Adding Apple Carplay to a Land Rover LR4
In this video I install an Apple CarPlay Interface module in my 2012 Land Rover LR4 that has the Bosch type infotainment system. I purchased the module on Amazon for about $300 and it allows automatic wireless Apple CarPlay when I turn on the vehicle, without losing the ability to access the factory menus/features.

Great job. Do you have a link or name to the kit on Amazon that you bought?
Sure thing. I mistakenly said I bought it on Amazon, but I actually bought it on eBay (found it cheaper there). Here's the exact one I bought: www.ebay.com/itm/386726878237
hi, I already disconnect 10 bolt 10 mm and the rest but I could not lift the intake manifold, any idea?
If you've got all 10 bolts out and it's still not coming off, it may just be a bit stubborn and the gaskets could be sticking to the heads. May just need to pull harder. Make sure that the wiring harness at the rear is loose and not restricting the movement of the intake manifold.
I’m gathering all the parts and tools from Atlantic British-they’re expensive but I know the parts and tools will be quality. I’m going to replace the water pump, thermostat and all coolant hoses and plastic pipes. For you military guys and gals Atlantic British was graceful enough to give me a 10% discount on my order all I had to do is ask for it in the comments section of the online order. Great video, answered some questions I had especially on torque values 👍🏼
Great video. how's the sound quality?
@@romantkachuk168 Sound quality is excellent! You still maintain the OEM audio equalizer and balance adjustment too.
U know what's funny u don't have to remove a lot of stuff that he did I did one yesterday and one today and there is an easy way to do it SECRETS good luck
I installed a reman compressor and all seemed good after pulling a vac but had issues recharging. The 1st can was forming ice on itself as i was filling with engine on and air still warm out the vents. 2nd can i did with engine off and after a few seconds oil started leaking out compressor!! So waiting on a replacement but maybe i did something wrong??
You want to keep the engine and a/c on while completing the recharge. Try placing the can in a large bowl of hot water to help increase the pressure to push the refrigerant into the system.
Is it ok to NOT replace the expansion valve? Manual says whole upper dash has to come out on my 2010 RR Sport which seems crazy
@@mascho22 Yes unless there is a problem with the expansion valve (pretty rare) there’s no need to replace it!
I bring my V8 LR4 to you and will both do it together. I'm on the east coast.😁
Another great vid. Thanks. but wish it was about a LR4 tailgate with a manual interior latch in case of lock failure. I seen other vids about this feature but you video skills and presentations are off the fahizzle(charts) :)
Thanks man! Yeah fortunately I haven't had any tailgate latch issues with my LR4. I have had a couple issues with wires breaking in the wiring loom for other systems and they have not been fun to track down and fix!
Anyone know where I can get replacement o rings for the y coolant pipe above the engine?
Great video. Did this job recently on my Range Rover Sport. I actually left the bracket in place and did a straight swap for a new Hitachi air compressor. I cut two of the air lines on the right-hand side of the compressor and used new lines and connectors when installing the new unit. When I opened up the air dryer part, it was completely clogged, and the beads were in a poor state.
Excellent work! No doubt the desiccant has a limited life, nice to replace it before it causes problems in the rest of the system/air valve blocks.
So clear and concise. Great vid. I'm a magnet to anything LR4. Most excellent camera work I've seen in long time. Thanks.
@@carlthetruthwilliams9447 Glad you like my video! LR4’s are awesome vehicles if you treat them right and keep up with maintenance. Never want to get rid of mine!
Another very helpful video. Thank you
Wow this video dropped at the perfect time. I am tackling this exact project on my 2011 LR4 tomorrow once the new compressor arrives Thank you for posting these videos
@@mullner88 Thanks for watching! Hope the video helps you tackle the job with ease!
Awesome video mate, planning to tackle one of these weekends.
Great video!
Thanks! I hope it was helpful for you.
I gotta do fronts on an 2018 for a customer of mine. Anything special to do before jacking up the front? Just concerned about the air suspension
Nope, nothing special. If you leave a door open while you jack it up and do the work the vehicle will not auto level the suspension which makes things easier.
Great job. Which parts for timing did you change? Also if a timing kit, which one or brand. Thanks
I installed new chains, tensioners, chain guides and tensioner guides. I bought the timing parts kit from Atlantic British.
So my rear drops in access height over night only when its cold with fuse in. What would you think that is?
So you're saying if the vehicle is in standard height it does not drop?
Your taking off the soft touch rubber on the switch
Yes, exactly. You can either remove the coating or deal with the aesthetic of sticky and peeling buttons. They really don't feel too much different with the coating removed.
Everyone that commented about that part being in warranty is a saint…good looks on that info….def came in clutch.
Did this work for you??
@ yea dealership replaced with no charge…even got to drive the new glc 300 amg for a day
This is great, my wife has been looking for stuff to clean my same truck like yours for few years. This is awesome video and thanks for sharing!!!
Did it work in the Back ? Mine work in the back but not in the front
I honestly never tried the rear blower, not sure if it was still functional when my front blower went dead.
