1918 Martin 00-18 Review- My New All-Time Favorite Small Body Guitar
This guitar is a finger pickers dream. It has mojo for days and I absolutely love it. It’s very much a players grade vintage guitar but considering the year I’m tickled with it. It might be my new all-time favorite small body guitar. It leaves a little to be desired in hard strumming and intonation but the mojo and overall vibe more than make up for the relatively few shortcomings it has.

This guitar is so pretty it makes my heart palpitate. I’ve been driving a lot the last few days and not eating the healthiest food so that may also be playing a factor but even without that this guitar sends my heart fluttering. Being a 1996 it’s nice and broken in. It rings for days and is as loud as can be. The HOA said I can only play it from 9am-9pm on account of neighbors keep thinking the...

I fully acknowledge I might be the only person in the world who cares about comparing these 12-Fret guitars but I’m having so much fun that I barley notice the complete lack of fanfare when I post these videos and that counts for something. Anyway. This is your classic Martin rosewood versus mahogany battle but this time in a 12-Fret dreadnaught. I can’t hardly wait. The specs on them are virtu...

This song has been running through my mind a lot these past few days while we’ve sat with my mother in law Karla as she passed away. It talks about having a girl in the war and the helplessness you feel. I think about Karla being the girl in the war as she experienced the process of death. I think of all the people who have loved her throughout her life from the time she was a little girl up un...
Martin D-18s 12-Fret VS Bagnasco & Casati D-18s 12-Fret
มุมมอง 4421 วันที่ผ่านมา
This was my favorite comparison to date. I’ve been down a 12-Fret rabbit hole of late and these two are at the top of my list. The Martin has sinker mahogany and a 1 3/4 nut width the B&C has a wider 1 13/16 nut width. The B&C also has no adjustable truss rod which is scary for a lot of people. Here’s my take: The Martin is a little easier to play complicated pieces (The Stone and Captain) but ...

My Martin D-18s Sinker Mahogany 12-Fret may have met its match. I absolutely love this guitar. It’s similar to my Martin with two notable exceptions 1) It has a 1 13/16 nut width as opposed to 1 3/4 on my Martin and 2) there’s no adjustable truss rod. Is that a deal killer? Would you own a guitar without an adjustable truss rod? Have you had an acoustic with a wider nut width?

Martin D-28 vs Martin D-35

This was SUCH a fun comparison. I traded my 2015 D-28 for a 2011 D-35 but before I did I took a quick video of the D-28. Several hours later I played the same songs on the D-35. I had to boost the volume on the D-28 slightly as the D-35 was a lot louder and/or I may have had the microphone closer. Probably a little of both. Which tone did you all prefer?

Martin Vintage Series HD-28 S น้ำเสียงมีพลังมาก
I had a 1996 D28 and it was awesome! Not everones favorite era of Martin but there are some hidden gems they've made like this one What a great clear sound!
I just sold mine two weeks ago
That guitar has a pretty voice.
@@BanjoRose_down-picker thank you!
I own the same guitar, but one year older and made of koa wood instead of mahogany for the body. 1917 Martin 1350 koa. It is simply delightful. It sounds so sweet it actually makes me euphoric.
Good job ! Brother✌️🤓
How much is the price ?
@@TOMTOM-zj5xj probably around $4000 but I haven’t listed it yet
@brotherdavemusic406 Thank you 🙂 Bro ! ✌️🤓
You are right, amazing video for who enjoy this kind of dreadnoughts. I'm thinking in purchase one Larrivée 12 fret dreadnought, because the Martins are trully expensive. Also, I think you did a great job showing the features of both guitars, real playing with good taste...not overdid. About the instruments: I'm a mahogany guy, but the rosewood in this 12 fret bodies have something special, really to think on it...
Very nice comparison. the 28 sounds a little more balanced (and deeper) than the 18. But I'm sure I would be happy with either one of them. thanks again.. by the why, your strumming is very good. I esp. like the fast strumming comparison starting at around 8:57. Again well done👏👏
@@harmur80 thank you!
Awesomeness!😊
👏👏
Sounds great!👏👏
@@SunnySummers thank you!
Both are obviously amazing!! Hate to be cliché lol but yeah, I'd be beyond happy with either.. I've got a Gibson Advanced Jumbo that I'm so thankful to have.. I think it's Gibsons best acoustic they offer.. Well, I've never owned or even played a J200, so I guess I can't really say that. Lol.. As much as I love my AJ and don't ever see myself parting with it, I still prefer Mahogany back and sides over Rosewood.. Anyway, lol. Do you offer a Layaway plan? Haha!!! Awesome Hummingbird!! 🤘
I would love to add vocals. Message me if you're interested.
Year?
@@marceloferreira7878 I believe this was a 2024 but it had some bracing issues so I sent it back.
Did you sell O 18?
@@thesundreamers8423 yeah I sold that a while ago. I’m getting a 1918 00-18 in later this week which should be fun but kind of a different animal
I'm a '57 vintage. Does that thing have a "month" of manufacture? Do you have still shots available (showing any defects)? Sounds great!
@@larryb7047 I’m not sure what the month was I sold it so I can’t look at this point but I don’t remember any particular month being listed although I’m sure someone could figure it out based on serial number

