My favorite historic artifact - discovered at one of the earliest and most important historic sites. Basically the American history powerball for Scavengeologists. You really feel the history when you hold it.

The north facing exterior wall of Byrnside’s Fort is hidden under an early 18th century siding. Here’s a look at it for the first time in 200 or so years..... These are hand hewn white oak logs, with much of the original chinking in place, which was constructed with stone, instead of the usual wedges of wood, so as to make the structure more bullet resistant. Here I show the best way I’ve found so far of cleaning 18th century log cabin interiors, which have accumulated 250 years of dust and mouse poop, without resorting to pressure washing or more harsh methods. Basically just scrubbing with a steel brush. And also a new toy that speeds up the process.

Early Pioneer Log Cabin in Monroe County, WV which needs to be saved. It’s on the site of “Thompson’s Fort,” a small fort, or fortified residence, in Pickaway, Monroe County, West Virginia. It needs to be moved off its original site. Me and my brother go and check out the logistics of it. It’s bigger than I remembered.... And it has a super unusual original front roof overhang with a double gab...

Another day of restoration on our 18th century log cabin frontier fort, Byrnside’s Fort. Cleansing the original logs, removing old whitewash paint, a cool find in between the logs, and more.
