Another Air Compressor Offset Smoker Build!
This is an old 60-gallon air compressor tank that my friends asked me to turn into a smoker for them. It has 1/8" wall thickness and was in pretty rough shape. All around the build was fun and interesting. I wound up making a more square/rectangular door for the cook chamber due to extreme warping of the original door piece. I think it turned out great!

This is a quick video showing how I built our patio sign at the brewery. We wanted a place where we could display our weekly specials and events going on in the taproom. DIY Offset Smoker Build Using an Old Air Compressor Tank
มุมมอง 27K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
I acquired an old 80-gallon air compressor tank from my work and decided to turn it into a smoker! The tank is roughly 3/16" thick. I made a simple frame using 2" square tubing and some 6" locking casters. The firebox is made with a V-Bottom to it which helps create and maintain a good coal bed. It has a roughly 1" air gap insulation around the bottoms and the sides. I really enjoy how this coo...

    I’ve seen Allen form Allens welding / woodworking do doors like that. I’ve cut the opening out on the end of the chamber where the fire box is going to go and slid in, welded some straps in where the door is going to be, if you make some of the cuts and shine a light on the outside of the chamber you can see where the door will be, this really helps with the door springing when you make the final cuts but believe me it’s a very messy job with all the oil and grease that’s in there with it being a compressor tank, but well worth it in the end.

    • @fabmakebuildcook6274
      @fabmakebuildcook6274 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SD-rq2ob I’ll have to look back into Allen’s videos to see. I know he does octagon chambers that are similar but can’t remember a tank build. I did weld in some crappy braces on the inside of the door prior to cutting out but they were only small chunks of square tubing and not contoured to the inside radius at all. So only 6-points of contact. Rookie move on my part. You nailed it on the head with the messy job comment! Not fun. Thanks for the feedback!

      I tend to angle the gun up a bit and continuously use a spiraling motion while traveling downwards. It keeps the arc at the front of the puddle for the bottom half of the spiral for decent penetration, and builds up the weld on the top half of the spiral. There’s probably better ways but this works for me and is relatively quick and uniform. Hope this helps!
