Gardening on Lilac Hill
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ม.ค. 2024
My garden Lilac Hill is located on the West Coast of Canada nestled into the rocky hills of Mowat Bay. After a year of taming the land I can now grow many things including herbaceous perennials, pretty annuals many from seeds, I do container vegetable gardening and container rose gardening because of the deer. There are also trees, shrubs and herbs. I focus on plants that will provide benefit for the wildlife. Also for wildlife the garden has birdhouses, bug hotels, food and various water sources. The garden is 1/4 acre in zone 8. When I am not gardening I am planning new beds and structures, organizing my many plants on a spreadsheet, reading about plants or watching other gardeners on TH-cam. There is always something new to learn and I want to share my gardening knowledge and experiences with other gardeners. I also enjoy tea in the garden as many plants are steeped in tea culture. Lilac Hill is not only my garden it's my life!
Lilac Hill Garden in Bloom: June 2024 to December
This video showcases pictures taken of the property from June 2024 to Christmas 2024 showing all the beautiful plants that were nothing short of spectacular! Along with beautiful flowers you will see the finishing of the greenhouse we started in spring. We also built a tool shed with sliding barn doors. I had fun working on expanding the garden beds including the chicken run garden. The driveway was resurfaced and a cement retaining wall for the new patio was added. My garden is everything to me and I am so excited to start the 2024 year!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Lilac Hill!
มุมมอง 7414 วันที่ผ่านมา
It is so stormy outside I decided to share the inside of the house and how I have decorated for Christmas. This video will show the tree with its pretty ornaments, most are dated going back to the 1970's. The tree is full of memories of happy Christmases past spent with our family. Thank you everyone who watches my videos and I will be back in the New Year excited to start the 2025 season!!!
Stumpery Habitat, more Bulbs to Plant, and Late Fall Interest
มุมมอง 75228 วันที่ผ่านมา
The new habitat made from logs, stumps and driftwood looks nice and fits in with the tree stump all ready in the garden. I made 3 wreaths from the branches that came down in the storm and holly growing in the garden, they are so festive for the Christmas season. There are plants in bud for next year: Viburnum 'Rose Dawn', camellia 'Taylor's Perfection', hellebore 'Solar Flare' and my new helleb...
Beach-combing at Powell Lake and Branches for Christmas Wreaths
มุมมอง 82หลายเดือนก่อน
I went to Powell Lake just down the street to gather driftwood to use around the garden, it works great for edging the beds and the pieces are quite interesting. Lots of wood washes up on the shore of the lake after a big storm. It has been a very stormy November, we have had some very high winds and wild waves along the West Coast of British Columbia and Washington State. Luckily the trees aro...
A look at the Compost Area and more Bulbs for 2025!
มุมมอง 496หลายเดือนก่อน
I am still doing lots in my garden Lilac Hill as fall is a great time to do big clean ups! One area I organized and cleaned was the compost area behind the workshop. When we decided to build a compost area consisting of 3 bays we knew were would build it from concrete blocks and not wood. It is not the hottest part of the property but material still breaks down as I recently sifted compost to u...
New Wetland Area, Pruning the Honeysuckle, Bulbs for 2025!
มุมมอง 8522 หลายเดือนก่อน
The pond idea along the edge of the property wasn't going to work without bringing in a machine to dig it out. Way too much work, so I changed the area around the big boulders into a wetland and rain runoff habitat. The water naturally runs downhill so now it flows over the boulders and settles in a lined, boggy area. I hope it becomes a habitat as I hear frogs in the garden and I know we have ...
Fall projects including removing a rocky path to make a pond!
มุมมอง 8862 หลายเดือนก่อน
Our fall projects are well underway! We had a company come in take all the tripping hazards off the driveway and by doing this we got some beautiful new boulders for the garden. Off in the corner by the old hazel nut tree I removed the rocks from the path so now I have a new area to plant up! There are still bulbs to plant and the garden needs to be cleaned to get ready for bark mulch. Lots of ...
Apple Season with evidence of Bear Activity!
มุมมอง 1723 หลายเดือนก่อน
There has been lots of bear activity in our apple tree out front. The bears come late at night and they don't make a sound as they climb the tree and eat apples. I know there is more than one bear by the number of poop piles left behind! I don't mind sharing the apples, this is the biggest crop yet, we did pick a few dozen for eating. I don't know the variety, I do know our 1/4 acre property wa...
Fall Garden Project: The Chicken run Garden!
มุมมอง 2153 หลายเดือนก่อน
As the season shifts from summer to fall and the weather cools off, it is time to think about fall projects. The ground in my garden is very hard to dig in the dry summer, but after a few weeks of rain then it is easier to dig. I can often be found outside working in the pouring rain! The planned project for the fall of 2024 is the design and planting of the new chicken run garden. The area is ...
Projects almost complete including painting the door blue!
มุมมอง 3354 หลายเดือนก่อน
Summer has been very busy but as fall approaches I am starting to feel pressure to complete the projects. There is still some painting to do, the painting never seems to end! I pruned the lavenders and I still need to do the boxwood horseshoe hedge. I am already in planning mode for 2025 with lots of seed starting ideas! The Heliopsis mentioned is Burning hearts, not Bleeding hearts, so I still...

