In 1938, V.S. Bendrey received a research scholarship that allowed him to travel to England and Europe to study historical papers and artifacts. Despite the outbreak of World War II, Bendrey obtained special permission to access these valuable materials. Although he had to return to India in 1940 due to the war, Bendrey managed to copy and bring back 25 volumes of research material. These volumes contained important historical documents that were at risk of destruction. Bendrey's preservation of these materials was crucial for studying Maharashtra's history, and he utilized them to write over 50 books, expanding our understanding of the region's past. His dedication greatly contributed to documenting the history and cultural heritage of Maharashtra.
He donated all the 25 volumes to Pune Itihaas Samshodhak Mandal.

इतिहास संशोधक .वा.सी. बेंद्रे ह्यांचे अगाध कार्य, चिकाटी व इतिहासा विषयीचा
त्यांचा अभ्यास पाहून , इ.स. १९३८ मध्ये मुंबईचे माजी गव्हर्नर लॉर्ड ब्रेबॉन यांच्या
इच्छेवरून श्री. खेर यांनी खास शिष्यवृत्ती देऊन श्री.वा.सी.बेंद्रे यांना सरकारी,
हिस्टॉरिकल रिसर्च स्कॉलर म्हणून इतिहास संशोधनासाठी युरोप व इंग्लंडला
पाठवले. दोन वर्षात मराठ्यांच्या विशेषतः संभाजी महाराजांच्या इतिहास विषयक
साधनांचे संशोधन व त्याकरिता इंडिया हाउस व ब्रिटीश म्युझियम मधील ऐतिहासिक
साधनांचे सुमारे २५ खंड होतील एवढी सामुग्री परत आणली. इंग्लंड मधील
वास्तव्यामुळे श्री.बेंद्रे यांचे संशोधन-संकलन क्षेत्र मोठ्या प्रमाणात विस्तारले.
