Helpful Tips on how to perform well during the promotion board
There's some truth to this. I joined the Army because I was one of the biggest nonconformists I knew. That sounds odd I know but, think about it. With nearly 99% of Americans never having served in the military, it defies convention to do so. Then to enlist in the Infantry after college..? Probably not the wisest choice. However, after 19 years 6 months and 28 days, I can tell you that being different is inconsequential as long as you adhere to and enforce standards. Leadership is easy. Provide subordinates with a task, purpose, and motivation to accomplish the mission and meet the Commander's intent while improving the organization. Not really hard when you think about it.
You’re right
Good work Keep it up❤
Do you have a video for shortages and excess when you have to pull for USR on DST. I know FMSWEB and G Army. I would like to see DST so I can pull all three
Wish I saw this when I was still in the marines.. I felt so much I was becoming a liability.
I'm not sure how simply seeing this would change the perspective of being a liability? I can tell you that if you felt that way, there was enough truth to it that you followed your sentiments in the right direction.
This is right on time. I'm so laid back and don't care about the small stuff
Must not be detail oriented or combat arms.
lol omg why is this me!!!!!!!!! I just don’t want to be a 12B nomore. 5 almost 6 years is crazy😭
Question, do you have to transaction match losing unit in DST prior to removing from the property book in GCSS-A? Have been running into issues where PSD is open, equipment has already been turned in but wasn't transaction matched and now the PSD is infeasible.
No you dont
Just real.
post your letter, and then post theirs. cause it very well could be that they worded the letter alot better than what you did. but you took offense so you want to call it "dumbing it down" so you still feel on top. humble yourself sergeant.
Go OCS!!
If you got a Bachelor's degree even a Master's degree or JD go OCS, WOC, Direct Commissioning don't let the Blue Falcons.. the Problem is White man conformity!!! Solution is work on self improvement and fake them out and score a touch down back to back. it's a game I order you to Win, Win by any means necessary for your good Hey Hey Captain Jack
The problem is now days people make more money in IT,Media, medical, politics and corporate higher ranks while the soldiers go out and ,waste their golden years for their country…it’s just not worth it to fight third world countries for no reason….i love Air Force, navy and army and ,I appreciate young men and women serving in the military…I just see things from different perspectives..in my opinion, when politicians wage wars and, retire with multimillionaire while the soldiers retire broke or average lower middle classes maybe worse homeless…that’s a problem for me …I’m actually questioning a lot of industries..
These wars are illegal wars. The U.S. military goes to foreign countries, topples their governments, put in zionist puppets like we have here in the states, kills millions of innocents and steals their resources. How could anyone be proud to serve in the U.S. military? The U.S. is the terrorist regime of the world.
Having to write counseling packets, awards, and letters was the dumbest shit I ever had to do when I was in the military. Like seriously, 90% of fellow NCO's had shit land nav skills, had shit PT scores, shit marksmanship, pussies on deployments, yet at the end of the day, your career is defined by how well you write the way the Army wants you to LMAO.
what about the marines?
@@ethanppsh I have no idea what jarhead life is like
@@bluewave2024 ah only asked because im going to join in about a year or so
If youre over 25 id say its late to join. There is a reason why 18 year olds are the prime ppl wanted. After that your brain starts maturing and start questioning things especially if youve never been in and watch these wars from the sidelines as its all just politics.
how is this guy an NCO? oh ya they auto promote people these days i forgot...
Adjust or get out!
but you don't have to pass tape. weird.
Device is at full volume, and I cannot hear a single thing that is being said.
I feel you, a lot of these rules are wild as h*** but, that’s that small cost, a little give and take for some of them benefits. Lol, I don’t think you’re wrong for your opinion at all but they are about to k*** you in these comments, take it from another creator, I know, good luck bro 😂😂😂
I'm just a civilian, but I understand what you feel. That being said, maybe it wasn't necessarily your writing skills. What if they edited your letter to make it more appealing to the commander? They could have been trying helping you receive permission for whatever it was you were applying for. That's just one possibility based on the information given.
To give context, what did you want to do where your chain of command found it necessary for you to write a letter to your commander? Honestly, I think you need to focus more on your unit's mission and less about how your unit & commander make you feel. As a SSG, you are a role model for the junior Soldiers in your unit; if you constantly complain, what impact are you having on the morale of your unit? I get it, not all officers are great and you may not always agree with their decisions, however it's up to the NCO's to carry out the commander's intent and create an environment of motivation & discipline so Soldiers take initiative. Creating a culture of negativity will only make your Soldiers less focused on your mission; and good luck getting your Soldiers to care about the unit's mission or follow your lawful orders when you're complaining about trivial sh!t. Junior Soldiers pick up on everything! Good luck.
Excellent response!
I'm too good for the Army
Might not even be eligible
the army's rules were there before you were. if you dont like them, hit that door. your leadership probably fixed your letter so you didnt appear unprofessional in front of your commander. thicken up that skin.
It might also be a mystery to you why we have a recruiting crisis huh?
As a NCO, working in the motor pool and an Officer stopped me for some unless advice or whatever he wanted, I'd stand at attention and scream "Thank you for conditioning my mind and body, Sir! Feel free to do so at any time, Sir!" That keeps them at bay. Either that or hand them a $20 and tell them to go get some doughnuts while the men work. and make shooing motions with your hands.
Don’t develop your leaders, great advice. Don’t know your leadership, but him coming down to the motor pool to help out or ask for advice isn’t a bad thing. Keep making the military a better place! 🫡
@@rusty9428 Officers have a function and it is not vehicle maintenance. If an Officer's tank gets knocked out in battle, he moves to another tank. His job responsibilities are different then mine. Stay in your lane.
What? As an E-6 you don't know how to do your job? WTF? You should be THE Subject Matter Expert in your field. Generals should be directed to you when they stop by to learn from THE Expert. Also, as an E-6, you are really hanging out your dirty laundry to the whole world and I'm pretty sure someone will take notice. You posted it online. It is there forever and will haunt you in the future. Good luck. If I was an instructor at an Advanced NCO school and I saw this video of you, I'd automatically assume you were a weak NCO and form a negative opinion of you until proven otherwise.
You don't 'dumb down', you adjust to your target audience. The way I'd give a block of instruction to a bunch of Privates is a whole lot different, giving that same block of instructions to a bunch of Field Grade Officers. If you type out a letter and sign it and someone alters it. I'd file a compliant or take them out back for some wall-to-wall counseling. Call people on their BS to keep them from thinking they are Gawd Almighty. It's the NCO's job to keep those pesky Officers in check.
I dumb myself down to get 20yrs knocked out. Smartest move ever. Don't think I would have made it otherwise. Seen too many chiefs and wanna be's that went along with the politics ready to stick you..then they crash and burn. I kept my sanity and now 18yrs out I'm the smartest guy on my lake fishing. Hang in there my man..sounds like wisdom to me.
Dumb down or adjust to Army writing style?
Adjusting to army writing is one thing, but you shouldn’t try to re-word someone’s letter.
@@souljatalkthepodcast8373 maybe they're trying to adjust it to Army writing style, as well as to regulation, but they're not as educated so as to retain your nuance and vocabulary, so they change it into a poorly written letter that fits within what's required by the army.
I believe this is completely misleading, what do you understand about military writing? Also it is important to understand who the letter/memo is intended for. You do understand military writing is its own thing, correct? It’s a whole regulation on it.
I had a really good LT, prior service support guy for group. I typed up a memo that BN S1 gave me the words to use to get a signed. He said that won’t work. I said how? They literally gave me the wording to use in the memo. Two days later, I finally got the memo signed. It went from three sentences to a page long. Everyone at BN laughed and obviously when submitted the LTC never even read it. Now I understand things in group may have been a little different, but still! Good times and I wouldn’t change it.. well maybe some of it lol