Thank you that was super easy 💪🏻😎❤️
Glad the video was helpful for you!
Thanks,been struggling with the rear
Nice job on this video! I just had mine done at Mercedes under the extended warranty. Service Advisor said it would have been $2300 if not for the warranty. I’ll look the job over and make sure I have new part…if I can see it!
How did you put in that water pump?? I can’t for the life of me
It should go in more or less straight back, push from the front of the engine toward the back. Once you've got the pump flush with the block you know it's in the right position and the rear o-rings are seated properly. No tricks to it.
did this help your issue?
in my Maserati alcohol took all the black paint off the plastics and buttons. I would suggest being careful
Thanks for this information. All of the Jaguar/Land Rover buttons are the same, but your absolutely right that if one is going to attempt this on another make or style of button, proceed with caution and try the alcohol in an inconspicuous area first.
I have this error and am going to try this. Easy enough and thank you

Can you give links for all the parts
My blower works but no heat and also a clicking noise in the footwell will the swap cure it?
Hard to say. Does the clicking sound get faster as you increase the blower speed? If not, it's probably a blend door actuator that has malfunctioned and NOT the blower motor or final stage resistor.
@@evandoeseverything174 no it goes off after about 10 seconds and stops clicking, it sounds like a small box with wires going into it drivers side footwell behind the panel by the footrest you take off for the resistor
@@evandoeseverything174 stands a chance tbh, have you changed one, is it just behind the panel, mines 2007 tdv8 3.6
@@Scotty-UK I have not. You may need to remove the HVAC assembly within the dash to access the blend doors for repair. If you find out please let me know!
Can we reuse the bolts? In Denmark they are expensive
Absolutely. It's best practice to replace them but I've never had any issues reusing them. Don't sweat it!
I had been looking for a video like this for a while. I have to do this work as the labor cost to have a shop do this for me is too expensive. This video helped me to see what I will be doing. Thank you for this, I hope you can show us how to do a time chain change :)
Glad you've found the video and hope it helps you do the job. Yes, I've done the timing chains, please check out my video on the complete process!
How often should they be changed? My 2018 has 56k miles.
Every 30k miles is a typical replacement interval, but I think more like 100k miles is sufficient. The iridium tipped spark plugs in the Land Rover 3.0 and 5.0 are very robust and can last a long time!
How did yo apply the resin? you didn't show that part. Thanks
I used a fine bristle paint brush. Foam brushes work well too.
Best place to get the pads for 16 Supercharged L405? And do I need to replace sensors ?
I buy my brake pads from my local auto parts store, nothing too special. You can reuse your old pad wear sensor so long as it is still in good condition. If your pad wear warning light isn't on, the sensor is probably fine.
Can you please tell me how to change heat actuator on my Evoque 2013? Driver side (left) blows only cold air. Passengers side work normally. Tnx
Wish I could help you but I am not familiar with the Evoques.
Nice truck.. I have a 05 ..
So I assume that the buttons have a rubber-feeling coating on them originally, and that coating has deteriorated and become sticky. The isopropyl alcohol dissolves the coating. So it changes the touch and feel of the button from its original, right? Just want to confirm what I will expect before doing this trick.
You are correct, the process removes the rubberized coating on the buttons. It honestly doesn't drastically change the touch/feel of the buttons though. They are a bit smoother to the touch, but I'd certainly rather have them be extra smooth versus sticky and peeling.
hello. where did you buy oring kit?
I bought the o-ring kit off of eBay.
Can you share the link of the resistor that you purchased?
I bought a resistor from Amazon, like this one: www.amazon.com/Heater-Blower-Motor-Resistor-Final/dp/B07959RSH4/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2Z4V5K5PB0R80&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bwA9rc7k7cbWcJx-04dJnlMh4U8Z9oQoxMzSmEq82MgSSMNi5Vtcdib1cDWTlPXs6r8511ynvV51M28SxA7sLk_CswH68GpopmjZFSVwMTu_5MG9ieKu6JtROfpn8yBUEE_vukzupQaDZVtXBxJH4M3qPmO-dYct5i0jcxte-zdauuGEZ3z784Q2Ivi7bU5xX7WKlblARvFOmp1IYwSY0OAWWL1j9MNOOYkCbfTvD1Y.poHHcY4v26hMvJ1VJVO_JmDj9J2ayMI7SjWeimgUGgg&dib_tag=se&keywords=land+rover+final+stage+resistor&qid=1727217989&sprefix=land+%2Caps%2C910&sr=8-3
Im warning everyone who got this done at the dealership under warranty. They told me they changed it and thought i wouldn't check. I checked and the part has not been replaced. Im now trying to get this resolved. They did a update for the car cant read the code. The the issue will still be there harming the engine
Did you ever get and squeaking or squealing on the front brakes? I have the 6 pot brembos and find them noisy when coming to a stop.
Yes, they generate a good bit of brake dust so it helps to wash them every now and again to keep them clean. You can also try putting some anti squeal compound (or spray) behind the pads to help with squeals.
@@evandoeseverything174 good tips. How much free play should the pedal have? I have a l322 SC
