You are going to end up with a ton of cards you don't want to play with in EVERY Collectible Card Game! It's called chaff! Unless you buy a complete set or each single card, you will end up with garbage cards you don't need! You can't get around it! I'm glad you found a game you like, but if it's a CCG, or TCG, then random cards in a booster is random cards!
@@geekworthy7938 You make a very good point! Any CCG/TCG is going to create a lot of bulk if you’re opening a lot of packs. I just don’t need any more basic lands/energy. I wish I could buy packs without those.
There are so many surprises in store for the pack ripping experience, too. It’s going to be very exciting!
@@QuarantinedCapricorn yes indeed! It can’t get here soon enough!
Are you sponsored by wonders of the first yet?
@@ronaldwilliams8776 😂 no I’m not. I know it might seem that way, but I’m honestly just hooked on this game. It’s so much fun and it remedies so many of my gripes with modern CCG’s.
@BeAHeroGaming I hope you do get sponsored watch Capricorn he's also doing videos and got sponsored also you should go to the first shattering
Final Fantasy TCG solves every single problem of the modern TCG/CCG. Every card is usable in a booster. Every card since release (barring 8. Or so banned cards) are usable in any tournament any format including standard. No filler cards in boosters. Insanely high card quality. Well priced. Etc. etc. Take a look. I only started playing like 2 months ago… it’s the best TCG ever made in every way (including solving gameplay issues in other games) nobody knows exists.
@@Retroactiveadjustment I’ve heard of it before but I’ve never tried it. Now I’m intrigued. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!
I want a set of these too! Its going to be so much fun to trade and build this set.
@@joedouglass9966 For real! The First Form Myths are the ones to go after. They will pack a punch in a deck.
It's the Lego Approach. I'm pretty excited about the Final Fantasy Expansion. I think what saddens me the most about the game is the fact that it's pretty hard to adjust schedules, interests, and a group of people who like to play the game. I'm not competitive, I just want a casual afternoon match. I'd love everything could retain its magic for everyone
@@mauriciomartell2433 true. It’s hard to find casual players. Most players at LGS’s are hard core.
It makes me so happy seeing you use the stones to mark what round it is and not starting with them all in play to start the game!
@@joedouglass9966 Yes! I watched Brian Tinsman (lead game designer) play that way and it’s a much better way to play.

@@scornlok9321 It’s called Wonders of the First. A new collectible card game that comes out in March. It’s really fun and completely different from the average CCG. I’m going to post a how to play video soon, so stay tuned.
Could you give a demonstration video like you both playing together with an umpire. I kinda frustrated to analyze the rules such as: who will play first, how they ended their turn, which card should be on the sage’s board, etc. with a live gameplay I think it’s gonna be easier to get that. Anyway thanks for the great works
@@soulbender66 yes we can put that together. Keep a lookout for it!
My favorite competitive card game is Yugioh brcause you have access to almost every card in your deck. My favorite card game to play casually is Magic because it has the best flavor and supports multi-player. The point value system instead of bans is an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing
@@ZackeroniAndCheese yugioh is one that I’ve never tried. But I keep hearing about it so much that I might have to check it out.
@BeAHeroGaming if you ever do, I recommend checking out Edison Format. It is the 2nd most popular way to play. Advanced Format has had the same complexity creep issues as MTG. I am not as much of a fan of Advanced Format.
Luckily all my old cards still play the same! I started playing in 2007 and the significant powercreep from when I started came to my attention in 2016. Since then, I haven't purchased a card printed after 2016. I've been spending my money allocated for Magic on older cards to complete sets that were before I had started. I can have fun and vote with my wallet simultaneously
@@ZackeroniAndCheese way to go! The problem is that there aren’t many like you left. All the new players want Universes Beyond, so WOTC is selling it.
I think it's understood from a gameplay perspective that, if you're going to have a resource system like this, and if you're going to print that resource system onto cards that go into your deck, that you're introducing a lot of bricks that need to be managed either with escape clauses or high card velocity. I suspect for anyone other than new players, this will quickly feel like a neccesary piece of resource management and not a cool opportunity for expression. But that's not what this video is about, it's about pack opening. I come from yugioh, so maybe there's a cultural difference, but I'm not buying packs just because you put cool cards in there. That's something you do when you're young and stupid and don't know about the singles market. We have very little filler in our packs and it still doesn't change a thing, I don't want to buy loot boxes and I don't recommend it to anyone. MTG sells packs by offering draft and limited formats; Pokémon sells packs by offering online packs - real, substantial secondary games you get to play for paying the sealed product premium.