nah that's called weak or NO leadership and that's a big problem not just for you but your entire unit.

Yes I would look into it if I were you
Maybe take the initiative to ask how they want the job done?
the example given is indicative of why the military currently has very high attrition and very low recruitment… yeah maybe “roger” or “i sir” will appease the toxic person with “rank” occasionally… but those who know, know… its those people that have put America’s military in the dangerous rut its in; but rather than fixing toxic leadership and teaching effective communication on all levels, the culture is to pacify or avoid to “save your career”. i guarantee if those with actual authority figured out how to wisely spend tax dollars in bootcamp, MOS schools and leadership training on the front end, much less would go out thru the VA on the back end… sad to see 20 plus years later military culture hasn’t changed…
You’re right but when you really care, sometimes you have to endure the toxic leadership by saying “Roger” in order to get in position to fight for change.
@@souljatalkthepodcast8373 SEMPER FI my brother; algorithm sent me your video top of list when i open YT today, so that mean you grinding… so definitely gonna subscribe… and I for sure recognize your position as so many of the of them old heads when i was in would often pitch that to me and others; especially if you make staff grade… but me and so many good NCO’s left the Corps back in the day because grown people didn’t know how to talk to other grown people… and often times that ish would border on abuse and be pure disrespect and even the “R” word, lol… fortunately i became really good at my job; so when i’d occasionally forget that “rank” and respond to ish often put in front of me, there was always an antenna farm or field training to send me to… its enough dealing with the PTSD curtesy of OEF/OIF, and now Im back state side and “fully grown”… your day 2 juiced up butter bar LT or jar head GUNNEY straight off the drill field wanna be motto and/or be slippery at the mouth… man nawl… that eas is when you say??? lol.. i out… so many, self included, tell this same story… change definitely need to happen
Keep your mouth shut and do what you are told. You will never have a problem in the Services-----------Ex Military
Good advice ssg that advice applies to all ranks when dealing with the MP’s. I’ve personally gave a ride to a soldier that just failed the sobriety test coming through the gate, back to his barracks, told him he could pick up his keys from the MP Desk Ssg in no less than 8 hours and saved that young soldiers career. I also pulled over our commanding general on purpose for speeding in the school zone and told him I realize he has the authority to make the speed limit what ever he wanted but until he changes it and posts the new signs he will do the same limit as everyone else I won’t have you endangering other peoples children …sir!
Facts, big sarge..it ain't worth it

You have to
It's best to keep in your head that you are the lowest piece of crap ever and that you deserve way worse all the time. Add a Yes Sir on the end of it, and you will be good. Maybe.
Absolutely!
Nah good brother, you right. Don’t let a loser trick you out your money and your VA disability by causing you to get a bad discharge. It ain’t a weak move, it’s strategic, once you’ve seperated and are ballin, you’ll appreciate that small sacrifice. Good info for the Soldiers bro 🫡
What the fuck
Dude, the Army is full of BS that’s why I got out. I saw people get written up for stupid shit. Just wait till you deploy. I saw a E3 who deserved a metal, but got nothing; yet some lieutenant who never left the fob got a bronze star. One thing I learned about the Army is it’s a favorites game, if your liked, you’ll have a blast if they don’t like you, life’s gonna suck. There’s no such thing as team in the Army, and the Army values and shit they shove down your throat at basic, doesn’t exist either.
You’re right it just depends on the leadership
The worst part is that I believe you haha
As a former Marine I was floored when I learned that the Army NCOs have a culture something about "fuck the private". Like what. Is that a thing? Is this for real? What the hell.
No! not at all
