    Sanctification ceases with death of the body. In heaven we will not have a physical body. This will only materialise at the resurrection on the last day. The believer in heaven, in the intermediate state, will be no more perfect than he is now, in Christ!

  • @TruthHasSpoken

    *Best part of the debate:* when JW admitted, reluctantly, having danced around the answer, that final sanctification occurrs between death and heaven. VERY Catholic! That's what Catholic's teach in part about purgatory. JW AGREED with the Pope that we are transformed with a "transforming encounter with Christ." The problem with JW is he has taken a Catholic book, the bible, and has decapitated it from the faith from which it came, believing based on a 16th c man-made doctrine of sola scripture that he has the authority to interpret on his own.

    The Roman Catholic Church assembled the Holy Bible from around 200 existing Books of the day in 325 AD. Constantine the Great called the First Council of Nicaea, which was composed of three hundred religious leaders. Three centuries after Jesus lived; this council was given the task of separating divinely inspired writings from those of questionable origin. Those questionable existing books were tossed aside as having doubtful authenticity or not Gospel Truth. Pope Damasus I, known as Damasus of Rome, was the bishop of Rome from October 366 to his death. He presided over the Council of Rome of 382 which determined the canon or official list of sacred scripture. He spoke out against major heresies, thus solidifying the faith of the Catholic Church, and encouraged the production of the Vulgate Bible with his support for Jerome. Then the Catholic Church confirmed the Canon as OFFICIAL. So what were the “Sola Scriptura” people reading before 325 AD? It was NOT the Bible, it did not exist yet! BTW… Neither did those people exist until after 1517! The Catholic Church is the only authority that guarantees the accuracy and inerrancy of the Bible itself. It was the Catholic Church that selected the books of the New Testament and defined the canon of the Bible. Those who believe that the Bible is reliable, are in fact relying on the Catholic Church’s testimony that the New Testament books accurately reflect the faith & teachings of the Apostles, which is in turn grounded in the faith & teachings of Christ. There were many other writings available that were NOT selected to be a part of the Bible because their contents were flawed in some way. The Church itself made the selection many years after the death of the Apostles, based on its living witness to the Faith, guaranteed by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is the same church that through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, decided what would compose the New Testament after living the faith for longer than America has been a country. Protestants don’t believe in Scripture; they believe in anti-Catholicism.

    So White did 6 debates on this subject and he still cant address the core Catholic claim that is the whole premise of our rejection of Sola Scriptura? "The Catholic Church has never defined a single word by Jesus that is found outside of Scripture", he argues. Duh, this only proves that Catholicism is faithful to Scripture and our whole point is that Scripture itself has been defined by the Catholic Church in the first place! Its boring to hear his arguments because he never addresses the premise of his opponent. Unless he tells me where else Scripture came from Im simply not convinced by anything else he says.

    Wow… I really do respect Jimmy Akin.. a lot, I believe him to be a GREAT debater.. one of the best for the catholic position and I would never discredit him or his work. Nonetheless I believe James won this debate. The “Overload” tactic referred to by Jimmy throwing away All of James rebuttals to a curb and then to and then proceed with his slide show I believe to be un-charitable.. it’s almost like deflecting and then just doing what you want! The truth of the matter was that it’s Catholic Answers who stated they wanted the rebuttal periods to be of that time. So it’s not like James got to pick that short time of a rebuttal period Catholic Answers did! I feel like I’d have loved to see Jimmy at least respond to one! To disregard it all and then proceed with whatever he wanted didn’t seem right!! Nonetheless I don’t want any of my Catholics to think I didn’t like Jimmy .. I just think we should take a honest approach and..I believe for that same reason on top of the play on words .. claiming James to not define words etc. but great debate by both. Jimmy is excellent when it comes to cross fire. And honestly I wouldn’t have no other people debate on this topic except for these two! Excellent debaters but I believe James won..

    I wish that Sola Scriptura worked, because it does sound convincing...but it evidently does not work...protestants cannot agree on much....even a basic sacraments like baptism...some sprinkle, some immerse, some believe it regenerates, some think it is only symbolic...some believe babies should be baptised, some don't...abd the solution is to break off and form a new church. The protestant principal.

When the Roman church completely collapses into liberalism, you'll see Akin and other Roman cult apologists out there arguing this is what they've always taught and believed. I'm sure they will join hands with all the heretical so-called protestants and sing kumbaya all the way to hell. May God have mercy and save some of them.

    I agree with James White that we know what Jesus and the Apostles TAUGHT by reading the New Testament. But we cannot know what Jesus and the Apostles MEANT by reading the New Testament. To know what Jesus and the Apostles MEANT, we need a continuing, authoritative, interpreting/teaching office, which the Catholic Church calls the Magisterium (meaning Teacher). Do Jesus and the Apostles want us to know what they MEANT by what they taught and wrote? Or, did Jesus and the Apostles want us to disagree about authority, salvation, justification, etc.? If Jesus and the Apostles want us to agree with one another on these important teachings, then it seems likely that they would have instituted an authoritative, interpreting/teaching office to that end. One more question, where in Scripture does it teach Sola Scriptura? If Scripture does not explicitly teach this doctrine, then we are relying on post-Apostolic authorities to interpret the Scriptures to teach that. We would all like to have a good answer to that question.

    A lot of people don’t like James White…. Considering he’s been the biggest proponent to the catholic faith coming from the Protestant side (when it comes to debates) for the last 30+ years… nonetheless I feel as though there’s some distastefulness for James white and a lot of people undermine this man’s work.. or his skill as a debater. Jimmy Akin is a GREAT debater.. but James is as well. I just pray that we can appreciate these moments!

    • @TruthHasSpoken
      @TruthHasSpoken 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      James only has his interpretation of scripture and there are reasonable understandings of scripture that differ from his, not only from Catholics, but Orthodox, Lutherans, and other protestants. JW can only go back to and reread scripture and his fallible interpretation of it as there is no authority in the Church of James to decide who is right. He has taken the bible and has decapitated it from the faith from which it came, based on the 16th c man-made invention of sola scriptura and the teaching of a Catholic lawyer named Calvin. The result is much doctrinal chaos, confusion, and division from both Catholicism and in many cases from the rest of Christianity.
