the "robots/ais with stutters" thing is tried and true but with max it really is reminiscent of having a stutter. the fucking "nuclear waste" soundbite is true to life in a weird way. also, the "an irishman an irishman an irishman an irishman" thing isn't even true in a weird "parallels between the two" way, it's just straight up an actual thing people do.

I was still pretty young when Max first appeared in popular culture, and I remember finding it disturbing and I didn't realize it was an actor. I wasn't sure what it was, but it looked more computer to me than human. Even as I got older, I never understood how they did it and thought it was mostly digitized puppetry even though the CGI of the time period was far too crude to pull Max off during those times. When I finally learned more details, it impressed me how creative the idea and execution were. I find it incredible too that Max was used to market products, both in real life and in movies like Back to the Future 2. Incredibly ahead of its time. I feel like Max's janky persona would be the heart and soul of some of the nascent AI we are currently developing/working with. It's incredible how far ahead of its time Max was.
