Raising a family and learning as we go to grow our own food on our little 1 acre homestead in rural Arkansas!
We have chickens, rabbits, and many garden spaces.
We love the homesteading community and are always ready to listen and learn. 💕🌻
He has rolled away our reproach of sin and given us this land to cultivate and nurture, for that we are thankful.

Canning apple butter
We were given 25 lbs of apples recently and I had to process them quickly because I was working a lot last week.
I made a big batch of apple butter and canned some apples in simple syrup.
.
We are a family 6 homesteading on just 1 acre here in West Central Arkansas.
We’ve had laying chickens and gardens since 2016, added meat rabbits in 2017 and it’s just been growing since then.
I hope you’ll join us on our journey and maybe we can learn from each other.

Whenever someone reacts bad or questions good actions I ask 'Oh yeah, so what exactly is it you do for others out of kindness?' Shuts 'em up in a sec. Thank you for taking care of your delivery peeps and offering them such nice goodies.❤
@@LunaLaffgutt thank you. ❤️ it’s very true… miserable people like to try to make others miserable. I’ve learned to not let it affect me personally but I do give it back as good as they give sometimes 😅

You would've have done this if you didn't film it for potential internet clout
@@Just_be_yourself109 🤣🤣🤣 cuz you know me so damn well?!
What all in in the sauce on this? Looks really good and I would love to try it. Looked like there was meat in the sauce so I was wondering.
@@TennesseeForever it’s home grown tomatoes with herbs, onions and garlic from the garden, salt and pepper. No meat. If I put meat in the sauce it would need pressure canning or much longer processing time and the noodles wouldn’t stand up well with that.
@@GilgalFarmstead That is why I was asking. It sure looks really good. I might just have to try this
Man, I do miss those goaty girls, just not the cost to feed them.
You should start a series about good bugs
@@Gadget67SD thanks for the idea! ❤️
The first driver is gonna take all three of them "special" gifts. Also is better just to give them all twenty bucks if that's how you feel
Not everyone is dishonest like you.
@@ScrubzHD hahaha you must be a blast at parties and family functions. 🤪
@@ScrubzHD not that is should matter to you… that’s been out for over a week now and all the special gifts are still there… some waters and a few snacks taken but it hasn’t had to be restocked yet. Our drivers are very nice and almost too shy to take anything. We’ve had to tell them to please help themselves. Don’t be such a grouchy scenic
Ignore the haters, what you're doing is kind. Not a lot of people do that kind of stuff. Thank you for helping people!@@GilgalFarmstead
Do you raise them to eat? Do they taste like chicken
@@THEDONGALATOR yes we raise meat rabbits. We replace chicken in most recipes with rabbit.

How cruel, poor pet turkey 😢
Animals are meant to be eaten
@@adamhenderson7267 do you ever eat meat? She wasn’t a pet, she was raised for this purpose and she lived a FAR better life than any turkey on the grocery store shelves could have dreamed. One bad day and she was loved until then.
@GilgalFarmstead understandable, I get your point. When you put it that way I can appreciate the process and see the humanity in it.
@@adamhenderson7267 thank you for understanding. We raise a lot of our own meat here because we know how they live and how they are treated in the end. We love our animals until it is their time.

Looks really good. A couple shots of that and you'll have to change your channel to Giggles Farmstead 🤪
@@TheBackwoodsHermit hahaha true story! 😅🤪
How long a shelf life? Does it get Cakey? Im making some first time this year my plants are still producing in SC! ❤
@@Eclecticgardengirl no mine got completely dry and I haven’t had any issues with it being cakey. My extra I vacuum sealed in a jar to keep all the moisture out. Also, if you want you can toss a silica pack into the jar and that helps a ton with items I do have issues with.
Shelf life once dried is years
Bravo! At 56 I’m trying to is year for sourdough and after watching your post here and also the bread code talks about it. Otherwise I came to my own conclusion this is the truest statement ever!!! Thank you!!
@@KathleenBiegenwald awesome!! Best way is to just jump right in and do the basics, tune out all the nonsense and find what works best for you ❤️
Think I am sticking to regular store bought yeast. I have been doing this since before the election..his name is Donald 😃
@@joycem.7857 I’ve had Berniece my original starter since 2017 lol she makes gorgeous bread but not everyone here is a fan. we definitely use store yeast here too. My youngest doesn’t like sourdough so I have a recipe she loves that she says is the same consistency as store bought sandwich bread so it’s her fave.
no actual bacon, just grease....😒
🤣😅 the kids ate the bacon for breakfast 🤷🏼♀️ you’re welcome to add the bacon pieces to it if you have ‘em and wanna.
What the heck is masa?? I'm really old and I've never heard of it! Lol google time 4 me! I might try these but Dollar tree has one brand that are close to fritos that is cheap enough for me--the other brand is horrible from dollar tree... also Market Basket grocery stores has their own brand that isn't bad. Homemade is always better!!! Lol thank you and God bless you and your cute family

@@wadedavis4437 certainly is the fun part! 🥰
@@GilgalFarmstead I ordered mine yesterday. Your video was very convincing.

Hi
I have never seen bread cut like this... it is actually so cool.
@@Colakainr when I first started making our own bread 8 years ago I had a conversation with my dad about the slicing guides being so bulky and such. He whipped this up and surprised me the next day. Even though my slicing skills have improved over the years I still pull it out and use it sometimes. It gets the most slices out of a loaf and they are uniform thicknesses. I still love it. It reminds me that he thought of me and considered my needs. It will always have a place in my kitchen ❤️
@@GilgalFarmstead that is so sweet! It is honestly super effective. What a beautiful gift from your dad ♡
You need to use vinegar to wipe your jars with to insure that it is sanitized
Suggestion. Instead of all the flattening out and parchment paper try using a jerky gun. It's like a caulk gun but made for making meat jerkies and snack sausages. Throw your dough in one of those and put the thinnest and widest tip on it and that might make it easy-peasy.
@@Ragenowski ohhhh that is a fabulous idea! I used to have one of those, I’ll have to see if I can find one at a thrift shop to try it out
What do you do with the discarded one?can we use it ?
@@nergesziya8673 oh yes, I never toss my discard. I save it in a jar in the fridge. They say not to use these first discards but I do. I just make sure to keep it in the refrigerator and use it within a few days. I don’t waste anything. After the starter is good and active I don’t worry about how long the discard is in the fridge. I just use it whenever it gets full or I need to bake a recipe that calls for it. Our favorite discard recipes are pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, crackers and pancakes.
Thank you ❤❤
