2012 Passat TDI (CKRA Motor) impending turbo failure
Been chasing this sound for a few months and it's steadily gotten more and more prevalent. Started initially as not a sound but a....hesitation or lack of power when the engine was hot. Progressed to this sound, and though random before is now happening at the end of pretty much every drive I take where the motor gets nice and warm.
I hadn't been able to catch it at home with my tools until today, and got a stethoscope on it at the compressor and turbine housings as well as the actuator body, and all readily amplified the sound. Checked around other areas and it wasn't present. I'm still mystified at the odd pressure release sound and how it will readily go away once loaded up and above about 1800-2000 RPM. But with the stethoscope on listening to it at the source it's NOT pretty.
Car has 218,500 miles so it's not an unexpected failure.

Been about 3 months since I last flew due to my own stupidity (I let my FAA Medical lapse, completely forgot). Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. I did the entire motor swap, along with a new BMR K-Member, UMI Torque Arm, and put a Moser 12 bolt into the car also. Also did all engine assembly save for the bare short block. The camera doesn't do it justice, it's pretty rowdy. Should be a real fun car once broken in.

      Thanks!!! It wasn't so much a large cooler decision as it was a decision that was going to be conducive to cooling and overall airflow through the case. By using the tower cooler I'm helping supplement airflow by pulling across the drives and feeding the rear exhaust fan. If I'd have gone low profile I'd have lost that and caused a stagnant pocket in the center of the case.

    Perhaps a stupid question, but why did you move the PSU to the front like you showed in the video? Where did you get the custom cables from and which length did you get? What GPU did you get? Do you have specification list somewhere? I was thinking of just follow your path and copy this build. This was awesome! Thanks! :D

    • @TT99C5
      @TT99C5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I moved the PSU to accommodate the build really. I knew using an SFX PSU would open up some space but I wanted to cut down clutter also. I figured out by rotating and mounting to the front of the chassis I could point the connectors directly at the motherboard thus shortening the amount of cables running around. All PSU cables were made by yours truly. No GPU is used in the build as my RAID controller card is occupying the sole PCIE slot. Full parts list: pcpartpicker.com/list/j8QNgB The HDD stand and brackets should be linked in my original comment on the vid.

This is even pushing it's cost limit at this point given I purchased in 2021 for $2400 and it's at $3600 now. Having had my hands on various Snap On's including some Epiq's and plenty of other truck boxes, there's really no reason to recommend a truck box unless it's some unique thing that you absolutely must have. This box feels every bit the same as an Epiq or a Matco 6S.

    • @TT99C5
      @TT99C5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're missing the point of builds like this and what people use the Node 304 for. Nobody is shoving top end high TDP processors in these and trying to eek out all the performance they can. They're building in this case for HTPC, NAS, small server setups. This case was designed to be a quiet efficient M-ITX case and it does exactly that, with or without the mods I've done. You want a case to hold 2" fans and support top end processors, this isn't it, and this doesn't need to support that. I think the reviewers have far more understanding and appreciation for this than you do, which makes me wonder why you even bothered to comment given the negative nature of it.

But there's plenty of builds out there with tighter tolerances and far less optimal power cables (molex to SATA anyone?) that aren't burning down. Just my $.02 but my build is no more of a fire hazard than any other custom build, and probably less so given the lack of over length cables being stuffed and tucked to be hidden for presentation. At least with mine what you see is it, there's not half a meter of cables hiding just out of sight being pinched and who knows what.
