Ramen Studio
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ม.ค. 2024
Hey there, I'm Dave from Sydney. I've been a graphic designer for over 15 years, and I'm keen to share my ideas about how I make my work, and what goes into an average job. You'll see how I've made some of my favourite designs over the last few years, and hear about Ramen Studio, my full-service agency I've been running for 6 years.
I'm always happy to work with nice people with fun ideas, and I love bringing someone else's vision to fruition. I've been lucky enough to work with some massive brands, and companies that are taking their first steps. Every challenge is unique, and I take great pride in meeting the goals of my clients.
I'm also hoping to help newer designers find their own voice by giving portfolio reviews and showing how I'd approach certain tasks. If this sounds like something you're interested in, feel free to email me at review@ramenstudio.com.au

Rebranding Companies | How to approach the topic in a considered manner
How do you go about updating a brand when a logo already exists? This can be a bit of a challenge, as the client often has things in mind that they want to keep from the existing brand. In this video I discuss how I generate new ideas based on an existing logo, and how you can avoid offending a client when presenting your ideas.

Designing Graphics for Guitar Pedals | Illustration and the importance of flattening artworks
มุมมอง 1163 หลายเดือนก่อน
Have you ever wanted to design your own guitar pedal? I was lucky enough to help SEIMS create the artwork for their custom CAT pedal. This was a great project where I got to bring illustrations of a cat to life, and incorporate some fun elements that the client requested. I'll show you how we generated the idea for this project, as well as giving you some tips on how to flatten artwork for the ...
The 3 Rules for Drawing Rubberhose Style Characters
มุมมอง 4.7K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm back, and today I'm talking to you about rubberhose characters and how to illustrate them. I've been lucky enough to draw a few of these styled characters for clients, and always enjoy working on them. They're fun, bouncy, and you can't help but smile when you're sketching them. I'll show you some tips and tricks I've picked up along the years to make these look convincing, and show you how...
Vectoring Custom Lettering | Tips for Graphic Designers
มุมมอง 874 หลายเดือนก่อน
Howdy friends, today I wanted to talk about some custom lettering I created for a friend of mine. This vector lettering was a joy to make, and was part of a really fun project. I'll talk you through some ideas on how to sketch out your letters, how to take those letters into vector, and how to add a little bit of energy to your letters to make your design look finished. I also wanted to share m...

really instructive video. Haven´t found this rules anywhere else
Glad you enjoyed it! I called them rules which makes it sound like you HAVE to do them, but they're just the things that I think work best when designing like this.
im curious what your total fee is for a job like this? cheers
Hey there - good question! A few things about this job: - This was created for a friend, rather than a random client, so the price was significantly lower than I'd normally charge - The quote was also lower knowing that this was the beginning of a full brand rollout, and a lot more would be done. It's never great to scare off a client with a huge first invoice For the initial logo, I only charged $1,250AUD. Normally I'd charge about 3x this for branding, but I knew we had other jobs lined up, such as a brand book and some initial packaging.
Ik u only recently made ur channel but MAN U DESERVE MORE, +1 SUB
Hahah thank you! Appreciate the sub. All this recent love has pushed me to share more of my illustration work with the world. Hopefully have a new video coming soon.
@@RamenStudioDesign yippee
Okay I decided to send this on one of your newer videos.I am 12 years old however I want to create my own video game like cuphead so an Indie game and the design is rubber hose so that is why I want to ask you if you could somehow help me get characters or animations or even inspiration whatever you reply to this thank you in advance
Hey there, good for you! Making a game would be an amazing experience, but very challenging. I think the thing I've learned by watching lots of documentaries about video game productions - you need to focus on the game being fun first, and then the art style second. Do you have a game in mind?
@@RamenStudioDesign basically yes most of the plot I have got down I just need some help with the villains and main character design and what he is going to be there is going to two main good guy characters one boy and one girl and at least 12 villians but I mainly just need help with the two main characters
@@JR.Gaming1712 That sounds good man. My advice would be to look at lots of reference - watch some Max Fleischer cartoons, study what works about the characters you like, and try to introduce those aspects into your character designs. Good luck with it!
Ahh I found my people
Goodness I love this video, the vibe, the instructional content, the humor. Amazing video.
Hey thanks Jon! That's super kind of you to say. I've totally slacked off from making any new videos lately, but it seems like people like illustration - so expect a new one in the next week or so!
Do you know of any resources to learn the basics of rubberhose character design (skillshare, books, etc.). Like to learn how to draw the hands, feet.
The best way is to study the original source material. Look at things like Betty Boop, or anything the Fleischer's created.
Awesome tips! Rubberhose characters are so charming.
Thanks Micah. Just had a look at your videos - awesome work.
As someone that is new into graphic design industry and trying to make it their full time job this channel couldn’t have been suggested at a better time! I can’t wait to see what else you have installed!
Thank you for checking it out! Feel free to send me any questions you have along the way.
Man, as a beginner illustrator I want to tell you that this video helped me a lot. Thank you so much!
I can't tell you how happy that makes me to hear! Good luck on your illustration path. Feel free to send me some of your work for review if you're ever open to it ending up in a video.
What dat synth do
Very little on this one ;_;
Sorry that this comment has nothing to do with what was said in the video but are those OddBodz on the wall?
Fiiiinally the OddBodz are getting some respect. They sure are. I look at them quite a bit, and now realise just how influential they were on my style as a kid. Plus they glow!
Really good advice
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful.
Really great
Another masterpiece! ✨
Haha thanks!
I was actually thinking of doing character illustration in for this style and you're so on time. This was honestly very much educating. thank you so much ✨. Please keep up the good work and more tuts on such style.
Hahah great! Glad the timing worked out. I might make a video on some of the other pieces I've done like this, and show how I used the style to create some other characters.
Wow very nice Video keep making Videos!
I really appreciate you watching, and because you asked, I will!
This is the most underrated video I have ever seen in my life
Hahahah this is the best comment I've received so far, thank you. Next video coming in 2 weeks, stick around for it!
I never knew this style had a name
Yeah! I believe the name comes from way all the legs and arms look as bendy as a rubber hose. If you're interested, check out Max Fleischer's incredible work. Also worth checking out the Superman series he did, which is very different from what he's known for, but equally wonderful.
Me too! I've been in love with this style and been calling it disney old style of drawing, just knowing the name have helped find way more content about it
Well now u know!
Heck yes Dave!
Thanks for the fun project!
Again, I really enjoyed your presentation. I can’t believe I’m the first one to “like “ it here!
Haha, I suspect that might be the case for a while
*Promo SM* 😄
I got here from TH-cam feed and noticed a young channel. I'm always curious how they develop. I'm a graphics designer myself, upgrading my skills set to video editing and programming. Subscribed and looking forward to the next one! Wishing well!
Haha, I'm interested to see how it develops too! I've jumped ahead and made 3 project breakdowns so far, keen to see how they perform. First one is coming soon!
Looking forward to learning more about the work you do Dave. Thanks for sharing!