Butterfly Bush Come Back, Hillside and Wild Area

Hello, my name is Heather A. Webb and I garden in Powell River, British Columbia with my husband Terry. I design, plant and maintain all the garden areas and he builds the structures. This video shows the remarkable come back of the butterfly bush, the main plant in my new hillside garden. This bed is a work in progress as I am still pulling the weeds and amending the soil. Along with the hills...
Front Veranda with Lillies and Hostas
มุมมอง 1035 หลายเดือนก่อน
The covered veranda is a great place to keep the rest of the hostas from my collection. One hosta in particular is from my Aunt Sandra and she has been a big influence in my life, the hosta from her is very scented. I also grow the lilies here too it is nice to be up close to their fragrance. I take a few minutes each day to sit in my chair and read my gardening books or watch the anna's hummin...
Bees on Globe Thistle and Hostas in Bloom!

Summer is flying by and we have really been enjoying the garden. There is now a new tool shed with a wonderful barn door and we are continuing to work on the greenhouse from old windows. The garden is approaching its summer fullness and now I can see areas where I really need more colour. I miss the giant sunflowers I grew a few years ago! I also want to have zinnias again next year, I might pu...
Daisies and other Flowers at Sunset
มุมมอง 2.4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
As the garden changes and moves through summer, it is now the season for the daisies, phlox, culver's root, crocosmia and bee balm just to name a few. The hydrangeas too look especially vibrant with their big, blue flowers. I must have acidic soil for them to have such nice blue colouring. The deer come through regularly often biting plants and then dropping them on the ground, fussy deer! The ...

Your garden is beautiful 👍The fall colors are so nice 🍂🍁🍂🌝 Your greenhouse is really inspiring. I'm planning to build one as well. Greetings Heidi 👩🌾🌻
Thank you, my husband gets the credit. There is something so charming about old windows, looking forward to seeing your greenhouse.
Thank You!
Beautiful like you ❤
Beautiful flowers
We just learned with owe 6 feet behind our house and 4 feet beside our house with a survey. Amazing how neighbors think some of your property is theirs and then people move and new owners do not know it. Lesson: Every new homeowner needs to survey their land. I've never heard a realtor suggest this or do this before they sell a home with land.
I know! It was never suggested to have a land survey done. We were really surprised by the result. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Beautiful place
Thank you, that is very nice of you to say :)
Yes whats the one with the white puffs with the shasta daisy?
Hello! Could you share with me where you get your compost? Love you garden! I live in Lund :)
Hello Heather, I just saw this now, nice tho meet you! I get the Garden Mix from T&R. the plants like it. I find it a bit too sandy but in a small town we take what we can get. I am trying to make my own but it is a slow process. Composting in the spring worked better for me than composting in the fall. I am on Facebook too Heather A. Webb.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!
I never heard of a hosta enclosure. That is unique. Nice garden.
It's a structure to protect plants from wildlife, mine has hostas as deer like to eat them. Thank you for your kind comment.
A beautiful garden🩷💜💛
Very pretty, I have always wanted a mock orange but I don’t think it’s hardy in my zone. I have always also wondered what it smells like? I heard it was a sweet smell? Would be very helpful if you could say in the beginning of your videos where you are and what zone and conditions you deal with. I’m shocked to see peonies still blooming, mine were finished a long time ago. And I didn’t think delphiniums bloomed until summer around July
The mock orange smells like a fresh cut orange, it is a citrus smell. We are in zone 8B, but we got especially cold last winter to -10, thats colder than it should be, we rarely go below -4. Lots of people lost plants. I garden in Powell River on the coast of British Columbia. On my next video I will mention this, thank you for your kind comments and advice.
❤️

What a lovely Flowers Like 1 My friend thank you for good sharing. Have a good relationship 😊
Thank you!
I just seen the sum and substance hosta today. I clicked on your vid because I was trying to find it's name. Ten years! that's a bit of a wait. Very nice garden.
My favourite tree peony. I love how they open with those big luminous full moon buds. I had to leave mine in Brussels which was sad, however it was so well established I didn't want to risk setting it back by relocating it across the Channel.
We do get attached to plants so it's sad when we have to leave them behind.