@@jkid1134 interesting take on the tropic. I don’t think these lands are just opportunities for expression. It’s definitely an additional resource that needs to be managed, but it eliminates the need for “basic” cards that are essentially worthless once you have dozens of them. Whether you buy packs or singles depends on your goals as a player/collector. If you’re a serious player trying to fine-tune a deck then definitely go with singles. But if you’re a new player building a collection or you like opening packs for the mystery of what they contain then go for it (responsibly 😉).
@BeAHeroGaming on the lands: yeah, that's what I mean by an escape clause, something they can do when mana production is pointless. lands are inherently so bricky - unless a hand of all lands or a hand of no lands can play, they WILL determine many games - that I think the text will feel less cool and more neccesary. but obviously this is speculation from quite a distance. side note: early magic thought they were dealing with this with land destruction, but it causes more problems than it solves so I didn't mention it. side note 2: the "I wish a hand full of lands or non-lands could play" thinking is I think how you get to "any card can be played as a mana source" games like wizards likes to make now on the packs: they're worse for collecting unless your goal is to collect literally every card in the set (and even then there's a point where you should stop and just buy the remaining singles), and this is the goal of almost no one. casuals have preferred playstyles and colors, competitive players understand some of the cards to be bad. have you done a side by side, like, how many playable blue cards I could buy from the newest mtg set for the cost of a box? it's not close. the "if you like opening packs" thing is true enough, but to me that's just like how you should only buy lottery tickets if you like scratching - I recommend it to no one.
ever heard of flesh and blood? every card produces resources of varying amounts, with cards that produce more being less effective. a hand with all 1-resource cards is still playable for most decks but has a less efficient resource curve, and a hand with all 3-resource cards is definitely playable but is less effective. there are very few total brick hands. you also generally cycle your entire hand every turn so one bad hand won't lose you the game.
@ yes I’ve tried that game a few times. The thing I don’t like about it is that you have to pitch cards so you’re not able to play them. Kinda like Star Wars Unlimited - I don’t want to throw cards away for resources. I can never decide which ones to pitch!
You know what these cards need to set itself apart from magic, busty women card art boom! That’s a million dollar idea I’ve just given you
@@ChrisZamundo-wp5bl not even necessary. The game already has too many great things that already set it apart from Magic.
To me those lands sounds exactly like non basic lands from mtg. They can have varying level of rarity and desirability but some of them are some of the most sought after cards (fetchlands for example). Comparing them to the basic land that is guaranteed to be present in every booster doesn't really make sense. You make it sound like they invented the concept of rarity.
What are your top 3 non-basic lands?
@@Urneosnrbwosrniensbrieensfurjd yes, you are correct that there are some exotic lands in mtg, but the point here is two-fold. One, MOST of the lands in a mtg deck are basic lands, but NONE of the lands in WotF are basic. And Two, when you open a pack of mtg you will usually get a basic land - who cares - in WotF when you open a pack, there are no basic (land) cards of any kind. Every card is interesting and potentially valuable in your deck. Even the “common” lands have tremendous value in a deck.
@@BeAHeroGaming To be frank here, unless we're talking about monocoloured decks in MTG, it goes the other way around: most lands AREN'T basic. Also, a lot of players tend to stockpile basic land cards in order to build new decks in the future, or to play draft/sealed games, even more so if they're full art ones (or, hell, foil full art basic lands, which people love to collect). If I'm not buying preconstructed decks, that's my only actual source of lands for those needs. Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of the lands in this game, and they sound extremely interesting. But any MTG player with a bit of experience will see your comparison and think it's a bit disingenuous or misleading.
@@HarverTheSlayer Yes, I’m one that likes a shiny foil land for sure. And I guess if you’re playing a multi-color mtg deck you might have a lot of non-basic lands. I just wanted to showcase the fact that none of these lands are basic. They are just as exciting to pull from a pack (or build into a deck) as creatures, items, or spells. I’m going to post a how-to-play video soon. You should check it out so you can see them in action!
