To all the folks in the comments who speak of their desire to "go back" or "turn back the clock." I ask you, was America ever great during this time? or did it just seem that way on television? When I thought of the USA as a child it was often John Williams' olympic and nbc themes that played in my mind, but I know now that the world and history is much more complex and multifaceted than a simple nostalgic memory. Reagan was busy impoverishing millions and decimating the working class, the crack epidemic was killing thousands, and the prison industrial complex was expanding to systematically incarcerate millions for profit. all happening as they played fanfares at the stadium in La. This America you are nostalgic for never existed. We must accept this and hope to build a better tomorrow for all people. A sentiment i'm sure the great composer would agree with!
Yeah, this is you putting the negative spin on a world that was getting better. Poverty was going down. The economy was gearing back up and industry was revitalizing. Race relations were getting better. The evil of Communism was dying and its grip on eastern Europe falling apart. The whole point is that this was the country that was building the better future, and the music reflects that reality.
@defenstrator4660 Indeed, things were getting better in many respects, but 40 years has brought us immense social progress, and we are better for it! My point is not to take away from your love of the media or the memory of that time. My point is that the world has become a much better place since and the 80s were not the perfect time or the peak of American society.
@@isabellajane8212 I don't remember it like this. This is not the performance I remember-not by a long shot.
confused - where is the opening Arneaux bugle theme? the classic '68 one? in any rendition now, i see that bit in the beginning, with people claiming john williams kept it in - but in this live video we don't hear it.

Attached is the full performance by the 1984 Pine Tree High School Marching Band "The Pride" from Longview, Texas under the direction of Dee Hood. Not only did they get it down, they finished 2nd in the state of Texas at the state 5A marching contest (largest classification at the time). Also, it is amazing that the sound quality of this high school band is so good for 1984 VHS video and sound technology. What he means by that is enriching his family like he did in 2020. He did nothing spectacular for the country in the four years he was president.
