What is a Passamaquoddy? Five Historical facts about Maine's #NativeAmerican Tribe #wabanaki
Passamaquoddy Legends: Annotated Edition available on #Amazon a.co/d/4otqIvE
"What is a Passamaquoddy?" by Michael W. Cook (c) 2023.
The target audience is Maine K-12 students. The objectives are five historical facts about the Passamaquoddy Native American Tribe. Presented to pique curiosity about the Passamaquoddy Tribal culture and history. A secondary audience is the K-12 educators tasked to comply with the Maine law and will be a valuable resource for learners and educators. Linguistic quarriers are directed to the Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Dictionary.
The method used to engage the learner is opening & closing with a movie clip from Disney's 1977 "Pete's Dragon" set in early 20th-century Maine. The antagonist, Doc Terminus, is attempting to sell his magical tonic to the Passamaquoddy townspeople. However, he cannot pronounce it correctly. This Disney musical may not be recognizable to today's children, but they will recognize the formulaic musical style. Without knowing about "Pete's Dragon", a learner will grasp that this must be from an older Disney movie. Music tends to connect better with younger audiences and should facilitate receiving information in a more positive light. In addition, the historical photos are displayed like a Ken Burns documentary where they are not static and fill up the entire 16:9 aspect ratio screen

It’s Mi’kmaq, not Micmac. Micmac is a European misnomer
You are right Mi’kmaq, Mi'gmaq, or Miꞌkmaw is more correct.
Yep, and to be a little more specific (I am Mi’kmaq btw) Mi’kmaq is singular in our language whereas Mi’kmaw refers to L’nu or “the people” so if you’re referring to the people as a nation or group you’d say “Mi’kmaw”.
@@bradymercermusic good to know, thanks.
Wasn’t expecting my ancestor Chief William Neptune to be on there.
That’s great. I went to school with David, Jennifer, and Matthew Neptune.
Wow nice! Those names do ring a bell.

Thanks from Charlotte County. 🦅
You are very welcome!
Interesting 🤔
Thanks for watching.
Are you making more of these?
Possibly, if there is enough interest.
Hi 👋
Hello
If you enjoy these stories, drop a comment below.
I was seriously hoping for the petes dragon clip lol
And you got it. Thanks for watching.
❤
Thanks for watching.
I liked them both 👍
Thank you.
That’s Doctor Terminus from Petes Dragon!
Yes it is. You have seen the movie 😀
Never fear KeneticToast is here for the New Year 🎇🎆🧨
Thanks.
Funny clip from Petes Dragon😂
Thanks for watching,
The credits were fast 👀
Yes, credits were required for the assignment.
Quick overview
Thanks for watching.
You need color maps 😮
I agree. Color maps are better.
Wrap up short 😀
Yes, it is. I really quick wrap up. My initial assignment had a time limit,
This is the conclusion of my five interesting Passamaquoddy facts.
Like your series of shorts
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I did not notice a difference 👀
There are two references at the bottom. I had both in the description but not displayed on the screen. The second one was very important to cite because it directly related to the Land Claims litigation effort.
❤
Thank you.
Never fear KeneticToast is here for the New Year 🎇🎆🧨
Haha you even used the same comment 🤣
Second watch here 🐳
Thank you very much.
Facts facts facts 🎉
Yes yes yes 👍
yeah, I watch this already :(
Same
Thanks for commenting
I appreciate the re-watch
I made an error on the citation and wanted to credit my sources correctly 🙏
@@mikecook_author
I had to reupload this due to an error in the citation. Also, it was set as a premier which did not list under the shorts menu. Hope you enjoy Fact #5 take 2.
🤣
Is this a school lecture?
Yes it was a PhD class assignment. I put the basic requirements in the description.
🤙 cool
Thank you.
Cany wait for more 🤙
Thanks for stopping by my channel. Checkout all five facts.
@@mikecook_author 🆒
İnternet bad books good 😬
There are bad books, too.
I could have skipped the shorts and watched this video 😢
Yes but you would not have known about it unless I made the shorts. I posted this six months ago and the shorts have increased interest. 👍😀
Hey this is an ad not facts 😢
Sorry. But it did give me the idea to create the facts shorts.
No color pictures🥰
Black and white look more authentic 😂
I saw arrowheads before in museums.
Yes, since the arrowheads tended to be stone and commonly used to hunt food they are better preserved artifacts.
Learning a lot
Glad you are enjoying the shorts.
Where there any treaties that didn’t get violated?
There is a short overview at History.com but once Pres Jackson initiated the 70 or so removal treaties, the previous treaties were basically nullified. www.history.com/news/native-american-broken-treaties
It’s like those shows think you smarter than a 5th shows
I doubt many 5th graders lean this but I get you point 🎯
That’s less than 100 years ago!?!?
Although s century seems long, 1924 is relatively recent considering European “first contact” with the Passamaquoddy by Samuel Champlain in 1604.
Kinds scary ngl
Be careful on the Internet 🛜
History is surprising. I never learned this is school.😮
Agreed. The more you know... hopefully learning history helps us make better decisions today.