Cracks in a 2024 guitar? 😮 I’m under the impression that it takes years for that to happen. I’m in the market for a Hummingbird, saw a few at Carter. I was about a few thousand $ short. If I could play like you, I would have found the loot.
@@ZeitlanKozan it was damaged before initially being sold so I got it at a discount. My guess is the damage came from a strike not humidity related but I’m not sure the reason.
Just bought the Epiphone inspired by Gibson SJ 200. I love it. Can’t afford the Gibson
@@mikesing01 they make great guitars no shame in an Epiphone. Enjoy it and congrats!
Sounds Sweet 😊
I think the 35 sounds a little clearer, especially on the bass strings than the 28, at least when playing the regular non- capoed rhythm. Much of the time, they both sound very similar, almost to the point that if you weren't watching and only listening you wouldn't know when you switched guitars. I own an '86 D-35 myself that I bought new. From my own experience, the 28 is maybe a little easier to pick lead on because of the slightly narrower/thinner neck.
Great playing!
Pick is to thick.. really can't get the true tone of the guitar because of the loud clicking of the pick..
@@liberalsrmentallyflawed3611 good feedback I always use a thick pick I’ll record some videos with a thinner pick too
I should send you up my 1972 D-35 and have you play it for everyone. Totally put back together after separating in 3 pieces by Carter Vintage after the Nashville flood in 2010.
great stuff but completely differnt guitars I have actually had both,,,,the sinker being a 12 fretter changes everything...a standard 14 fret sinker dread is magical...btw I really prefer the 42 here!!! thanks
Man, that Martin is something else. Beautiful guitars!
What song are you playing at 602?
Amsterdam by Gregory Alan Isakov was around the 6:02 mark
Amsterdam starts at about 5:10 and goes until about 6:28 then I play House Fire by Tyler Childers in drop D
Standard sounds better to me. Looks better too...

Beautiful Hummingbird! I have a Gibson Songwriter sunburst .
I take them all.
Cracks happen in Dry heat like the desert or during the heat of the winter months. You ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT leave this guitar out all night in winter. The dry heat from your house will shrink/crack it. Get a humidipak, play the guitar 3 hours tops, put it back in its case during winter months and you wont get cracks, dont be a fool and leave it out in dry weather.
She’s a beauty! Nice playing 🎸😎
Gruhn spec 12 fret gets the ham
I have a Hummingbird Original and A Southern Jumbo Original.. had both for 2 1/2 years. Hummingbird has 1 hour total strumming on it. Got the frets wore down on the Southern Jumbo.. 5 months ago, I purchased a Martin D18 Standard natural finish.. Southern Jumbo never leaves the case now. So, 2 weeks ago. I also bought an Ambertone finish D18.. found my forever guitar now. Listed the natural finish for sale. Don't want 2 D18s... I like them all. And the 2 Gibson have their place. The D18 is an all around great guitar..
I once went into a Brooks Brothers store to by some pants and I asked how much a particular pair was, and they guy literally said, "if you have to ask, you maybe shouldn't shop here". If I went into the Martin section of a music and shop and saw this guitar, I'd probably be in the same situation. At that price, I would definitely be calling it one of my favorites too, but kidding aside, it would be great to experience. I have a Martin GPC-16e, so a 'cheap?' Martin, but still a Nazareth-made Martin. I too am a sucker for unique guitars, but I wish I had the budget for them. I found this video to hear another D18, but sort of to gauge the overall sound as I am searching for the right 12-string. But - you can't go wrong with a D18, now can you. Is this the one up on Reverb at David's Shop?
@@mikeward2922 yeah it’s for sale on reverb and I have it on my Facebook marketplace profile for less since there’s no fees to contend with.
The Gibson was out of tune, thats not fair
