The weather changes now. The rains have arrived and worst to come in the coming days. Off to Karatsu and the magnificent Castle. I stop at some interesting places but the rains don't stop me. I head up through Unzen-Amakusa National Park but it's white out conditions. It's part of the motorbike touring adventure.

Arrived in Tokushima and disembarked at 1.30pm and commenced the ride to cross the island. The rain had cleared and the remainder of the day was bright and sunny. The surf was up and many Japanese surfers enjoying the big swells. The hotel was amazing as was the food. The Japanese hospitality.... incredible.

Day 1. Another international motorbike tour but this time on my own. This ride was self guided. I was given a Satnav with each days ride programmed and off I went. The motorbike I rode for 14 days was a BMW F900XR and it was pretty good. Much lighter than my own and easy to handle with considerable power. Where? Watch to find out. Hope you enjoy this ride.

      @@mcjourneys1031 I saw you did that Vietnam North to South trip. It was probably much cheaper than Japan but the quality (especially hospitality) in Japan is so much more refined. For Vietnam, you have to do the Ha Giang Loop! Especially if you have an IDP and Motorcycle license, which I am sure you have. I have done the Ha Giang Loop and will be doing it again (offroad version this August) and then to Japan with RushCorp/Ninja Tours. Be safe and happy travels!

      @@mcjourneys1031 $11,500 AUD is about $7,500 USD. And this price is for 14 days of riding (i'm assuming) which works out to be about $820 AUD or $535 USD per day for the bike hire/rental, accommodation, and self-guiding SATNavigation. This is very affordable for Japan standards which is traditionally very expensive. Other bike rental places can charge about $250 USD per day just for the bike hire! Is there a part 2 or 3 to this? I am contemplating doing a solo self-guided motorcycle tour of Japan for 14 days since I'm getting old and need to do this before health and old age kicks in where in a few years I might not be physically able anymore. Plus, USD is strong against the yen right now so it makes Japan less expensive. Did Vietnam already, and half of Thailand. That leaves Laos and Cambodia. But Japan is next due to favorable exchange rates! Nice video. Very informative.

      Thanks Rod. I'm glad you enjoy. My Africa is 2020 model and is a DCT. Not having gears and a clutch to deal with is liberating because you can focus on other matters while riding. I've grown use to it and love it. I love the Africa Twin. Your right, its comfortable and on long journeys you can stand while riding to stretch. My bike has Touratech crash bars and STEDI MCX25 flood motorcycle Led driving lights which were put on by the dealer when I bought the bike. I researched and asked for the STEDI lights specifically and the dealer suggested the crash bars. The crash bars are good and protect to a point depending on how hard you hit the ground. On a trip I did in 2022 I came off 3 or 4 times, a couple of times pretty heavy and the crash protected to a point but the side fairing had to be replaced and now the crash bars are slightly out of shape not that you can see it. I learnt a lesson then and the bike has fallen once or twice since then but very gently. Hope this helps. All the best.

    • @georgetumino9652
      @georgetumino9652 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AfricaTwin-Stuff There are 3 oil breather tubes that descend down from the airbox which is situated beneath the tank. These tube are clear plastic so you can see the build up of oil over time. The idea is that you clear them when necessary by removing the end black cap. I monitored them and cleared them regularly then I noticed that there was no build up for a while and thought that unusual. In the meantime there was an excess oil leak coming from the front left bottom corner of the engine. At the same time I notice a film of oil on the other side of the bike around the air intake area of the right cylinder. This was NOT normal or good. They pulled it apart and found the problem. Inside the airbox, which is a closed system, is a valve/part/component that had warped/bent/failed because of time/age and weather conditions i.e. hot riding conditions. My bike has now done 65K and 95% of the riding has been in warm to hot climate. The part has simply failed through age. Is it normal for this to happen? I don't know. Anyway, a new part is on the way. Hope this helps.

      @@georgetumino9652- thanks for the explanation. Yep I periodically drain my hoses. Very clear what happened but don’t know if that’s a “normal” fault. I’ll keep an eye on mine.
