I’ve been following your exploits for a long time (thru the TH-cam) - have to say your posts are at the TOP of my list - all time!!!! Be well my friend.

I've loved following your journey on the Hayduke. I love your attitude and love for the adventure. I loved the snow scene up in the Henry's! Finding the peaks are some of my favorite moments in hiking in the Utah mountains, and obviously it was for you too. I loved your upbeat and positive attitude and excitement in the Grand Canyon! It's motivated me even more to get out and do it. I live in Utah and grew up in the desert down by Zion and I just plan to section hike it. I wish I could just thru hike it like so many people have. Fat Man's Misery is actually a one way technical slot canyon that requires rappelling gear. I did it about 20 years ago. You wouldn't be able to climb up and out of FMM without climbing gear or an existing fixed rope with ascenders. The canyoneering route starts where the Hayduke comes out just below Checkerboard Mesa and traverses across that hot hell of a sandy desert, into the mouth and down FMM, eventually emptying into Parunuweap Canyon (East Fork of Virgin River). Then you have to climb out of the canyon and make that same hell of a hike back the same way you came. I know the Hayduke guidebook says that "An incredibly steep trail known as 'Fat Man's Misery' will take you to the 'top', scrambling through steep ravines and over repeated ridges and ledges." According to the GPX route I got off of CalTopo, it looks like the exit that most people are actually taking (in the videos I've watched) is just west of the actual FMM canyon. In one video, though, one guy got a little lost and went up the actual FMM and had to camp in it cause it got dark. If he would have kept going up the canyon he was in, it would have presented other challenges and he would realize that he wouldn't be able to go up that way. The canyon usually has water in it. Unfortunately, most people also miss the metal plaque on the wall that is in honor of John Wesley Powell, who explored the East Fork.
