Hunt for fallow deer and Chamois in the Greenstone and Caples Valleys with Richard Pearce and Paul Hannah.
good stuff fellas, used to hunt there a few years back, looks like it still produces the goods
I bet they weren't Maori remains eather . They were Neva 1st here they just ate all who were an destroyed the place but we not aloud to tell truth in NZ an it's sad coz our history is so much more than wots said Becoz of cryn maori
Good stuff guys! I use to meat hunt that area 35yrs ago. Still looks much the same. Thanks for posting
Cheers mate. Getting quiet popular these days. I grew up in Pirinoa and we used to access the area from Yeronga Rd.
@@HamishSutherland Ah yes I know the area we use to stay in the farmers log cabin on the boundary to the park and hunt from there sometimes too. I might have to come back down one day!
Keep the vids coming just subscribed
Cheers fellas 🤙
Brilliant presentation thank you Ex kiwi in Oz
No worries mate; thank you!
I was in there a few years ago, really want to get back sometime. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome bro. Epic place eh!
Mint looking country. I’m interested in your gear. What was you best piece of kit and your worst? What would you take next time, that you didn’t take this time? Cheers.
Hey mate. Man that could be a long post but the Garmin InReach was essential but value for money was the Nature Hike Mongar 2 tent was awesome and we got heaps of rain. Gear that I wouldn't take again. The waterproof socks. We used two brands and they both only good for two or three days.
cool vid, good adventure by the looks
Cheers mate. Yep pretty epic country to explore.
awesome guys
Cheers brother; thanks for watching.
Another awesome trip lads, cheers for the great footage.
Thanks for having us to stay at the crib mate!
You guys should do the opposite and go For Less than 50m better yet donit on doc land with a bow
What’s the new shooter?
Bergara b14 hmr 300 win mag... Way too much rifle for that poor little fellow buck.
@@HamishSutherland you can never have too much rifle! I’m running a 300RUM for the heavy hitting jobs. 😀
@@sandcontour nice!
hunted in Steele Creek for a week in May, 1974. No track and no hut there in those days, fly-camping only. Bagged one fallow buck.
Awesome. Would have been nice to hunt it then with less foot traffic passing through. We had a group of people walk through while we were hunting... Paul was having a bath in the Steele Creek head basin and nearly got busted in his birthday suit 😂
what editing software do u use?
Davinci Resolve 17... It's bloody good but you need a good PC to run it.
Good luck with the challenge boys!!
Reckon this is going to be harder than we think Rogee but we will give it a good nudge!
Great to see you guys in my old stomping ground .I live south Australia and miss that place heaps .my 2 hunting mates still got here alex and pete
It's not a bad part of the world eh.
Get into it lads.... John key would be proud of that awkward handshake!
🤣 A combo of being competitive and drunk at a work do.. but the challenge is on! 🦌
Good stuff fellas!!
Cheers mate!
Yeah bush buck do a real good range of gear
Wandered up and down that river a few times, our family farm is Burnside more or less straight across the road… and if you put cold liquid in a hot camp oven ya gonna fck it
Cheers for the tip mate.. do you mean Burnside up near the Kohunui Marae where the Burnside Church is?
@@HamishSutherland yep that’s the one…
True.. Then you must be related to Jim and Marilyn Law.. small world huh!
@@HamishSutherland no, I’m Sinclair
Ahh got ya. My Dad, Mac Sutherland, sold Burnside to the Laws in the early 80's It's now part of Pallisar Ridge Station. The Sutherland's married into the Sinclairs... Guess that means we are related mate 😉
Good video mate, pleasure to meet you fellas!
Cheers Simon thanks for the intel!
Awesome area, sadly, a few too many tools that take in booze and then leave their empties.
Fantastic trip, great food and good results. Grateful to be part of it.
Was an awesome cooked breakfast you rustled up on the last day bro!
Good stuff guys hopefully that hut is still clean. Took a butt load of rubbish out of that hutt with me a few weeks back.
It's all still good mate. We only left footprints. Gets a bit of traffic though eh.
Bloody awesome adventure, nice work!!
Cheers mate. Awesome place; well worth the trip down.
good shit boys! look forward to more missions when the range works done, looks a mean spot for ruahines
Cheers mate. Yeah it's a good spot and deserves better shooting by us.. We'll nail it next time... Hopefully 😉
Cool Vid Guys! i know that needing more range time feeling
Ha ha cheers bro.. We were just starting to fix that too; then lockdown... At least you can reload at level 4 👍
@@HamishSutherland yeah man, reloading and finding new ways to pack your pack 🤦🏼♂️
Sweet vid mate. a good trip away 👍
Cheers Finn. Looking forward to going back soon now we know how the block works. Would recommend doing one with the Sika Foundation if you get a chance. 👍
This is good stuff! Can't wait for my next hunt 🔥
Chur Pikikura glad to stoke that fire!
Good stuff mate out there
Chur Gav... now just need to catch a little more 😉
Sorry team.. re-uploaded after a wee edit.
Great video, good weather too, always wondered what Steele Ck was like, have had the Lower Greenstone block a few times, mint place down there. Cheers
Cheers Tony. Definitely a mint place. Would you recommend the Lower Greenstone, hope to head back one day soon.
Nice video mate. Enjoyed the round the fire chats and debriefs. Cheers mate.
Cheers bro, those were the tame yarns 🙂.
Too many of you in your party for one area I recon. Once you have walked an area it's all scented up and not worth covering again.
Maybe? But then we almost shot one on the last night 5 minutes from camp in an area we had passed through twice each day. Sika are definitely a sneaky challenging quarry that's for sure. 👍
@@HamishSutherland True but I bet that was a young and dumb one and quite unusual behavior for Sika. White Tail on Stewart Island will live around the huts and camps of hunters and tolerate their presence but with Sika once you scent up their area they are gone.....
@@serverlan763 i disagree with what you say about sika. they definitely tolerate human activity, similar to what you said about stewart island whitetail. that is very common behaviour from sika; curious and sneaky and will not vacate the area once spooked. my 2 cents.
Awesome trip guys! Cheers for posting looking forward to the next one
Cheers Phillip. Hopefully we can put some meat in the freezer on the next one! 👍
I'm going there this week, did you stay in Mid Greenstone hut at all? Is there a way up the ridge from the hut?
Gday, hopefully this reply is not too late... We stayed at the greenstone on the way in but only stopped for smoko at the mid greenstone. From what I understand the mid greenstone is maintained by Southern Lakes Deerstalkers and you need to book through them. It looked like you could possibly get up onto the ridge on the true left by mid greenstone but it is bloody steep in parts. If you are hunting Steele Creek the easier way is to head up to the saddle at the head of the valley mount the ridge and hunt back down the ridge.
@@HamishSutherland Got back with 2 stags, Mid Greenstone hut was the best hut I've ever stayed in, only spotted 2 Chamois.
@@wjun0131 Nice work, glad it was a successful trip. Yeah the Mid Greenstone looks pretty nice from the outside; definitely more roomy than Steele Creek Hut! Did you have the Steele Creek Block or Lower Greenstone?
@@HamishSutherland I got the Steele Creek, both were shot on the true left, by the rocky slip, below the saddle, in the afternoon, spotted a huge trophy as well but too far.
@@wjun0131 I know exactly where you mean. Good work!
Awesome stuff pal
Chur Gav, got one tired but happy kid after that one!
Good stuff Hamish. look forward to hearing about it.
