I found the episode on Paramount Plus it's acutally S4 Ep 17
But chief was an NCO, wouldn't there have been higher ranking officers to replace Worf?
Miles you fckng icon 🫡
60% of Medal of Honor recipients have gone. to Irish men or men of Irish heritage, the Irish have more Victoria Crosses per capita then any other country, the most decorated soldiers of WW2 were Irish men , this shows why the Chief was the most important man in Federation history
I love this episode.
235 engagements and yet still isnt a Master Chief.
damn. just went it was getting interesting...you cut it off :(
235 separate engagements, never in command as he is enlisted and someone two days out of the academy outranks him. If he took command the rest of the crew would be dead most likely. It is a false comparison.
this lawyers son then ended up serving on the same klingon ship as worf sometime later be interesting if the son and worf got into a fight on the rotarron
I love deep space nine
One of those guys you can tell is a black guy under the klingon makeup because he couldn't tamp down his blaccent.
Finally, the guy gets his recognition. Obrien was at the helm in Encounter at Farpoint, a true veteran
It's because he's a union man
The entire situation of this episode is a great idea and produces a great selection of dialogue. However the premise does not sit well even for the direction it is trying to go in. A civilian ship with a cloaking device that decides to "appear" right in front of an enemy ship while a battle is occuring - Sorry but only a really stupid Federation pacifist brainbug would throw this level of fit over the situation. Granted: The Klingons can attempt to raise a stink over it for public relations but the Federation can hit back easily enough by pointing out the elephant in the room. The rest of the universe is not the Federation and outside of Federation ethic / morality - I find it sketchy to believe many would go to the microscopic level to blame Worf rather than look at the ENTIRE context of the situation and realise more than Worf is at fault. The Federation is seriously going to throw away Worf to get executed over this ? O'Brien = 235 engagements - Somehow he got booted from a bridge position to transporter but they consider him competent enough to take command of the Defiant if Worf got taken out... ? This man's career trajectory is cursed.
I don't answer hypotheticals. End of conversation
This episode was terrible. Prosecutor: "We concede all the defenses points." Defense: "So we win, right?" Judge: "No. Because Worf gets angry sometimes."
Maybe after 235 engagements, O'Brian lost his enthusiasm for being a warrior you know.
No. Chief of Brian is an enlisted, not an officer. CPO's of the Navy/Coast Guard are the senior enlisted; from Chief, E-7; Senior Chief, E-8; to Master Chief, E-9. Starfleet follows Navy/Coast Guard ranks (officer class) and rates (enlisted men) and therefore, next officer after Worf; would assume command. If Worf was the CO, then the XO. Think Picard = CO; and Riker = XO.
This is nothing to O'Brien. The Klingon attorney here is a piece of cake compared to Keiko.
umm big blunder on sisko's part, they want to make O'brain an expert in the area of starship combat, and sisko dosent even raise the clear objection off O'brain is an enginering officer and not a trained tatical officer, Combat is not is area of expertise
O'Brien served as a tactical officer aboard the USS Rutledge during the Cardassian War. and was seen manning Worfs station on a few episodes of TNG, that and he conned the Battle Bridge at encounter at Farpoint
I worked it out... That's just under 1 a month... interesting career. I wonder what constitutes a combat engagement. Do stand offs count ro do that actually have to fire. Also does it count if he's just the transported chief at the time and simply on board? Or does he have to take an actual role in the fighting? I'm just interested btw not picking holes.
Who's the actor playing the Klingon lawyer? I'm almost positive he also played a Moclan on The Orville.
Ron Canada and he didn't played a Moclan he played a Human Admiral
@ YES!!! Thank you. He's the one that told Alara to leave Ed and Kelly in the Zoo.
O'Brian's take is actually both total bullshit and contradictory to his established character. He refused Bashir's direct order and destroyed a very good chance at neutralizing or damaging the Jemhadar threat because it was more expedient to their immediate goal of destroying the few enemies on that planet and escaping. Also, there's no way a civilian cargo/transport ship would get right the fck in the middle of a fight and just decloak 5 meters infront of an enemy and taking the time to verify the target in that situation before firing would be a mentally handicapped move. It's not a city street full of civilians that might run infront of your sights, it's fcking space.
