Chukar Hunting in Utah | Final Rise 'In The Field' S1.E6
Bird numbers out west are at a peak and as the old saying goes, 'Birds make the bird dog' so we've taken every chance possible to keep building our bird dogs.
On this hunt we made the effort to go visit a special place that always seems to reward the effort it takes to access its steep and rock covered faces.. The excitement of young dogs making 'big dog' moves and maturing through ample bird contacts made this hunt one for the memories.
It's experiences and moments like the ones shown here that we hope for every time we lace up our boots and drop shells in the tubes. We hope you'll enjoy watching!
Please make sure to subscribe and check out our other hunts and films. We'd love to have your support!

Great video. Could have been me talking as i agree with everything you say except extractors vs ejector. I shoot a 16 sxs and shells are a bit scarce. I prefer extractor in this case. I reload so its much easier not having to search for spent shells. On the 20s and 12s. Its not so big a deal if one is lost other than the littering aspect.
Where is this? The Uintah's?
Pistols and rifles have a rear sight and a front sight. You line up the front sight in the notch of the rear sight. Or a telescopic sight or a red dot, which are even simpler and one dimensional. With a shotgun, your eye is your rear sight. Wherever you eye looks, your brain automatically makes the adjustments necessary to tell your trigger finger when to fire. Your eye is looking at your target, not a front bead or anything else, though some want one for aesthetics. Quite simply, if you lost your front bead, you could still have a successful hunt.
@@maxcorder2211 well said. I have several guns I’ve taken my front bead off of. “See the bird. Shoot the bird” 🤘🏼
Very informative content. I'm in WA state in very interested in hunting upland birds and leaning towards a 20 ga. Right now I'm trying to get educated and ideally enroll in a 4 hour class field class hunting the Yakima valley....gotta start somewhere. CHEERS!
@@jimmyc5050 you’re headed down the right path brother. Way to go to get involved and take the steps. Not easy to start something new and get outside your comfort zone. Huge congrats. Keep us posted on your journey!

@@dougwilkinson-uq3xr I’ll take your word for it. Never had the chance to hunt there. Solid guess, but wrong.
This is the best year for chukars and huns that I've seen since the late '90s. Sadly, my season ends Thursday with a total right should replacement. I'll be enjoying the rest of the season vicariously watching your videos and wishing I was out there with you guys. See you at the Utah Chukar Banquet in February.
@@johnstaley7114 sorry to hear it John! Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing you at the banquet 👊🏼
These types of videos make me wanna move out west! You can feel the excitement in the videos and I’m always happy to see birds but love watching my dog work. The birds are a bonus for me. Well done guys!
@@ReedCartwright thanks so much! You’re spot on with your comment as well! It’s all about the dogs 🤘🏼
What case/mount do you use for your Garmin?
@@nickinsidney I use a small gatekeeper clip and a piece of one-wrap webbing material that loops through the bottom of the garmin transmitter. I feed the gatekeeper through the loop I create with the one wrap on the garmin and clip feed it through a designed attachment point on the shoulder harness. Super simple and minimal way to have it accessible, not swing around and not drag my extra long antenna in the dirt lol.

@@ventureoutdoorswithkirk super grateful for the support! Can’t thank you enough 🇺🇸
Man, I have yet to get my 5yo dog a wild chukar in his mouth, we struggled with gunshyness and then I haven't been able to get him on a chukar since. Also the best spot I know got bought by a private owner. I keep finding habitat and guzzlers but no birds. I gotta just get miles on, we're about to move to the west desert so it's going to get substantially easier. I got your summit (reg) and man I love it, makes the whole enterprise so much more fun. I wish I hadn't waited so long.
@@jcarry5214 each dog is definitely its own journey! Good on you for taking it at the dogs pace and having the patience to work through it! Not easy to do! Always say it’s boot leather that kills chukar. Focus on the rim rocks and south facing slopes this time of year! 👊🏼 Super grateful for the amazing support as well. Hope you know how much it means to us 🇺🇸
@@finalrise thanks for the encouragement, I will keep at it. And I'll be keeping an eye out for new products, everyone who's seen the vest has damn near shat, it's a friggin bargain at 300.

Intermediate ruffland kennels fit with a cab height canopy on a decked system. At least in my f150.
Nice job, I enjoyed watching that. I’m hoping to join the FR family with a vest purchase this spring.
My son got me a Final Rise vest last Christmas, been out grouse hunting this year with him and using the vest, it’s been fantastic.
@@patrickchristen1169 so happy to hear it brother! Hope you guys are having an awesome season 👊🏼
Went chukar hunting once, loved it but by far a calorie deficit hunt, 7k vertical for one bird. Our elk hunts at 9-10k feet are easier, until you have to pack out a bull
I’m stuck on the browning citori 725 feather 20 gauge and the ugc Zeus in 20 gauge I mainly grouse hunt, in your opinion what would be better
I hunt with the Instinct L in 12 Its very versatile although it does sometimes crush shells.
What grade of wood does the 20 gauge have?
@@nickwatson6200 the 20 ga is the standard wood, nothing fancy. It’s built as a very basic field gun build I can beat on, but it does the trick and looks very nice for being as minimal of a build as they really offer.
Great video. Do you have interference with the soft topper frame and the decked system when folding the soft topper?
@@ramiroclassic great question! My setup does not have any issues going up or down with the deck system in. The frame design of the soft topper does slide and create a section, when collapsed, that would contact it if you first collapsed it and then tried to rotate the entire thing from the behind the cab towards the tailgate, but that’d be outside of the products normal scope of usage. As you collapse the frame to remove it, the bars slide and the frame changes shape but the timing and location of the frames low point doesn’t reach its full length until it’s actually all the way down. It works flawlessly. Whether that’s by design or coincidence on their part, I’m not sure lol
@ that’s great news! I have been holding off buying a soft topper because I wasn’t certain it would work. I have a 2024 f250 super duty with a 6’8” bed. I’m assuming if it fits your F150 that it will work with mine. Im excited to have a similar set up to yours. Thank you for the recommendation on the dog creates and fit under the soft top. I appreciate the reply!

As I’m seemingly endlessly trying to find a first break action gun for upland, I’m curious if you still love the 20 gauge if your a dog less hunter. I’m new to hunting and my lab is 7. G just hoping that the 20 gauge would be great if you aren’t hunting over dogs? Thanks
Get something you can afford, lighter the better but doesn't really matter. They all steel tubes shooting pellets basically.
