Fellow 30+ year old YTer here...I've made a lot of mistakes these last 6 months doing this, including things I never would've expected. You have the right mindset.

I have a small channel and honestly couldn't care less about making any money. No offence to anyone here but it'll never be a real job. Its a hobby and we are privileged that its genuinely considered a career.

When I was 20 I had a very myopic worldview, never really planned ahead, and assumed I wouldn't even live past 40. As I got older, I got more self aware and introspective, bit by bit. Now I am over 60, and while I don't regret most of my life choices, I definitely I wish at 30 I was as aware and wise as you are at 30! Keep up the great work on your channel!

I enjoy your videos. This is not criticism. Just some friendly advice. Something that will help your viewers connect with you more is if you look directly into the lens of the camera and not at your self in the screen.

Bingo! You've got it now ... good and proper pivot! My videos were totally abysmal when I first started out, but I kept on learning, and changing, and growing. Compare my first three videos with my latest 3 videos ... still by no means professional level ... but an order of magnitude better than they were! Enjoy your journey. Excelsior!

You are doing well creating thumbnails, so that will definitely help out your channel. I didn't start creating thumbnail until about a year in! If you only have time for 1 video a week, that will be fine (regularity is important) but if you have time to make 2 to 3 videos a week your growth rate will do much better (assuming you have enough planned content to keep up that pace).
