Gelli Plate Printing Texture: Watery Blooms
In this video, I show how I achieve a specific texture on my gel printing plate - watery blooms. By using very watery paint, I can encourage a unique texture in my gel pllat printing - a small blooming texture. I use these gelli prints on translucent papers in my mixed media collage art and art journals, as that paper goes almost transparent.

    When I get the first pull from a botanical print, (the sillouette) I place acetate over it. Trace ut wuth a sharpie marker and cut out with a craft knife. Labor intensive, but I don't have a Cricket.

      As far as I know, no, although I haven't tested it with other brands. What makes it work is the surface tension of the paint - if you add more water, it breaks up into this interesting patterns. I'd suggest you try it out with whatever supplies you have, and see what kind of results you get. Happy printing!

    • @JenniferAkkermans
      @JenniferAkkermans 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment. Those scissors are actually sewing scissors! Shhh! They’re not sewing scissors anymore… 😉 I do find them too big for fussy cutting though- nail scissors (or even embroidery scissors) are the best for that.

      Thanks for answering. I found an internet video with Picasso cutting his very large collage pieces with scissors even bigger than the ones you use! Must have been tailors' cutting tools. I'll go to my local quiltmaking store (yes we have one locally) to check their stock. Thnx.

    How do you clean all the buildup off the plate?

    • @JenniferAkkermans
      @JenniferAkkermans 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your question! There are a few things you can do - you can do what's called a pick up print - brayer out a thin layer of paint, put your paper on top, burnish it with your hands, and then leave it to completely dry before you pull it off (ie, overnight). Or you could clean your plate with wet wipes or baby/ mineral oil. It takes some wiping, but the dried paint does come off well. If you do it this way, I would recommend doing a quick clean up print to get the last bits of paint off your plate before you really get into making proper artwork again. Happy printing!

    • @JenniferAkkermans
      @JenniferAkkermans ปีที่แล้ว

      I seal them using a spray varnish/sealer, and then use a brush on gloss varnish on top. The trick is to use a clean soft, wide brush (Varnish only) and brush on slowly and carefully in one direction. Make sure to brush out any bubbles. When it’s dry, I do another coat, in the other direction- horizontal, if the last coat was vertical. Slowly and carefully is the key.

Beautiful; the beginning reminded me of Sam Gendel’s Satin Doll (the sax on songs like Glide Mode has a similar sedate, dreamy vibe, but this track does pick up & give a bit more of a traditional sound after the horns come in, whereas Sam Gendel’s Satin Doll is like jazz on dissociatives, but I like both sounds).