That Klingon is too black, lol.
235, not bad for a service branch claiming not to be a military branch
I read an interview with the actor who played the Klingon Lawyer. He played it as though he was a Klingon warrior, valuing honor and heritage, but the courtroom was his battlefield. I always thought that was a very cool take.
So, like a lawyer. There was a comment I saw somewhere about this lawyer who didn't like to be confrontational/argue, but could do well in court because there there's rules and an order to everything.
Makes sense to me. Men can live or die based on what happens in a courtroom, so in a very real way the courtroom is indeed a battlefield. Actor-kun had a point.
There’s been an interesting amount of Klingon lawyers throughout the various series and movies.
@@DAFORCEFilms michael dorn even played Kirk and Mccoy's lawyer if I recall
@@near--zerothat lawyer was Worfs father or grandfather I believe.
I'm not surprised O'Brien was in that many engagements. It seems like he's the only non commissioned office in Star Fleet so he has to rotate around to cover all the commissioned officers;).
Nice to see O'Brien getting some respect.
DS9 is the best Star Trek show. Change my mind.
Classic. Ty for hd.
_"Damnit, I'm an engineer, not a warrior!"_
That character is the least honorable Klingon lawyer we’ve ever seen
This side of the trial would have been shut down quick. Calls for speculation. O’Brien wasn’t captain.
It sounds impressive until you realise that a cook on the USS Enterprise can also claim to be in every combat the ship was involved in but that wouldn’t make him an expert.
An expert in starship combat? He was a transporter chief lol
He spent years fighting the cardassians though. Also, pretty sure an engineer working on a warship would still count as being involved in combat if the warship has an engagement.
"Would you have taken command..." Yeah, if all the other officers were dead. Chief maybe a senior NCO, but there is a chain of command.
Klingon Lawyer?? PATAKH!!!!
235 seperate engagements... Poor miles found himself in combat once a month for 20 years.
'Benefits' of being on the Enterprise?
235 engagements today so far...
235 enguagements in 22 years? That is 10.68 engagements every year... almost 1 engagement every month!?
Considering the Enterprise-D was poking it's nacelles in every space anomaly on a given week I'd assume the USS Rutledge was doing the same but with more shooting and less talky science. Like a typical episode of TNG but the captain listens to Worf and just shoots the space-chaos-thingo.
Well, he *is* married.
He was active duty during the Cardassian war.
Have you even watched Star Trek? Once a month is mild, probably. XD
@@patchbunny 🤣
"For the record, Chief O'brien has been in 235 separate engagements and Starfleet has decorated him 15 times"
Should've told the Klingon: "I don't deal in hypotheticals"
nor do the courts, at least not in a military setup like this one, so really, his entire line of questioning would have been stopped or thrown out anyways.
In Worf defense it’s wasn’t his fault
Objection, calls for speculation.
yep, this whole line of questioning should have been thrown out
"Sustained."
A Vulcan judge makes the most sense.
Makes the least sense. Vulcan worship logic they don't use it as a tool.
He was a NCO....unless all the other officers were also killed, how would he take command?
I believe we only see Worf, Kira and O'brien on the Defiant bridge during the battle. Given the circumstances, at least for this engagement, I could see Kira being outside the chain of command on the Defiant thereby making O'brien the acting captain if Worf went down.
Klingon Lawyer : 235 separate engagement O'Brien : I was in a bloody transporter room for half of them
I was fixing the damage; most of it from your people counselor.
He was Maxwell's tactical officer and saw ground combat on Setlik III. O'brien clearly did a ton before being on the Enterprise.
Klingon Lawyer: How much blood was present, exactly?
O’Brien is a non commissioned officer, would he be next in the chain of command to Captain the Defiant. I know he probably have the experience to take command but would he be next in the chain of command ?
"Let's say that happened." "Okay, immediate withdraw and permanent shore leave for everybody WITH PAY. Any objections?"
"Let's say that happened." "OK, 'That happened.'"
