Zoneless Classic Everquest Antonica Run... now in Unreal!
I now make the return journey from Freeport to Qeynos by way of the southern route across Antonica. The biggest change from the first run is that the zoneless continent has now been ported over into Unreal Engine 5!

I can't wait until the engines and ai are capable of dragging and dropping a game like everquest into something like unreal and the ai does all the necessary translations. Boom, classic everquest with unreal fidelity. I can't wait. Game developers however, are going to be fired in mass over the next decade.
this is so cool i wish i could make games in unreal. thank you for showing us this. heard in 10 years they want to make games and have them generate AI graphics that replace your frames 100% into crazy looking art work. gaming is so neat.

Wow just wow. I always wondered why not upgrade the graphics to eq and maybe be a bit easier on the mobs. It would be a dream to play!

I feel like zone borders were a safety net for noobs, eq1 without zones would be hard as heck with people choo choo training mobs.

Freeport to NRo? Isnt in Commonlands? IDK never played in a zoneless version. It looks incredible. Would have been great if you could have this for the next emulated version of the game. Id be down to play it for sure. Love it. Sub, like and comment. keep it up my friend,,,

There is something about the feel of this that brings something to life that eq2 didn't and I do not know why.

That ramp needs to be shortened it takes you close to 12 mins to scale. You went from Qeynos to the ramp in 20 think about that

The size of the karanas vs every thing else is an interesting look into the development motifs of everquest from alpha to release.
if Everquest became zoneless it would make the game a hell of a lot harder because: 1> if you aggro a mob it will chase you FOREVER, it never stops, it's like the terminator. So having no zone line to run to to escape means you HAVE to fight. 2> zone lines make the game survivable. pull too many mobs or the wrong red con and maybe you can zone out to escape and live and not lose experience. Imagine how many times in the history of EQ people have ran for a zone line for this very reason. It's probably millions of times.
on one hand if Everquest was zoneless it would be more realistic, however, having zones and specifically zone lines allowed you to 'run for your life' and get away and cheat death if you got overwhelmed or pulled too many mobs and would die unless you ran for the zone. Zones made the game survivable. Of course it also made kill boxes for people sitting there when someone ran a train of mobs into it trying to escape their own death and then the train, having lost aggro, now reacquires aggro on the closest enemy which was usually low level player characters. Another thing you did which I approve of was to make zones fit the world map as far as their shape and not just have rectangular maps which were super unrealistic. I dunno why they didn't have that from the beginning cause I I don't see why they thought they had to be so boxy and squarish shaped.

I wonder if you can use the unreal engine water, for a voxel world(?) Id like if a EQ1 "remake" would let me actually mine ores, instead of having snakes and wolves drop them..
Melee style question. Is this currently built more like a souls-like, instead of damage / delay like EQ1?
