    I had a cortisone shot for my hip, only lasted for a month, just had hip replacement, last much longer. Injection only delays the inevitable in my experience .

    Absolute truth. These shots work VERY differemtly for different people. I get a shot and it lasts 6 months, i do manual labor for a living. My friend who works an office job gets 2 weeks relief. Go figure. This shot changed my life.

    Despite short-term pain relief, cortisone promotes FURTHER deterioration of of the joint and HASTENS the need for the joint replacement. Confirmed by reputable research.

    I just had an injection inmy bursa, pi had had pain so bad leading up to the shot that i was unable to walk up an incline or stairs.... .. im so annoyed at the orthopedist that said he doesnt like to give them as people get complacent and dont strengthen their muscles with exercise... one shot and two days later my pants size is down by at least one ,nit was that swollen and now can take 2 stairs at a time.... pain may be back in 3 month s but at least i know it was my bursa.. and that is such a relief in and of itself. I ll admit it was painful but only for a minute then when the analgesia wore off some hours later it was very painful to bear weight for about a day.. then almost as good as new!!!! 😊 i had been limping for months

    My Dr. said once every 3 months is acceptable. I've had one knee replacement 5 yrs ago & required several injections prior to that. After the injection, I'm good to go for around 4 months, before the pain becomes unbearable. Cartilage is wearing out on other knee & replacement will be within the next year or so. I'm doing fine with my FAKE knee!!!

    Cortisone (steroids) can do more harm than good. It can worsen or even cause arthritis, it can cause cause hypertension, diabetics. It can affect organs like kidney and adrenals. It can lead to atrophy, it can cause depression. It can cause immune suppression and make individuals more prone to diseases. Please beware

    I wish that this were a more detailed description. For example, when do people take which drugs? The strongest drug for just before physical therapy with a therapist and less strong drugs for when people do physical therapy at home on their own? What about for overnight, when you're just trying to be able to sleep reasonably comfortably?

      @@brutallyhonestguy5985 I had my total knee replacement four days ago and although it is extremely painful it is going good here. I had to wait over a full year before I could get my knee replacement because insurance wouldn’t cover it. So I pretty much had to let it deteriorate until it was bone on bone before I could get it. I know I have a lot of residual pain from all of that amongst the actual replacement. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I can do it! I know I am not the original person that left the comment but I watch the video and decided to leave a comment on how mine was doing.😊

    Cortisone hasn’t done much of anything for my knees now. The orthopedic physician told me before I got the injections told me I need my knees replaced. I don’t want it done, but my limping, bowlegs, and pain will be over if I do it. Maybe. But no skiing for months. And people have died from blood clots and pulmonary embolisms.

    I have lower back pain especially when standing oh, I received two shots in my back about a month ago. I have had less pain in my back for the last week or so. I suppose the cortisone shot is working. Does that mean my pain is muscular or nerves?

  • @hoosierbaddy3052
    @hoosierbaddy3052 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s an extremely conservative approach to solving hip pain. Steroids and corticosteroids are bandaids. One time is ok. Multiple steroid shots for long term relief isn’t prudent. The pain is relieved and when you go exercise, you exacerbate it. The primary problem hasn’t been dealt with. Steroids mask the symptoms of joint degeneration. I understand taking a cautious approach to hip pain. And ultimate courses of treatment to relieve pain. Even using anti inflammatories or any other pain masking drugs is also not prudent. Especially for someone that is and wants to be physically active. Not to mention the stomach damaging effects of anti inflammatories! Get in there and replace it! How much pain does a person need to be in before surgery becomes the answer?! I’m currently in a shit load of pain. I have an appointment with an ortho coming up. I used to work as a physical therapy aide. This pain is beyond some corrective exercises supervised by a PT. AYKM?!

      Since you are in lots of pain, it makes sense to have the surgery. But continued injections can help those who need to put off surgery or who are not in a great deal of distress until they have the time to be recumbent and rehab their joint.
