How to Polish Guitar Frets
มุมมอง 90K7 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I demonstrate how to clean up nasty, corroded frets. Many times, just using steel wool and polish will suffice. This guitar, however, needed a more aggressive approach.
How To Restring An Electric Guitar Properly (Vintage-style)
มุมมอง 36K7 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I take you through the process I use to restring an electric guitar. This will apply to most electric guitars, but specifically deals with slot-head tuners.
How To Restring An Acoustic Guitar Properly
มุมมอง 2.8M8 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show you the best method for changing strings on an acoustic guitar. I also include a few extra tips and tricks from years of restringing hundreds of guitars.
How To: Mesa Style Leather Cabinet Corners
มุมมอง 11K8 ปีที่แล้ว
I show how to install Mesa Boogie style leather corners on your amplifier or cabinet. You can purchase the leather corners and tacks from Mesa's store site here: mesa.stores.yahoo.net/guampco.html
I wish I saw this video yesterday. Changed the strings on the guitar yesterday but it keeps going out of tune. Newbie here.
Great video. Luthier knot.
I just snapped my new G string
It’s not that hard!!! Too many words and quirks. Good intentions but it’s much simpler in practice.
PPL say pulling on string to create tension at peg is the WRONG way to string a guitar cuz it creates a groove like a saw that slowly destroys ur pegs.
U could Literally JUST say counter clockwise! U didn't show peg insertion or I didn't find it
lets take 29min to do a 6 min video
There are plenty of short videos out there if that’s what you’re looking for. My goal was to give a more detailed explanation.
I’ve been doing this for so many years and showed so many how I was taught. You did a great job and a great service. Don’t you wish TH-cam was around when we were young. Great work thanks on behalf of the community. But the string companies are gonna put a hit out on ya. How will they ever selll the over priced single strings. John P.S. I like your knot same as I’ve used for the past 40 years. I did notice I always go from bottom up from the nut, especially with finicky Gibson thanks great job who have you toured with?
My strings don’t have a ball end what do I do !!????
First time restringing my acoustic guitar and I really appreciated this great video. It wasn't rushed and easy to follow along. Thank you!
Why else dont you prefer the second simpler method? Is it just because of the sharp end?
I do use the “simpler” method from time to time. One example is on a pedal steel guitar because access to the posts is tight. But the reason I don’t prefer it is because on very rare occasion I’ve had that method slip on me during a show while stretching them. 99% of the time it’s fine, I’ve just never had that problem with my preferred method.
I am currently working on my video for my channel in reference to refinishing my fretboard and frets. I’ve already made one big mistake, which I have a TH-cam short on, but I am glad I found your video. I will definitely reference this video in my description and in the video as well. 🐀
Awesome video Bro. Thanks for taking the time to go over everything clearly.
Best explanation I’ve found on TH-cam and slow enough that I can follow. Thanks.
Super
Thanks😂
Great instructions. I've seen a few of these videos, and this is the best one! Your acoustic version is also excellent. Thanks!
9:50 the part you’re looking for
I know this is an eight-year-old video, but it is the best. I am just a beginner, and while tuning the high E string. I tightened too much and broke the string. I searched for the easiest re-string and found your video. Thanks.
Does the biggest string start all the way at the right or left?
This is not how I’ve ever put strings on. That looks like a nightmare if a string snaps while performing.
Bro I just took off all the strings at once
Thanks pal great way 👍
Ok❤❤❤❤🎉
Hey guys come here I found a normal person.
None of this makes any sense
Thank you 😊
This is the only video you need to restring an acoustic guitar....great video
Excellent video, thank you
I like doing it the way he prefers, with the end under the turning string. BUT, just turn the string down, the left over string will be under the turning string. Making it less poki and less likely to come loose.
I was done but my string broke😭
That was so well explained. Thank you!
