It's not moving the saddle forward that causes knee issues. It's when you move the saddle forward and don’t also RAISE it that could cause some issue. As long as you raise the saddle when moving it forward you will be fine. Almost all knee issues are related to seat height and/or cleat position, not the fore-aft position of the saddle

Why it is not a good idea to size up (get a bigger shoe) when it comes to cycling shoes? It's about the CLEATS! When your shoe is bigger the cleat mounting holes get further away or more forward. This can cause all kinds of issues...like proper fore-aft cleat placement and more.
