Clean Energy—and More—at Tyto Solar
Madison Gas and Electric's (MGE) 6-megawatt Tyto Solar array in Fitchburg, Wis., is the company’s first renewable energy project to use sheep to help control ground cover. A flock of sheep from nearby Wiscovery Farm arrived at the solar facility in July 2024. The grazing sheep help control ground cover during the growing season, maintaining grass and brush in a sustainable way.
Tyto Solar is one of a number of projects to help MGE achieve our industry-leading carbon reduction goals. By 2030, we expect to deliver to MGE customers electricity with 80% fewer carbon emissions, and by 2050, we expect to deliver net-zero carbon electricity.

My Facia Boards and Eves went down with the 2+ feet of ice hanging and $6,000 in repairs. Since then ive been on a quest to Never have that happen again....Between Rafters of a house built in 1900 and Gable Ends being insulated - now that Ridge Vents are in place. CNG is great. In CA it’s subsidized by gasoline taxes. So it is half the cost. The Green movement is killing off CNG because it’s still combustion and whiles it burns very clean, it still burns. And that means greenhouse gasses in the emissions. Nope it’s going to be EV or you walk. They’re forcing the technology on us instead of letting the marketplace decide which fuel it wants to use.

  • @rlmeiller
    @rlmeiller ปีที่แล้ว

    Two of the biggest barriers to more widespread adoption of EVs are battery capacity and charging station availability. In the short term, the latter can help address the former, and I think it's fantastic that this fast-charging hub is located just a couple of blocks off the Square. Not only do they serve an area with increasing population density, but also growing visitor appeal, and they nicely complement Madison's focus on alternative transportation modes. In the future, I would like to see mini cafe-style "waiting rooms" so that people who are charging their cars can spend that 20 minutes enjoying a coffee or other beverage if they don't have other browsing or errands to run nearby.

    Back in the 80's Ford built an automobile called the Granada, a nice car for the money. They decided to build two alternative fuel vehicles based on this model, one on CNG and one on LPG for the auto expo in California. They drove the one on LPG to the show from Detroit and put the CNG one on a rail car and sent it by train. they did this because like today there was little to no infrastructure for CNG refueling. I worked for an LPG company at the time, all of our vehicles ran on LPG, vehicles used by management were dual fuel. The city west of us uses a lot of CNG vehicles, they have their own fueling depot which they do allow the public to use, but city vehicles take precedent. CNG is not really practical for the average person unless there is a refueling facility nearby. Even if there is natural gas at your home the installation of a high pressure compressor is very costly. LPG is more readily available than CNG even though it may cost more, I generally found it to be considerably cheaper than gasoline at that time, we sold motor fuel at about 30 % less than gasoline prices at local stations.

    • @flappingflight8537

      CNG yes , Diesel no ,when Diesels are converted to work on CNG ( as only monofuel) without injecting minimal portion of diesel fuel ( only for igniting the CNG/ air mixture ) , then they need spark producing ignition system as every other SI ICE, so spark plugs as well .

      I am no expert on CNG, but I do have quite a bit of knowledge about engines. I would say that in some ways running on CNG would be better for longevity than running on gasoline because natural gas burns a lot cleaner than gasoline, so there won't be the issues with carbon buildup that gasoline engines have. The oil would stay a lot cleaner for this reason too. Also, since CNG is a gas rather than a liquid, it won't wash the engine oil off the cylinder walls like gasoline can, and it also can not dilute the oil like gasoline can. Eliminating carbon deposits, cylinder wash, and oil dilution as well as keeping the oil cleaner are certainly benefits for longevity. As for potential longevity disadvantages, I can't think of any but I would suggest doing your own research. People say that the gasoline lubricates the engine's parts such as valves and rings, but it actually has the complete opposite effect by washing the oil off of the engine's parts.

    questions, my house is about 1200 SF. what is your advice for me to save $ on power bills between using central heater or using 2 space heaters to heat the house?

    • @mgemadison
      @mgemadison 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. It's a good one. You will not save money using an electric space heater unless you turn your central heating system down several degrees and use a space heater to warm just a small area. For any electrical device, the cost per hour of use depends on the wattage of the equipment. A typical electric space heater: - Uses 1,500 watts. - Produces 5,120 BTUs of heat per hour. - Costs 20¢ (at $0.130 per kilowatt-hour electric rate) to produce those 5,120 BTUs of heat. A 90% efficient natural gas furnace will cost less than 5¢ to produce that same amount of heat (at $0.80 per therm natural gas rate). Whether you pay $30 or $300 for a space heater, if it uses 1,500 watts, you will get the same amount of heat and pay the same cost per hour of use. Good luck!

      One of the best ways to save on heating is taking care of drafty doors & windows. I use blinds + curtains and my place holds heat very well. Even in the winter the heater barely even needs to run to satisfy the thermostat. It may run for a short amount of time at the coldest point of the morning, but it basically holds that heat all day.

    Not a great car to reflect as an Electric Vehicle. It is just a plug-in hybrid car which is only more complicated since it has an electric motor and a gasoline motor. It has all the benefits of both which can be a good transition; with a few disadvantages. I noticed that the family had another car, which makes it surprising that they did not go all EV as a second car.

    • @mgemadison
      @mgemadison 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are a great option for people who have to travel for their job or family activities. for example. All-electric vehicles offer many advantages! And more and more drivers are likely to go all electric as longer range vehicles like the Chevy Bolt become available. In the mean time, we want car buyers to know they have choices and it's not one size fits all. Here's a good link for more on the topic: www.greencarreports.com/news/1117400_battery-electric-vehicle-versus-plug-in-hybrid-why-having-both-makes-sense
