Made this today. Didn't have the rums you used but I had Appleton 12 and Hampden 8. I found the taste surprisingly bitter even if the campari to jamaica ratio was low.
I don’t think the 60’s “embraced Tiki” with the irony and the full-on LARP personification that people do today. Adults were still adults back then. Currently, we live in an era where middle aged and beyond like to play pretend as a “lifestyle” be it “subcultures”, gender, pretending to be pets, or whatever other manifestation of mental unbalance takes them. One can enjoy tiki without being a zealot

There was Cypress Gardens in Central Florida that has gone back to nature also.
Its now Legoland Florida. The gardens are still there at the back end of the park.

We hear that the crew from MJQ are reopening it as a new location for this ATL legendary dance club. It will be cool to simply see it in use. I know its been used as a film location a few times.

More and more Tiki establishments are adopting non alcoholic options for their menus. Exotic escapism is for everyone.

@@cruisinusa5110 Try the Royal Hawaiian in Laguna and tell em you want a booze free tiki drink. I'm sure they'll accommodate the ask. I know trader Vics and Don The beachcomber both now have well made non alcoholic drinks.

I was pleased to visit this place about 10 years ago (?) ... great to see its surviving the storm of generations! The zombie I ordered tasted like old gasoline lol but I had a great time none the less .

so weird that all tiki bartenders know how to make a true maitai and its not a secret at all. but outside of that, its a joke
He's referring to the 70's Mai Tai. And with a little research you can find it but Trader Vics 70's recipe had a special mix to it. Still does to this day. The 44 MaiTai is well known. It's the 70's one that has a little secret sauce.
I spent a day at the golden tiki bar working through the menu. Honestly my favorite memory in Vegas!!!
