Scraps! My system. Assessing fabric chunks, what sizes to cut them and how to store them!
In this video, I go into more detail about how I cut up my scraps, my thought process, how I store them and what I do with them!
If you want more information on cutting and organizing your scraps, I highly recommend @quiltingwithlori and her scrap cutting system. She also has a couple books out explaining her system and giving you patterns to make with your 'now pre-cut' fabrics! Speedy Solutions to Cut and Organize Your Scrap Stash
The frame I use for the placemat loom and my rug loom are from the book Rugs from Rags by Country Threads.

      @@twistedcreekstitches0773 For blocks I cut 10", 8", 5", 4 1/2", 3 1/2", 2 1/2" and 1 1/2". Then for strips I cut 2 1/2". Strips smaller than that go in another bin. If they are thinner than 3/4", they go into the 'stuffing' bag. If strips are smaller than about 2 inches in length, they go in my crumb bags. For the most part. I sometimes end up with slightly bigger pieces in the crumb bag too. Weirdly angled pieces also go in the crumb bag. Those have actually been interesting to work with. I've been putting triangles (like the triangles cut off from sewing binding together), in a separate container which I'll be examining at some point in my lifetime.

    Good morning and happy Wednesday! My goodness, you got a lot of sewing done! That is one gorgeous table topper with the little mini quilt blocks in it. You never would have found one to buy that had the little notch for the lamp, let alone one that's so stunning. Love the tans & browns you chose, with just enough cream to make the blocks pop against the black background. Great use of scraps for sure., and of course it'll coordinate beautifully with the original project. Speaking of which, using different quilt stitches in different areas of the runner was a terrific plan; really adds some great visual texture to the finished project. Well, let's face it - all the projects in this video are lovely. I don't know how you manage to find the time to do them all! I guess ten minutes here, 30 minutes there really add up.

    Minki Kim is great! I used her bowl cozy pattern to make my first cozies. I've been looking at her stuff and been thinking of making more of her patterns. I've been curious about her panels, so I'm excited to see how yours turns out. Sewers Club has a very similar clamshell bag if you want to follow a different pattern too. I'm also liking your projects and I think it was a good idea swapping the colours, I assume it was a pattern misprint because I can't see the only pop of colour being in the center.

    Your Christmas projects all look great but your parrots look fantastic. I love how you did the applique on, it really elevates the quilt. I'm also more excited to see your Mexican Stars project come together, I am super curious about it. I've made a set of mug rugs out of some crumb pieces and finished last years temp quilt top. Now I just need to iron it, trim any excess threads, find or make the backing and bring it to my local long armer. For the tiny pieces, I too collect them and since my house is drafty, I've made door draft stoppers and plan to make more and gift them in my Buy Nothing Group. I baste scrap batting, (I used the scrap from my quilt as you go projects), and ugly fabric i'll never use together and turn them into a tube with one side open. The I stuff it full using the little bits and bobs, then I close the side up when it's full. I then shove that tube into another fabric tube that matches my home decor. I've made one and a half with the pieces from last year. They're dense and weighty enough to stay in place.

      @lizwarnke4689 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@fredmakesthings What a great idea for the tiny pieces! I'll keep saving them up. I might use them first to make a long cat bed for the shelf that my cats lay on. I have one shelf that I left empty for them above my crafting table and they lounge up there and watch me. However I only have it covered with some towels right now, which they are constantly crumpling up and discombobulating. We can definitely use more door draft stoppers too!

    I've made Mexican Stars twice, as well as other Southwind patterns. The piecing is simple though "odd"-- you incorporate folded triangles into the seams. When the top is complete, the bias folds are turned back to form curves. This is the part where most people get bogged down. It's not hard; just tedious. It's a new experience, and you'll love the finished quilt.
