Zdenko de Zagreb -Art Music Life
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ก.ค. 2022
My channel focuses on the art and music I have created over the past 50 years. My body of art works is primarily oil on canvas and works on paper. The art videos are short with some of my eclectic sound designs as background. My music videos are full length ambient and primal pieces, deep, lush, lovely. I have uploaded my complete albums, so listen on a good sound system and immerse yourself in the space. Enjoy!

ALTERED STATES "Alien Womb" - EXPERIMENTAL PERCUSSION (Is this music?) Zdenko de Zagreb (See Notes)
ALL MUSIC IS PSYCHEDELIC for the lucky! By definition it means causing effects on the mind, even altered states of consciousness. Any music lover is aware of how a piece of music can change your mood and perception of time and space. Further more, studies have shown that the mind enters into trance like states after about ten minutes of listening to a piece of music. This piece is LONG, SLOW and DEEP, I've listened to it numerous times, and I am amazed at where it puts me. Definitely not for everyone, but, if you enjoy new sonic experiences, dive in! Oh, it is BLACKSCREEN!
"Altered States" a 1980 movie, dealt with experiments in isolation tanks. I wish I had one, the nearest thing I have is a vintage cast iron "claw foot" tub filled with warm water, lol. I can only imagine what it would be like floating in an isolation tank with this piece playing. Can you? Close your eyes and Enjoy!
More about this piece: (if interested)
Over a year ago, when I started using a lap harp which I had sitting around for years, I attached a contact mic inside the sound chamber and I fell in love with the instrument, however, by pure accident while hammering the strings I struck the hollow body and the sound it produced caught my attention immediately, I've used that technique on several pieces of music including most of my collaborations, but , I wanted to create a longer piece featuring these "thumps", well here it is. I limited myself to just the thumps, recorded solo on a mono track with no, synths, background track , drone, multi tracks or loops, just the thumps, each one unique in tonality, resonance, texture and intensity depending on which instrument body was used and where and how hard it was struck, then I applied FX and individually panned and adjusted the volume of each, to "place" it on a vast sound stage that comes close to being holographic (I don't have "Atmos" capability, all my gear is two channel stereo). Each burst sounds like an isotropic sonic grenade going off at various angles on the horizon, their shock waves passing through and around you, some from far off in the distance and others almost in your face. There are many unexpected spaces throughout this long piece, even for me, and I created it, the dynamics go from booming to whisper quiet, right to the end, just when you think you've heard it all, it will engulf you, it can get visceral, I may be delusional about all of this, but, that is what keeps me going! Sorry, about so many words for what is basically a minimalist piece. If you came this far, thank you for hanging with me!
Finally, it is my New Years resolution to be more adventurous, courageous, and share more thoughts, not because it matters, only because I want to! Best Wishes for the New Year! Good riddance to the last one!

THE CLOSER TO DEATH, THE FREER! These sessions were uninhibited, no hesitation or thought of what others might think, just an outpouring of emotion. Hello friends, My wife and I had a difficult year. After a self imposed exile from my studios and YT, I recently returned to my beloved Blue Grotto recording studio and felt I could breath again. I was ecstatic and uninhibited creating these simple progressions with tender and sentimental phrasings, unashamed of the flourishes to b...

This piece has no pretensions of intellectualism, no narrative, no message, it is just a "mind numbing" simple tune that goes nowhere, but, may lull you into a relaxed state of mind, and perhaps "lift" body and spirit. If you close your eyes, maybe you can stop your internal dialog for a little while, and only be aware of the slowly expanding ripples of sound moving through the air, and you! En...

Physics tells us that all matter (sub atomic particles) are created by fluctuations (wave functions) in the quantum fields, coming into and out of existence constantly. These pieces are very slow, but, never static, slowly evolving , with no looping, layering or dubbing, just FX, (mostly reverb/delay). A very well executed musical video. Ambient is the music I use to compose many years ago. Good work here👍
OMM, Thank you so much!
@ OMMA says you are very welcome👍
Dear friend Zden! Listening through the headphones, I entered a kind of meditative state. An imaginative image appeared to accompany the feeling, according to which I was floating in space and hearing the breath of Brahman. This further enhanced the immersion. My friend, you are more than a musician! Bravo! 👌
Hey PS, I am honored by your gracious comments! I wasn't thinking of a deity when creating this piece, but, your interpretation certainly applies, especially if one views the universe and existence in a darker light as I do. My syrupy ambient works try to bring out the lighter side, however, just as important to me is trying to capture the dark side, and based on your catalog of splendid works, I know you do the same! Thank you my friend! BTW, I plan on uploading a trilogy of some really painful music soon!
I could see and feel the heartfelt deep emotion in the piece, very moving 🙏🏼
Thanks Walt, Happy New Year to you!
love your music Zdenko

Thanks Fred, and the best for 2025 to you!

