Spirit Splatterhous and more. I have no nostalgia for the system. Most of the games were a one and done experience. They were short and shallow. No pass codes or battery saves hurt the system.
Great video!
Naming their consoles after big cats didn't work out for Atari. I love the screen on the Lynx.
Is this AI?
It's a shame that so many bugs made it into the final chips as they were otherwise innovative and powerful. And a shame the 68000 was added to the design as it allowed developers to publish games that used only a fraction of the system's potential.
It's rarely mentioned that the reason the CD add-on was comprised of two components was so you could use the CD part as a portable CD player.
I used to spend hours playing Military Madness. Was like a chess game using army vehicles.
Great video and congratulations on the channel you got a new subscriber. Could you do a video on Bleem?
So Mario wasn't Mario yet he was called Jumpman then he was named Mario when later games came out like Mario Bros
A friend of mine had one of these it was so good, everything was years ahead of its time but it was insanely over priced so much so that he really didn't have many games on it and the library of games we had on my SNES was just so much bigger that despite how impressive the Neo Geo was, it was seldom used over my SNES. My friend even traded his in eventually for a SNES and a Mega Drive because even though his family had money, he could purchase 4 or 5 games on those systems for the cost of one game on the Neo Geo. It was a good luxury high end machine but it wasn't worth the cost overall.
This video is full of inaccuracies
Ironically, both Mario and Donkey Kong now have two reptilian archenemies: Bowser and King K. Rool
AI narration?
I never realized Donkey Kong introduced jumping over hazards and gaps! No wonder it inspired scrolling stages too!
Great video, well made and overall really nice to watch. Looking forward to more of these.
Thanks so much for the kind words! We put a lot of work into these vids, so hearing that means a lot. There’s lots more vids in the pipeline too.
Minor correction, the "2" after the CDROM unit was meant to be pronounced "CD ROM ROM" not "CD ROM 2"
Appreciate the feedback. Thanks
Been a Donkey Kong fan since I first played it in 1981. Thanks for making this video. Where can one purchase an original Donkey Kong game cabinet with the original game board from a reputable seller?
As a kid I had 2 spoiled brats in my neighborhood. 1 had a neo geo, the other had a jaguar...good times, good times.
That’s Joe Keery from stranger things in that 90s commercial lol
I used to love SNK fighting games, my buddies and I bought all KOF, real bout fatal fury/Garou as well as The last blade together and since we share all the cost equally among us, everything became quite affordable and it's well worth the money because we could battle each others whenever we want throughout the year. One of my buddies owned a game shop and we hosted gaming party at his shop few times a week, sometimes his VIP customers joined us for a private tournaments and the losing team had to do all sort of silly punishments and pay for pizzas etc., it was so much fun back then.
Whenever trouble hits Nintendo, they always clutch it right before the brink of bankruptcy
Im not really a fighting gamer but I always thought the new geo was cool. I especially love metal slug. I have the whole collection on the Xbox now
I never got good at the original Donkey Kong but it's a cool game
This was my first purchase console from my first job. I saved money and bought it along three other games. Wish I still had but nostalgia will suffice.
