can you give an update?
I’ve got the one that I pull behind. My lawn mower. Just for your channel so it’s good to meet you.
Texas PuhCon 😊
looking at purchasing a house with 14 acres and 300 pecan trees. been researching on ways to harvest that are not as costly as a mechanical tree shaker.
@@Ddrew662 honestly for 20-25k you can get setup for 300 trees. I can usually make about 200$ a tree so it’s worth it for 300 trees. 5 of 7 of my trees got destroyed by hurricane Helene as well as a very large Portion of Georgia and floridas pecans acreage. Prices might be at all time highs the next 10-15 years while new trees are brought back into production. UNLESS trump gets into office and puts large tariffs on China because China buys close to 85% of USA production.
@@oldriversfarm1609 yeah ive been looking at used equipment on facebook. This place had a couple destroyed from Helene but not more than maybe a dozen at most. How do you get $200/tree? Is that shelled pecans? If so do you take them to a company or do you bave a machine yourself? Thanks!
@@oldriversfarm1609 still trying to figure out the logistics of the whole thing such as where I would sell them
@@Ddrew662 where are you located? I usually make 200lbs a tree on a good year. Last years price was .95$ per lb. Most of my crop I have cracked for customers and charge 2-2.50$lb with a cost of .25$lb to crack. So sometimes make over 200$ a tree but sometimes I just take them to town to sell.

I say pea-con. We are in Texas and have two big pecans trees in the back yard!
I do pecan picking my self and I fill up about a 15 gallon bucket I don't know how many gallons it is but about every 2 months I fill up the bucket I'm nine years old get paid about $700
How to harvest green pecans that have not opened.
Central Virginia, I call them “pee’ cans” bc that’s what my granddad from southern Alabama called them. He’d bring us paper grocery bags full of them. Kept us busy & out of trouble 😊. I found a bunch about 5 years after he died. Great memories ❤
What is the age of those pecan tree?
@@davidpuia2564 these trees were planted in 1935
@@oldriversfarm1609 😲🙏💕 I want this type of tree for squirrel hunting
@@davidpuia2564 the newer varieties take 10-13 years to produce a nut, squirrels love them
Anyone know which method is fastest growth - seed, cutting, or nut?
The squirrels are hating you😂
Grew up in Texas but live in Kansas. I say "pacaan."
Good video. I'm here in southwest Ga. Do you spray your tees with zinc, or for scab? If so, how?
I wish I could, it would definitely improve yield. I don’t have a air blast sprayer. My trees get scab regularly. The only thing i do is trim limbs yearly and fertilize with granular fertilizer. I believe it has zinc in it
😌...he's blessed with money trees God will provide❤
This is great. Thanks for the tour. I have recently developed a pecan addiction, but I live too far north to grow proper trees. I have to settle for getting them shipped up here from Georgia so I can crack them.
By the way, from Tennessee and we say PUH-caan
Oklahoma pe-🥫
What was your yield ?? And have you harvested with harvester ?
500lbs to the acre was the yield cut with a combine
I want to plant a pecan tree this spring, I heard you need two to get nuts? Are they sexed trees or just any two? Or maybe it’s not true?
I like that picker upper thing it’s cool
Puh-can. Tennessee
Herbicide for sesame

There is a deal pin inside the hub it self to lock it in gear
Pa can😊
Good information. Could possibly use some editing.
My gramma from Georgia had a puh-can tree that my cousins would gather into a flour sack. The sack would then be tied and sewn tightly and sent by USPS to my family living in Florida. It was such a treat to shell the pecans and share some with the squirrels. Every year. Life in the 50-60s. ❤
PAH CHAN. Michigan
I’m in Texas and it’s practically sinful to say “Pee-can” here. It’s “Puc-con” or you lose your Lone Star card.
pecans in texas pronounced pe-con or puh-cons dozens of varieties in the north central area and I think smaller native hard shell have more oil more flavor than the big paper shell and if you know what yiur doin they aren't much more work to shell ,a good cracker don't know the difference lol
That's really cool looking corn! The red ears remind me of "Bloody Butcher" corn, I grew a little of that a few years ago. That ornamental corn really looks awesome, no two ears are the same! I agree, watching that flow into the combine grain tank would really look cool. Hope all is going well down your way! Thanks for the video!
Looks like you have sheared a pin in the drive mechanism
Where do you get the picker from.

