If your dog is getting a hold of peach pits and chicken bones you have bigger problems to fix. They literally have been eating the same food we eat for ten thousand years, and it’s proven that they live shorter lives now than ever before. We also medicate more than ever before and let’s be honest, kibble is much less nutritious than it used to be. Don’t be fooled by industrial production propaganda. They couldn’t care less about your dog, just their profits. No bones, pits or chocolate obviously, but the rest is quite fine!

And actually much MORE nutritious. Canine medicine and the advice that comes along with it is just as corrupt as ours.

Thank you so much! I have a 5year old Maltese mix ,walks fine jumps up and down ,no problem. I can feel her knees sliding, always have. Shes never shown any discomfort. We walk every day. I can never go to any vets appointment without them bringing up surgery! It always angers me. I'm not willing to have them cut on my little girl as a preventative measure for future problems! It's reassuring to hear you say it's not always necessary!

I was told to keep an eye on my dogs umbilical hernia when she was 6 weeks. She was spayed and it did not get fixed as it was diagnosed as a closed hernia. She Never had any problems until two days ago it swelled 3 times it normal size overnight. She is 10 years old ! She also had been eating grass a lot everyday about a week prior and just didn’t seem like herself. She is still very spunky and not really considered senior because her breed lives 18-20 years. But she is half way through her natural life span. Took her today and now we have surgery scheduled five days from now. She does not have any palpable intestines inside hernia but I have no idea what caused this. I asked if we could get an Ultra- Sound to investigate but my vets office does not have that. So I guess it will just be repaired but I’m wondering if something is going on in her stomach such as a tumor that would push on the hernia enough to suddenly make the skin bulge out so suddenly. I hate having surgery on her without understanding what is going on and if no intestines or stomach are felt then why is surgery needed? The doctor left the room to speak with someone about it but never came back in. The assistant could not answer questions. This is costing 800 dollars too so I’m feeling worried and frustrated. Update- She had her surgery and has made a quick recovery. I fed her sweet potatoes and fresh cooked organic chicken breast. And only spring water allowed during her recovery. The vet did in fact find a tumor or mass that had developed inside the hernia. And the hernia was not closed as originally diagnosed by a previous vet. I could not afford additional cost to have the mass looked at in a pathology lab and not much could be done if it were malignant. Other than have more surgery at another date. Her incision was much larger than originally planned.

Hi, I have a 1yr old cavapoo (4kg) that was diagnosed with grade 4 following a jump off our couch. Vet recommended surgery as last option. She’s completely active, and can sprint full speed in dog parks, jump, and even walk on hind legs. No signs of pain at all. I dont want to put her through this surgery at all, knowing the high risks. How long will it take for arthritis to set in, and will it be too late to consider surgery if it does?

Hello. My dog went through this surgery, but his knee cap/patella keeps luxating. It's been 2 months since the surgery. When he walk slow, it's pretty evident how the patella keeps going out of place and snapping back to place almost in every flexion of the knee, when he jogs, it looks a bit more stable. Apart from that he has hyperlexia, just in case it needs to be considered. Is it possible that after a successful surgery, the problem persists? Or if the patella keeps luxating, it means that the surgery didn't go very well? I know it's a hard question over TH-cam, I just want some guidance, I'm getting desperate for the sake of my dog. Thank you.

My toy Poodle can no longer pop his leg back in place... is he in pain or is it just a nuisance to him? he travels around quite well on three legs and can even run really fast.... I dont want to leave him in pain, but if it's not really hurting him, is he ok to stay like that? The money for the surgery is beyond my means right now, and he has rotten teeth also which have to be tended to and those are taking priority. Another question, if he isn't using the leg for a long time, will the muscles be damaged so that he may never use it again even if I can do the surgery later on down the line?

Hi I have a 1 year old mini aussie. He had a luxated patella on the left side and limped here and there one doc said surgery and two said he didnt need surgery only vitamins for life. Then one day he was running and it got very bad he injured both sides and they said he has a cruciate tear and grade 4 luxated patella on the right and the left is mild luxated patella. The doctor said without surgery his leg will atrophy and will not get better. So 4500 for the tear and to correct his knee. He can hardly walk he can walk normal but then limps or falls over. The way he looks I feel he does need surgery but I didn't want him to go through that or I am scared he will ruin it I can hardly afford one surgery

My dads orange pom about 8 pounds has this and normally shell will pick up back left while running then one time I did see her hoping on the right and it went out and she just sit down so I picked her up. That's only happened once most the time it's only back left and shes still really playful and fetches but I'm worried if it's bad that she can't really run like a normal dog to get that good cardio in everyday. She's with my disabled dad so she stays by his side like a shadow and doesn't really like going out other than to potty or if he is outside with her. Doesn't seem to be in any pain though just a little discomfort when it pops out. She's only 2 years old so I'm worried if we should have it done or not and how much is the surgery normally?

Being the average mid-class american, we just don’t have that money on tap, so we declined. Hi Saul, the TPLO surgery (recommended for bigger dogs) for torn CCL is about $2700, $550 added to fix the luxating patella. That is getting her meds filled at my pharmacy for cheaper and we are already $400 in with exams/x-rays. The luxating patella alone would be about $1500 since you'd have to pay all the other parts of the surgery that are already included with the $2700. I also have a Pet Assure discount that my vet accepts. This is in the North Texas area, I hear it is more expensive on the coasts.