Very honored it got your listen! Longer listens are a real luxury in our busy lives, I cherish them, and at times I pity the majority that don't know what they are missing! Best for the New Year!
Beautifully mournful.
Thanks Samuel Beckett is my favorite playwright, if your not aware, his entire catalog is on YT, "Beckett on film" ! Keep creating, at least in between gigs, etc etc seems your always involved in new adventure, yeah man!
I LOVE THESE SONIC EXPERIMENTS! The zoo scene in Altered States enters my mind upon hearing this.
Thanks, that little SK1 was my first contact with digital technology in my meager work space! Everything was "experimental" in those days!
This is definitely music to me. But of course I am a percussionist lol! This is ONE OF THE MOST HYPNOTIC EXPERIENCES EVER!!! You continue to impress... WELL DONE AGAIN!! Coincidentally, Altered States is one of my all-time favorite films! It has been a big inspiration on me through the decades. I still own an old DVD of it that I frequently enjoy in the blue-ray player. Another coincidence is that it was released the year I was born. August of 1980 is when my crazy adventure began.
Thank you Jesse, Undeniably, there is something in our works that draws us together, ever since I found you banging on the old piano in your basement, lol. Best wishes for the New Year my talented friend!
@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal Thank you 🙂 happy 2025 to you too.
this is awesome.
Thank you Bergemann, I have been off the radar for 10 months, I need to catch up with many YT friends, you included! I should have thought of you when I uploaded this piece! Best wishes for the New Year!
When sounds are meaningful than it is music.
Thank you for your view, Ernst! I would go a step further, if it is meaningful to the creator, it is music. Similarly, with art, as Duchamp put it long ago, "Art is what the artist says is art." I find that comforting, with a house full of my paintings I feel like Picasso. lol Best wishes for the New Year!
Very cool 😎. Thank you Zdenko for this amazing music presentation. Super well done as always this is so intoxicating and peaceful 😌. Just what the world needs right now and beyond 😌. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
Hey Marc, thank you for checking out this very experimental piece, I always appreciate your support!
Definitely is my thing!👍🏻
Thank you my dear! Experiments are never a sure thing, but, we have to try! Best wishes for 2025!
Oh, how beautiful it is to start the year with such a pleasant and relaxing musical experience, dear Zdenko! Thank you so much, and a very happy New Year to you and your family! Yeah, of course, this is music-music by ZdZ! The boundaries of the definition of music are quite broad... full of nuances, and it greatly depends on who’s trying to define it. I always say: I like it, or I don’t like it. The definition belongs to other, less important planes... but many arguments can be made to support one perspective or another. I often doubt the music I make, which is why I usually define it as a musical attempt or experiment... mainly because I’m not a musician! This 'Altered States'-I like it! It’s enough, my friend! I also liked that old movie whose title, like you, I’ve often tried to borrow for my experiments. I think from now on, I won’t be able to steal it from you! LOL... although, with my fragile memory... who knows! A big hug, and may 2025 bring as much peace and serenity as this wonderful track! Big hug!
Thank you Aldo, for taking so much of your valuable time for such nice comments! Yes, there can be many reasons for hesitation on releasing my music, especially pieces so far off the mainstream, but, as I stated on my little New Years resolution, to be more adventurous and courageous is the goal, and with ever present support from good friends like you it is so much easier to stick one's neck out! All the best for 2025!
Dear Aldo, I don't know if you have heard, but, our friend ARTSAVA, Sergey passed away Dec. 21, I will miss his presence. Even though he was so much above me in his musical skills, talent and knowledge, he took time to exchange ideas with me.

@@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal Oohhh! Nooo! What enormous sadness my friend! His long absences here had me worried! I admired his courage to face his fantastic productions but I never had greater contact than what YT gave us to comment on our works... I always imagined him as a young innovative boy... I don't know, maybe not, maybe yes, but this news hits me strong! I hope he has his space somewhere in that other dimension to continue creating and enjoying this great passion for music! RIP!

The growl is intensely stimulating with headphones, lying down with eyes closed in a dark room. The harmonics sort of reminds me of whale sounds from many years ago used for meditation. This had the same sensory/visual effect. Especially when my eyes hadn't completely adapted to the dark. The phosphenes were still active with hallucinatory images doing their thing. Pretty slick! Kudos!
Thanks Meta, I thought the Blackscreen would help create the sensations you describe so well. Glad you used headphones, which I think this piece requires to get the soundstage effect, or a sound system properly set up with that sweet spot between the speakers, but, I didn't want to make the description even longer than it was! Hope you have a great New Year!
Happy New Year Z (yes - hoping it's better than the last one, though....lol). This has such deep resonance, as you say it reverbarates in every corner and to my mind seems perfect meditation material. With guests here today, (I am nearing 10 mins here) I will find time for this in its entirety in a quieter moment. Fascinating title too btw! 💚
Thanks Rob, by all means enjoy your guests, priority one!
@@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal I took in the full hit yesterday morning and Wow!...this piece is really something. Top work and very inventive my friend. 👍👍