Puh-kahn. Texas.
At Mt. Vernon there is a pecan tree planted by George Washington. It is almost 300 years old.
Thank you very much for sharing and comparing the two methods, blessings 💖💖🌷💕✨
I say pecon not pecan... Missouri
The new “ maybe “ farm be perfect for hay , if you have a market? Sandy land with rain you’ll probably be ok . No rain no beans not less there’s a variety that can handle it. Our beans had suffered in the sandy land this year . That’s my 2cent worth .
I think it would be great for hay but I’m not sure if I could convince them to do the tillage required to get it established
Stay clear of that land
Man, I'm glad you got a couple of those hogs. I'll bet the are really destructive, especially a group that big. I hope you don't have too much more trouble with them. Thanks for the video, hope you have a good one!
I haven’t seen any more since I posted this video fortunately! I guess we scared them off! Thanks for watching Evan!
What's your herbicide program, being a conventional hybrid?
I use full labeled rate of a group 15 herbicide. I use dual (s-metalochar). It controls 99% of all grasses, with the full rate of atrazine. Either half pre half post or full rate early post emerge and Status herbicide at v3-5 growth stage. Really the only weed I am fighting is sicklepod. Full labeled rate of Atrazine is not doing very good on it anymore.
And I always add In glyphosate with my pre emerge herbicide to take care of any weeds that have emerged.
@@oldriversfarm1609 I have had really good luck with generic calisto it works good and is dirt cheap
Good deal!!! Does sure flex recommend a plate to match the seed? Or do you have to match it up yourself? Hope the weather has been treating you well so far. It was really dry here the last half of May through the first half of June, but we've gotten some rains and it's looking a lot better here now. Thanks for the video friend!
Thanks for watching Evan! I have to match the seed myself. I try to get seed size that works good with my plates. We have been getting just enough rain at the right time this year. Hope you guys can have a good finish to the growing season!
necessity the mother of invention
The material you were spreading, I've never heard of before, but sounds like it gets the job done, which is all that matters. Is it cheaper than regular ag lime?
It’s 1/4 the price of aglime. Does a good job. Thanks for watching!
Seems like shipping will eat up all saving.
What do U think of a flail mower. I been contemplating on buying one vs a mulcher ?
I’ve never used one honestly
Kuhn are generally very good mowers, best of luck.
Thank you!
10 cutting disc's are considered 10 foot. Actually cuts 9 foot 6 inches if I remember correctly.
When they are in good condition, they work well, however they are expensive to repair. Keep all lube levels full and always bring speed up before setting mower into hay. New blades are a must for good cutting. Best of luck.
Thank you!!
Awesome! Being able to be self sufficient and not need a custom hay cutter will definitely be a good thing. I don't have any experience with the disc mowers. Heck, the only hay I do right now I cut with a bush hog with one side plate taken off. It works, but we use it more like straw so I'm not too concerned about the quality right now. We want to have livestock sometime in the future, hopefully I can get my sickle bar mower rebuilt before then. Looks like a great purchase friend! Hope you have a good one!
Hey Evan ! Hope you are doing well. I’ve used a bush hog to cut hay one time too. Did a pretty fair job
Good deal!!! I don't have any corn this year, but next time I do I plan on giving sureflex a try. Can't beat their price, especially if it yields close to what you were getting with the big name seed. Thank you for letting us know about them! How is planting going in Georgia? In central Indiana, it's hit or miss, some are planting, some are too wet and waiting to dry. Hope you have a good one friend!
Give them a try!! You won’t be disappointed! Planting season has been good here. Plenty of moisture but not too much to prevent planting. Guys are working on planting cotton currently. Still some late corn going in.
@@oldriversfarm1609 It's really dry here, and no rain in the forecast anytime soon. Most is planted, still a few guys planting soybeans. I planted my beans this past week, but I don't know if they will find enough moisture to come up. Glad you're having a good spring down your way. Hope you have a good one friend!
Really enjoy watching your video's!! Are you selling merch now?
Thank you so much for watching! No merch yet but working on it. I’ve ordered a few shirts/hats over the past few years trying different brands to see which ones I like best
