This video documents the process of cleaning the Neve 8248 console Filter, EQ, and AUX PCB modules. I use an UltraSonic cleaner with PCB cleaning solution and distilled water. nice test, i like the yamahas the most, very sharp in a good way and less pronounced lows as i was expecting would be interesting to hear different genres or instruments too i have the krk rokit 6 g3 and was thinking about getting some yamahas but as my main genre is hiphop i thought i might miss the more pronounced lows in the yamahas when mixing these 808s but this also could be a good thing
thanks! yeah the NS10M-Studios are still quite useful for mixing despite the lack of low end. If you can get some older KRK speakers before Gibson took over, it's well worth it. These are KRK Series2 V6. The biggest difference is the console reflection instead of the previous computer desk I had, that changes these speakers quite a bit. I also have the NHT M100s with a sub (not tested in this video) those are just fun listening speakers
A20 is perfect for guitar range - more upper mids than A21 to cut thru, less low mids mud like A21 has. A20 just tighter more detailed. Even for pro audio A20 would be superior, going from 10hz to 50khz, where A21 is 30 to 30khz

That is an insane difference in sound without and with a UTC in the chain if that's same mic position and everything... Rolls the low end off a little and pulls everything into focus. Wild.
Back in 1984 to 1985 I worked at UTC in Manhatten. I was the final Electrical Quality Control inspector before anything went out the door. Many very high quality stuff was made there.

@@metalhead3ecr I think i have 2 units still in original box One is a step down transformer and the other a DOT. Both I personally built from scratch all the way to boxing . I'll check to see if i still have them
Hi, very helpful video, I have one of my v6 (same as yours) that have a more pronounced buzz/ground noise like, the other is quiter but remain noisy (rispect of ns10), after turn the toroid became totaly quite like modern monitors? Thanks, regards

@@fpdrumwith such a large field being that close to the electronics, it's bound to have some buzz and hum regardless of the rotation. If you can put the transformer outside of the enclosure and away from the speaker it'll be totally quiet. That would have been a better design albeit more clunky

Instead of using tongs and possibly scratching up the boards you could've just took out the basket lol.
I ended up using the basket, tongs are more fun though
What size machine did you decide to go with?
i got the creworks 10L, which is 2.6 gallons. If I had something to fit the entire channel strip, that would have saved time, but I wouldn't trust putting a transformer or P&G fader into this stuff!
@@metalhead3ecr I thought about getting the 10L so bad. I went with a 6L because it should be all I need for what i'm doing, but I knew if I wanted to do something bigger 10L might be the way to go. That price though,.

These transients are so amazing... I love overhead transients, but I still haven't found away to make them work with close mics, without getting flamming sound
normally you shouldnt hear a "flamming" sound between your close mics and OHs. At least when using typical distances for your overheads. Try something like 70-120cm measured from the center of your snaredrum and you should be fine. For me a flamming sensation became more of a "problem" using bigger distances for room mics etc. Try flipping polarity on your snare mic tho
You need a dish drainer/rack to put your parts in in post wash. To save yourself some mess and cleanup.
@@TheTsunamijuan haha yep i started using towels and ditched the tongs for picking things up and just used the basket. Still a bit messy but i only need to do this once every 20 years or so

Larger value resistors are quieter than lesser, look up shot noise, mechanical noise, the paint caused the body to not provide ground/faraday shielding, big waste of time though it worked out for u

ROCK ON
KRK speaker was exhibiting buzz in both the tweeter and woofer. The circuit looked fine, but I replaced the PSU components hoping it would resolve the issue. It did not. The buzz was still there. I started probing the preamp to see where it was coming from but it seemingly appeared out of nowhere between two stages. Turns out the power transformer toroid rotated in shipping and the new orientation induced buzz/hum into the surrounding components. Easy fix but hard to find!

Here's what my guitar amp sounds like! There's only five of these amplifiers in the world 🌎 each one built by me! They're single channel, 50 Watts, and all tube. Featuring four 12AX7 preamp tubes and two KT66 power amp tubes. What makes them unique (other than the looks!) is the positioning of the modifier switches in the circuit layout and how these switches react to sculpt your tone. This is iPhone audio because i'm lazy and honest. #guitar #amplifier #tubeamp
How did you remove C50?
C50 can be removed by carefully twisting the component CW and CCW until the leads disconnect from the cap but not the pcb. Much like how you can remove an SMD cap. To get it flush on the board, you'll need to lift that side of the main pcb to solder the bottom

Unrelated question on this amp -- Is there a place to find descriptions/meanings of the relay designations in the schematic: RYTS; RYOD; RY2; RYE, RYA, etc? I am looking at the preamp schematic and having a hard time understanding how the signal flows in any given mode. Is this correct for clean channel in clean mode: Input --> V2B --> CH1 Tone Stack --> Ch 1 "Gain Control" (1 MA pot) --> V1B? And then "crunch" mode of channel 1/clean channel would be: Input --> V2A --> CH 1 Gain Control --> V2B --> CH 1 Tone Stack --> V1B?
I don't have the schematic handy right now, but Mesa has a pretty bad reputation for their schematics. Sometimes going right to left for signal and poor descriptions etc. You might be correct but I recommend injecting a known signal (sine wave at 400Hz for example) and then probing through the amp at every stage to make sure things are correct. It sounds fantastic. The sound could use some treble. I have a pair of the Scamp 01's but they're not as good as the Compex.

a bad batch should ideally be caught by the supplier before it makes it out of the factory to Dave, in any case, I would recommend a brand change!

U47 for me is more soft and more slowly vs C12. The C12 is more agressive and fast...i hear with Focal solo 6

@@metalhead3ecr first thing i would ask is, is there anything you wish u knew before you built the 47 mic? or anything you learned? things to watch for? I have ordered one my self to build
@@artvandelay4914 just take your time with the build and you should be fine! Things to watch for would be maintaining a good ground between the housing and internal electronics in addition to keeping a tidy workspace so no debris gets near the capsule or high impedance sections. If you ordered from Dennis, make sure you get all of the items you ordered. I never received the wood cases and had to ask for a partial refund a few times before getting one.

No, it was a dbx 165. The ADR Compex used to be the compressor on the old Helios mixers, used most famously by Led Zep. You can here Bonham here, even though the drummer is playing quite soft. Amazing piece of kit
Nice to see someone actually demonstrate why transformer orientation and placement is important to reduce coupling. (Just think how low it would be with a switching supply!) Also like that 1) you have a good quality scope and 2) you have it in high resolution mode to improve the effective bit range and lower the noise floor. Oversampling each point in Hi Res makes a huge difference. Weird how TH-cam got me here. Happy it did! (You could do a voice over on this one if the mood strikes you one day, but the vid does speak for itself..)
Hey Eddie, thanks for doing this, I like what you're doing and I'm currently working through my tone on a total rebuild of a Traynor YBA I've owned since the 80's. I'm at a point of doing similar tone tweaking, so it's right where my head is at. Also good to see the integration of the software and parts sourcing. Any thoughts on the Chinese component quality vs buying from Mouser, Digikey etc. Totally agree on the PT replacement too. Thanks for sharing! Much appreciated.
thanks for the comment! I haven't had any issues with LCSC, they tend to have most parts available. Fancier ICs from Analog Devices and Texas Instruments might be missing or low stock compared to Mouser and Digikey, but the basic components are usually well in stock and they have similar brands to what most prefer, Nichicon, Murata, Panasonic, Dale, Vishay, etc.
