Let's be clear about this -- this lot is NOT where Janis Joplin once lived. No one actually knows the address of where she lived; it's all just rumor and speculation. Supposedly she lived for a time in a big house at the corner of 32nd and Guadalupe, and then later at a house NEAR where this video was shot (but possibly up to several blocks away from here). No one knows for sure, certainly not the guy shooting this terrible, rambling, unsteady video.

I use to live there in the late 80's-90's. I did hear Janis lived there for a few months. I went to the local library to find out historical information on the place because there were some disturbing haunting events happening there. In my research I found that people had died there. An old woman fell down the the basement steps and died. I heard a couple was killed there during a robbery in the seventies. Whatever was there hated me singing thats for sure.

Janet wasn't a mason give her break it's to insult her, she was murdered and not a overdose , she rejected those in evil and went for help she was murdered and was offered something great from a producers who was non controlled , don't ad injury to her death by insults or her singing , no one knows what they did to get or Jerry Garcia , she fighting against things on the orhets, she is with Jesus, fighting hard with many others , sorry but this is a disrespect to her, the girl didn't wear no make if hardly ever , she was naturally pretty ,she actually could sing and sung from the heart, she actually was a caring person, very sweet in nature, inside but she had to fight because io it, very down to earth person and abused by several men , she went for addiction and emotional help to someone she knew for long time and didn't make ,she was murdered, her friend was right she didn't die of overdose, very jealous person,people , what they did was pure evil, I know she isn't happy with site, it's ugly and it's mocks her true talent and just gives her enemy's a laugh that got away with it. by thanks for putting it posted on TH-cam am sure it will all be removed as it is Janet's wish ,creators will make something that's stands there much more nicer then the insult in her home town allowed to be put up, by the way Janet was a good artist, she was more intelligent then most people knew but she was gentle flower, ugly tribute to this women I ever seen, disgrace

Thanks so much for making and posting this video! It's incredible. Very beautiful, gritty, and wild! A community vegetable garden would be great! I wish the owners whoever they are would at least allow the community to clear it of weeds and make gardens.

I lived at the top of the hill at 1112 w 10th street (upper left) on the dead in alley from 1983-1989. What you are looking at is the remains of the foundation from these condos which were built in 1984. Before construction there were some smaller frame homes and beautiful large Live Oak trees covering the hillside. The developer bull-dozed all the trees and homes on a two day period then just paid the City of Austin the penalty for cutting down trees. The next year the condos were completed all the way though having walls, sheet-rock and Spanish tile roof. But there was a major problem that the developer didn't follow the building codes and then entire condo complex started sliding down the hill. Over the next 3 years the building was slowly dismantled with the elevator shafts being left there until the mid 90's. I used to use some of the lumber to start my fireplace. It burned very well.

This is about eight blocks away from where she lived in Austin. I drive by this daily. I also helped with the Netflix documentary of her life...you're a bit away from where she used to live. You can view her journal at her museum in Port Arthur and read the exact address.

Are you saying that the structures of the Hope Gallery are where she used to live? Because I found that it was a failed condo project: www.atlasobscura.com/places/hope-outdoor-gallery and that The Pink Palace was where she lived for the brief summer of 62 (www.nytimes.com/2012/04/05/garden/in-austin-tex-the-pink-palace-is-a-legend.html) while attending art classes at UT Austin... Just curious where you found that info?

She also lived in a duplex in West Campus everyone called the ghetto for some reason. The Austin scene back in 66 was coming alive with bands like 13th Floor Elevators and the drag taken over by the Hippies and radicals.

it's too bad, the owner of the property, would'nt allow it to become a community garden project, and clear all the weeds and plant a vegetable and flower garden... keep the graffitti and install sculptures, water features and lights as well as a fence. to keep out the vandal's who would mess it all up.
