I just replaced the OEM thermostat with a Dorman aftermarket for under $17; it seemed to have the same metal supports as the OEM. Found the failure of the original Ford thermostat with under 90k miles was due to the gasket seat for the thermostat actually came loose from the sealing surface, and just wedged it open as it cooled down. Not something that I'd expect should have happened with a factory part, but that's why it just flowed all the time.
I didn't remove anything when I changed it, with a 8mm socket and extension, the bolts were easily accessible and visible through the manifold at the dipstick. Hardest part was pulling off the hose from the old housing, it was pretty well stuck on. Removing the hose from the bottom allowed it to be pulled off more easily.
Just finished. Removing the head lamp assembly was genius. Although it still wasnt easy. Ended up havin to buy some 10” straight and 45 degree needle nose pliers. Needed both to remove and reinstall the hoses and clamps. Used every size extension I own with my 1/4 and 3/8’s ratchets for the repair. Also it took a couple cycles for the new thermostat to function properly,
I chose to remove the 2 fender bolts on the top of the fender and lifted the headlight out. I didnt have to remove any of the wheel well shrouds or screws. I took the 2 body clips off of the bumper on the top to the right of the headlight and lifted it a bit to access the 3rd bolt. Your headlight idea was genius. Now I just need to find the 8mm I launched into my garage.
That's the power steering reservoir I beleive lol I don't think the starter has one but great video, I gotta get my thermostat out to do a head gasket seal additive for this crappy ford 2.0
no doubt this is the way to do it...i bet this is how the dealer does it too...couple tips though...ger a extendable magnet picker upperer at the autopart store thats no bigger than a nickel...also get a pair of small locking pliers because its hard to get the clamps off...also have a flashlight...thank you sir...however i still wound up at mechanic because it was actually a corroded wire on a sensor that gave me a false high temp light on cylinder head...but if i didnt change it the place told me i needed a thermostat...300$....told them i already did that they did a flush...still overheated so they found the sensor wire lol
i remember when changing the thermostat was 10 bucks and 10 minutes...im looking at half a day of suck and 100 plus bucks for that contraption...im going to start riding a bike everywhere
good video thanks man only thing is you can get to the 3rd headlight bolt by just taking off the grill with those 4 push pins instead of the 2 bolts on the bumper. if anyone is dealing with the heater hose leaking take the battery, battery tray and throttle body off to get so much more access
This video was a great help! I watched several videos with far more complex processes for getting stuff out of the way, but taking the headlight off was very quick and gave way more access than anything else I was finding online. Thank you for making this!
i was gonna pay a friend 100 dollars to do it for me because i didnt want to mess with the pulley but after this video i did it myself Thank You for taking your time to make this video keep them coming gonna like and subscribe
But, honestly, you kinda saved my life, too, yo. I couldn't figure out where the stupid thermostat was at all on my own....... AND I been running around with my nose shoved into a haynes manual..... Nice work. 😁 You showed me where the stupid thing is and a better approach than the manual more than likely would direct me, meaning my neighbors won't have to hear me screaming obscenities at my car or take cover in case of random flying tools being thrown out of anger.
Just got done doing one. This video did the trick as for saving time.
Bro show us how you took it off
Legend
Thanks man 🙏🏽 being a one person unit isn't easy but 🫡 to you for teaching us 💯
-youn done a great job. ggs
Did it fail with the thermostat stuck open and trip the P0128 trouble code?

Did you have the thermostat with the sensor there? And will that install procedure work on the SE too?

Thank you for making this! Where did you get the part and How much was it? I went online and it gave me a bunch of different prices.
Thank you. I was going to take my car the shop, but watching this can do it my self .
Thank you I’ve been stressed about this thermostat and how to take it off without all the extra stuff
So how hard is it to get those bolts back in and how long did it take you
The easy way 😂😂😂😂😂
You sound like Randy Moss bro

Man, i could give you a big hug. Taking the headlight out was brilliant. Ty for making this video.
Great video, thanks! I replaced mine today.
Thank you the best video I seen so far any one have a better suggestion. Please let me know . I am terrible at working with tight spaces
Totally agree. This engineering was designed to make you mad at it and break something else

Great job ! You explained it well !
After job is done how much coolant needs to be poured back into the focus radiator?

Your video really helped me out! Thank you for making it!!!
It's snows wherever you live .
The coolant is all you have to drain? Or do u gotta drain the power steering too?
MORE ROOM IN THE VICS
Yo tengo un focus se 2010 pero me preguntaba si es el mismo termostato o es el que trae sensor?
Wow would have never thought about vice grips for the clamp to hold it. Bud light presents real men of genius🫡

Do you know the name of the metal hose at 2 minutes
Starter reservoir? 😂 that’s a power steering pump reservoir my guy LMAO
Starter reservoir I'm dead🤣 In all seriousness though a fairly informative video good job
Going in through the headlight hole...great idea man!
Bro appreciate your service lol you just saved me so much time ✌🏽

How did you get the boat back in
