I need to make an update video for this guitar. The KM pickup has been replaced By a D-Activator pickup because the KM was damaged while shipping the guitar. The D-Activator sounds a little sterile to me, lacking low-mids but it has enough output to handle baritone tunings.

The idea behind an FRFR (Full Range, Flat Response) cab is to remove the character that a speaker/cab gives you usually. This means you'll need to use an Impulse Response of a micd up cabinet after your guitar head, before the FRFR cab to get the tonal response of that micd cab. This works best with modelling units like Kemper, Quad Cortex etc. I don't really think you should be plugging a guitar head straight into an FRFR cab as that defeats the point.

I've got one on order. I had a 27" 7 string fan fret with Fishman Moderns and I found it really overpowering.....just way too much everything, demolished everything else in the signal chain. It was a neck-through monster. I'm looking forward to having lower output pups. I think they made the choice deliberately, knowing that higher output pups with the long scale and low tuning would be too much. Really cool video, I liked the fast-forward pup swap segment, just enough detail, not at all boring. Very well done.

I have the Sophgate and think that it’s great, I just leave it on all the time. I use it with a PRS MT-15 amp and I get no noise issues at all across both clean and lead channels. I would recommend putting the guitar into the Sophgate input as early in the chain as you can because the gate is opened by the signal from the guitar, so any noisy/dirt pedal in front means raising the threshold which can negatively impact your sustain. By having the uncoloured guitar signal directly on the input you get the best out of the controls on the gate. My setup goes: Guitar>Tuner>Fuzz>Octaver>Wah>Sophgate Input>Sophgate Send>TubeScreamer>Phaser>Amp Input>Amp FX Send>Sophgate Return>Sophgate Output>Delay>Reverb>Looper>Amp FX Return My Sophgate settings are Threshold at 9o’clock and Release at 12o’clock with the switch on Slow. You gotta keep in mind the model used in this video is over 10 years old, newest models may be different. I have a slightly newer set of Bx8a's and amp removal is the same. Just remove all the perimeter screws on the metal plate on the back of the cabinet. Hope this helps

@@HeavyInHawaii hello it was not neccessary. I found out that i can change the fuse directly at the power cord entrance.. it even had a spare fuse! So cool!

Great sounds man. Is that a standard sized pickup? I have the same guitar and want to change the bridge pup. Just wondering how much routing if any ill need to do.

Right around the 5:45 mark there is a still and the parts circled in red are the parts i carved out with a dremel and sanding wheel. The problem with the stock pickup cavities is there is no room for the pickup mounting legs. After you do this mod though, if you decide you don't like it, you can always put the stock pickup back in and no one is the wiser. Thanks for watching SC.