One of my favorite card names in the set 😅
Okay... but at least two of those lands also exist pretty wholly preserved in mtg. Like this looks like a cool game, but gotta be honest, those 1st and 3rd just look like Homeward path and Bucolic Ranch/Scrying Sheets/The Biblioplex. Again, seems cool, but I feel like this feature can't put it ahead of other games when some other games already have them.
@@melonlord2229 sure, there’s definitely some good art in other games. My main point is that the lands serve multiple purposes which make them a lot more exciting to collect, pull from a pack, and build into a deck.
looks like AI why would anyone want to collect that?
@@brennanlable because: 1. The gameplay is unique and really fun, plus it’s not just another reskinned mtg 2. It’s created not just for collectors and not just for players, but for both 3. The team behind the game includes experts in game design, experts in collectability, experts in lore and world building among others 4. The card art is epic and cohesive 5. There will never be reprints so cards will retain value 6. The DBS allows for equal deck strength in a competitive environment 7. I could keep going, but you can clearly see there are more reasons to collect this game than any other. Don’t be so short-sighted and write something off just because you’re bothered by 1 thing.
@@BeAHeroGamingok but counter point if the game doesn’t catch on the cards are worthless and for a second point if the art is ai it’s not gonna have value among collectors of things as ai art is essentially free because it doesn’t come from an actual artist meaning just about anybody could make the art for this game. Also not a reskin of magic the gathering you’re essentially using the exact same mechanics tell me what does a shield counter do?
@ yes the gaming community will decide whether or not the game becomes collectible. Nobody can see the future, but because this game is different on multiple levels than all other CCG’s it is positioned to do well. You should give it a try. I’m going to post a play through soon. Check it out.
@@BeAHeroGamingto
So they're utility lands, with more convoluted theming and worse art?
@@cariad561 The theme is pretty straightforward - each land supports cards of that orbital (color). And the art is pretty epic. But I realize everyone doesn’t share the same opinion. If you don’t like it that’s up to you.

Wait… this spurious, circular argument isn’t even seriously about Magic? This is just your Shark Tank spiel for some ostensible card game that’s not even in production yet? That weighted allowance system of yours isn’t even as daring and innovative as you seem to imagine. Android: Netrunner had their “NAPD Most Wanted List”, for one. Guess what happened? Wizards could still introduce a restriction system just like this tomorrow, if they were stupid enough to try. It’s a logistical quagmire, with too many granular, entangled decisions to continually fiddle with. This is a perfect Dunning-Kruger solution. The only feature that’s going to guarantee your promise to never ban cards is insufficient interest. Way to make a first impression. If this were your elevator pitch, I would throw you down the empty shaft for being so disingenuous. Never try to bury your agenda like this again.
@@coprographia 😂 you’re cracking me up my friend. Looks like you finally watched the whole thing! Nope not a pitch, just an awesome game that has fixed a lot of things wrong with popular CCGS. Here is a rule i want clarification it says in the 2.0 rulebook in page 7 of it in (IX) create your 25 card combat and diplomacy pool, take the 15 advanced combat and diplomacy cards but in the cards nowhere it clarifies which are the basic combat and who the advanced any clue how to distinct it?
@@FordMrson The basic cards for both combat and diplomacy are numbered 1-25, and the advanced cards are numbered 1-15 (advanced card also have the character name at the top). You take the first 15 basic cards to form your starting card pool, then you shuffle the remaining 10 basic cards with the 15 advanced cards (make sure the colored banners at the top match) to form a pool of cards that you will draw from when using xp to upgrade your deck. Do this for both combat cards and diplomacy cards.
@@BeAHeroGaming Here is my issue it has 4 different colors isn't that right? it has 25 cards each from 1 to 25 i see nowhere from 1 to 15 unless you mean from the 1-10 are the basics and from 10 to 25 are the advanced cards of the same color.
@ you’re right, it took me a minute to wrap my head around it. The different colors allow each character to have their own set of cards. When you complete an encounter with more than 1 player the cards can get mixed up as you play them together. The colors help you know who’s cards are who’s after you complete the encounter.
@@BeAHeroGaming yeah but there are 25 cards of each color right? so from those 25 who are the basics and who the advanced cards?
@ the cards numbered 1-25 are the basic ones. There should be another set of cards, with the character name at the top, numbered 1-15. Those are the advanced cards.