Thank you again, Micheal! I am sure that soon you will realize my faults and shortcomings as a traditional musician, I judge my own and others works by the effect they have on me, overlooking imperfections. I will be uploading a piece at midnight which is entirely based on a mistake, you may find it interesting! Enjoy your New Year! @@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal Well, “Honor thy error as a hidden intention” (as Brian Eno said...). 🙂 Don't worry, I'm not a "proper" instrumentalist myself. Not at all...
This is very beautiful and really takes me on a journey. 🙂 Are there any synths involved at all (the bass drone, maybe...) or are all the soundscapes treatments of the harp with dely, reverb etc.?
Micheal, thank you so much! Although, I have used synths in the past (mainly the Yamaha DX7, a dinosaur by today's standards), this piece is all lap harp with FX, but, as I am sure you are well aware, the FX available today are magical. The drone was a happy incidental byproduct of the FXs interacting and creating beautiful artifacts, which I embrace. There are a few present day musicians that have been drawn into exploring what is referred to as "no input" mixing, I did a little bit in 1982, if interested check it out. th-cam.com/video/phRil6i5M3g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w6a7NnSMtfrrG4ac Thanks again, a pleasure exchanging thoughts with you!
@@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal Thanks for the link, most interesting indeed! 🙂 A while ago, I started to experiment with a (cheap and simple) electric guitar and also a zither (which I both can't play properly yet) to generate soundscapes, using FX chains. Heraclitus really nailed it with that ‘never step into the same river twice’ thing. Good to hear you making music again. They don’t give me much free time at the pavilion, an hour in the yard, and 30 mins every other day in the music room, so if I don’t comment much, that’s why. As I type this, there’s a guy behind me we in the happy ward affectionately call “Crazy Karl” and he gets really angry if he doesn’t get his computer time, so I best sign off now. Regards, AP.
Yeah, they beat me nightly and throw me in a ditch near a tree, pity we haven't got a bit of rope!
Very nice. Love the rolling piano lines. Welcome back. Merry Christmas!
Thanks AP, I was very pleased with the results, after a 10 month gap I didn't know what to expect.
Information, spacetime and matter. The sight of a lonely planet orbiting in infinite spacetime and the vast ocean offers the promise of permanence. But all this is just an illusion....in the end everything disappears. Not only matter, time also becomes nothing along with space, and only information flows without structure. These are the thoughts that this inspiring music brought to the surface in me. Congratulations Zden! 👌 Merry Christmas! 🌠🎄
Hey Protostellar, You are correct, all we can do is make the best of it while we're here! So enjoy your Holidays my friend!
A beautiful and calming piece my good friend. Single instruments are often lost in the mix of big productions...it is so refreshing to concentrate on the beauty of one or other as your Impromptus series does so well. Delightful visuals here too. That cello belongs to the cosmos without borders, its resonances reach the indefinite limits of infinity... of our unknown souls... but also of our uncertain interior and our heart! Bravo! Congratulations for creating your art again after the forced exile that kept us in suspense for your health and your own existence! Thanks my friend! Thank you! A hug and happy holidays, with yours! 🤗
May you and your girls have a peaceful and Merry Christmas day and season! We will have time for philosophy later! Thank you for your friendship!
🤗
Mystical creation Zdenko !!, A treat to experience…thanks friend…jeff
Jeffrey my friend, so nice of you to say so! These impromptus were single takes with no editing except adding FX, so they do seem to ramble on sort of like a stream of consciousness. Happy Holidays my friend!
love the haunting mood ❤
Thank you Layla! These impromptus are sentimental I admit! Happy Holidays!
So very peaceful…heavenly vibrations ❤️🎶💕🎄❤️
So kind of you, Happy Holidays!
@@ZDENKOdeZAGREB-AmbientPrimal Thank you so much Dear Friend! Wishing you & your loved ones a very Merry Christmas & most joyous holiday season 🎄🎄🎄
What should I say. It's wonderful. 💎🎶
Very much appreciated, Happy Holidays!
Zdenko, you've managed to create something completely new and original. This track has surprised and fascinated me. I can't wait to hear what you do next. Happy Holidays my friend!!!
Hey Marcus, I held off on replying because I saw your RIP not about ending Intramoenia but lost it before I had a chance to read it completely and then I couldn't find it, until I went to your community tab, (I usually don't go to them because few artists use them and I got tired of checking) anyway, I wanted to tell you how much I liked reading your post there, even though some of them were troubling, because I could see you struggling with many issues all us artist face. I would like to discuss some of them in the future, however, your post about supporting Peter at the now dormant "Songs for Sleepwalkers" channel caught my eye. I thought you might be interested in a dialog we had when I just discovered his "Ambient Ideas" channel. th-cam.com/video/Ij6wLYY60lc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=a96A95RMvKvwUrQS the piece was his "Song for a Warped Piano" from 2 years ago. Oh by the way thank you for your lovely comment!