Looking for whether to soak the corners or what to do and watched your video.. I’m making a 1x12 closed back that is not a bit smaller than my 50 caliber head.. mostly in the style that they made in the late 80s early 90:… yours looked good and good video.. Carry on my good man ;)
My story is too long to explain why your video was so helpful and important to me. I do have some cognitive impairment issues from 2 strokes in 2022. Not surprisingly, The first video I chose cost me many hours and 3 strings. Thanks to your incredibly detailed and instructive video, my 50+year old Yamaha F-150 is perfectly strung and pitch perfect. I can’t thank you enough. 👏👏👏🌟⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am 45, when I was 20 I saved money 3 month to buy an Esteve, I wasn’t very good with my lessons, not much of progress. 25 years later I pulled her off, cleaned, and gone restring. She followed me in all my last 25 years of moving, up and down. But I always been convinced that I will return to her.
Very helpful. Thank you very much!
Aesthetically, the common way to wind the strings, without the knot, is more pleasing to the eye and cleaner looking. I have never had a “once in a blue moon” issue of slippage. And for sure, it’s much easier to remove without having to untie a knot! Great that you show both ways. 👍
THANK YOUUUU
Plsss reply me Can i use metal polish to make the frets shine?
Yup, metal polish works. Just protect the fretboard with masking tape
@@fixthethings Thank you very much
@@fixthethings thanks bro It's helped me alot
I know this video is old but I just got a cheap guitar and I wanna learn but I could tell the strings probably never been replaced. I was so scared to mess it up. Till I found your video!!! Thank you for making me feel like I could do it. I did it and I tuned it! Thank you for making it simple and for people just starting to learn the knowledge of a guitar and the up keep. Thank you for the encouragement.
Love to hear it! That’s why I made the video, glad it helped you out
Video: Don't worry just do it! Me: immediately breaks expensive string while tightening it I am extremely mad, this video sucks
Strings aren’t hard to come by, you can always get more. Also, the video didn’t break your string.
@@fixthethings I was just changing my first acoustic guitar string after having a classic guitar for a long time, so when in the video it says to just go hard and not worry, I did it like it was a nylon string and it snapped immediately It was my fault for having my first string I change on an acoustic be a Elixir and not having replacements handy, I ended up extremely sad and annoyed because I couldn't actually play my new guitar so I vented on the video that made me break a string, as is my right, I re-stringed the whole guitar now and it's all good, but at the moment I was fuming
also, not a problem with just your video, I watched quite a few and found none of them actually taught the finicky and annoying parts of the process, it reminded me of that meme "draw some circles - now draw the rest of the fucking owl" because everyone says "leave x space, now I'll hold it here and there you go, now it's done" when the part they should be explaining is how you are trying to get the slack to go around the peg and guide where the string is coiling and then it should tighten, noone explains that part properly, I learned it just by getting hands on with the strings and messing up a couple of times your vid was the worst tho, just telling people to go hog wild, how dare you? /jk
Have a Yamaha FG5 you have taught me to replace strings properly I use Santa Cruz mediums you are the man
These are now 10 times the price. what crooks.
isn't there a pin puller on your string winder????
Usually, yes, but I grind them off my winders so they don’t accidentally scratch the side of headstocks. I’m constantly getting this comment, I just never mentioned it because my winders don’t have them so I don’t think about it often.
Hum a tech but u dont know why you wind it that way ? Well its because if you wind it the other way it puts more stress on the bridge slot and could potentially damage or break the bridge for you wondering this is why you wind strings to the inside
That’s just plain untrue, your bridge will not break. There are plenty of guitars that have more extreme angles of strings through the nut, and they don’t break bridges. Yes, it minimizes the angle and therefore the tension, but it’s not going to break a bridge.
I said potentially never said it was and FYI on cheaper guitars I've actually seen the bridges pull right off so it very much potentially can happen
I thinking you’re mixing up the words “nut” and “bridge”.
Great video, thank you!
I prefer old and nasty on some parts...RocknRollflat5
If this needs a fix over, it is an understatement ..this is going to b good....RocknRollflat5
Thank you! You helped me not be so anxious about changing my strings.
your "sandwitch" broke my brand new string, "master"
It did not. If it caused string breakage, then all my strings would break too, “commenter”.