You should try out Old-school 93/94 format if you haven't already. That format primarily plays magic the way it has since 93/94. Timmy the Sorcerer on TH-cam is a great source of knowledge if you are interested in seeing old school games played out. Many people that play old-school 93/94 play over long distances with camera set up since there really isn't that many players locally. There are also tournaments held in the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, and Italy in pubs. It is a friendly casual format. There is also Premodern format that only uses cards from 4th edition to Scourge. The website is called premodernmagic, the community of old timers like us can still enjoy classic magic. I started playing magic during the Ice Age as a child. The cards look so cool. Hand painted works of art, not like the modern digital crap. Sooner or later WotC will forego human digital art in favor of the cheaper AI junk. I do miss the older blocks, where throughout a whole year, you got to be immersed into a plane of magic through story telling, and you got to be part of that plane and get a good feel of the cards for the year. It felt special, nowadays each set/expansion feels empty and devoid of all of that. Now they only travel to planes that will make them the most money, money drives WotC. Sure it did in the past but at least the people in charge actually cared and played alongside us players. Magic the Gathering that we both experienced is dead. I walk into a card shop and all I see is commander this and commander that, people in 4 player pods playing a game that isn't magic. Hell just last month I had to walk away from a table because they lack the fundamentals of the game, but they argue that its casual bruh and if you don't like go away. Yeah... house rules. I understand that in the past there were house rules in the past such as skip phases, or forget to untap, or playing a card before tapping any mana sources, but those were forgivable actions that later became part of the magic rules. Now we got younger generations making up there own way to play the game, and each and every table has there own politics and house rules. I hate it, and that's why I stick to playing with people that play the rules from the comprehensive rules. I apologize for this essay. Originally I only planned to write about Old-school 93/94 and Premodern, however I feel that my grief about the game I love has became a division, an isolation, but your video helped me because you also feel some of the grief I experience. Good for you on playing other games. I know if have stopped buying newer magic products 3 years ago, simply got tired of it all. Take care, and have a good time. Thank you for the video.
Dude I'm loving that old school mono green deck!. If you want to still play magic in its purest form you should check out the old school 93/94 format is amazing. I've been playing it for a few years now and I love it, especially for the nostalgia. Loved the video and I definitely agree with you.

@@AaronOneal-e7h agreed. Most new players think Commander is how you play. It’s the most popular format, but that’s not how the game started.
Just curious, how does this video fall into your “be a hero” slogan or branding? Was it the little speech at the end about how games/people don’t define you?
@@kentwood6797 yes. I usually put that part at the beginning, but for some reason I put it at the end of this video. All videos are unscripted, so they can get kinda random 🤪
The way Pokémon is keeping it self relevant is by 1) being a collectible first and card game second and 2) powercreep in a way Magic players luckily haven't experienced. Basically all "creatures" have their base power/toughness doubled (of not more) now compared to their "alpha" version. But I hear you, I also remember Magic being simpler back then when I got into the game. But I also think that was because I was more into those kind of cards. When I'm looking back now to the older sets (Antiquities, Fallen Empires and Ice Age for example) there's sooo much text -and often not very intuitive ones either. ;) That said, Universes Beyond is a mess for sure. :)
Yep 100%. Also I think Pokemon is a poor comparison. Pokemon franchise is beyond the card game and that's what keeps it relevant and stable. Pokemon was/is a video game franchise first and foremost and it also has anime series, movies, toys, clothing lines, heck there's even a Pokemon theme jumbo jet... all of these other things means they don't even have to rely on the card game to sell or keep relevant the card game.
@@bjornlohmander7431 you’re right, the old stuff had some long-text offenders!
I miss old magic. It's just not the same, there isn't enough attention to the stories and the lore. The IP has become diluted, the cards just keep coming and there isn't consideration for peoples collection since a new horizons set comes out every 2 years that just completely invalidates decks. Not to mention the product fatigue and predatory pricing. I've been playing Flesh and Blood for the last year and it's been great. I've finally come to the point where I'm willing to sell most of my mtg collection Fab scratches that TCG itch, there is less variance in the games, there is enough time in between sets to let metas settle, and the creators give a damn about their playerbase.
@@Major_Nuance I’m glad you found something you like! I still play MTG, but like you I started looking elsewhere to scratch my CCG itch.
